William Comer, World Languages and Literatures faculty and Director of the Russian Flagship Program at PSU, recently received a $150K grant from the Institute of International Education to support the development of an interactive mobile-friendly website that will foster the development of of Russian language learners’ reading comprehension skills.
The Russian Flagship Program at Portland State University is an innovative undergraduate Russian language program. It permits students majoring in any discipline to achieve professional levels of proficiency in Russian by integrating their study of the language into the university’s general education program. Funded by The Language Flagship, an initiative of the National Security Education Program, PSU’s Russian Flagship Program (RFP) prepares students for exciting careers using foreign language skills in a globalized world.

Cassio de Oliveira, World Languages and Literatures faculty, wrote an annotated translation into Portuguese of Evgeny Zamyatin's seminal Russian-language essay "On Literature, Revolution, Entropy and Other Matters." The translation was included in the book Escritos de outubro: os intelectuais e a Revolução Russa (1917-1924), edited by Bruno Gomide, and published in September by Boitempo Editorial.
