Overwatch 2: Invasion: Lore Compilation - Mercy

I found Mercy's journal entries surprisingly depressing. She seems like she's really struggling to communicate with others, and that she's full of regrets and guilt. She's not taking proper care of herself, either.

On a lighter note, I guess they're really going full steam ahead on the Pharmercy, lol (I don't have a horse in either race, so it's just been funny to me to watch "Friendship ended with Gency, now Pharmercy is my best friend" play out in real time)

Also, the fact that she sees her younger self in Brigitte, but a version that "made less mistakes" 🥺

This lore has just reinforced to me the opinion that every one of these characters needs therapy STAT!!

Overwatch 2: Invasion: Lore Compilation - Pharah

Next up is Pharah!

I chuckled immediately upon opening this log, because of course it's written in shorthand and dated in military time. I also think it's interesting that, even though she tries to be brief, she ends up over-explaining things via egregious overuse of parentheses.

Also interesting that she's up at 2am saying "Need to sleep", and then already making another entry at 0600, just four hours later. Another OW agent who won't take care of her damn self 😔

Overwatch 2: Invasion: Lore Compilation - Zarya

It's interesting to see how Overwatch was portrayed differently in certain parts of the world. Zarya went into the org expecting "tyrants and bureaucrats" and lots of wastefulness. Honestly, not rly that far off for the original org lmao

Also omg ZarMei... I completely forgot that used to be a big thing! She calls Mei "sweet little rabbit" 🥺 how cute.

And the power struggle between Pharah and Zarya over the gym LOL (Pharah's entry mentions that someone messed up the gym and that it doesn't feel like "her space" anymore). I wanna see a 1v1 duel mission of them throwing down over dumbbell organization

Overwatch 2: Invasion: Lore Compilation - DVa

I made the decision to buy the PVE bundle so that I could upload all the lore and save other people from buying it, lol.

Anyway, first off is my girl DVa! Featuring the return of her mechanic, Dae-Hyun.

I love that she's such a lil shit lol. But also some deeper insight into how, even while chatting lightheartedly with friends, she's still thinking about the gwishin, and ways to keep her country safe. Poor girl never gets a rest.

PS: In the story mode, Sojourn asks what it's like in MEKA, and DVa responds "A lot of work, and not enough sleep". Sojourn says she can relate.

Someone let these girlies have a good night's sleep 😭

Overwatch 2: Invasion: Lore Compilation - Brigitte

Next is one of my personal favorite characters and fellow member of the 99th percentile height chart club, Brigitte! It's so nice to get a little taste of her character outside of just talking about Reinhardt and Torbjorn (although she still does a lot of that, lol)

Also, I LOVE her poetry - it feels so authentically beginner, without being comically bad like I thought it might be. I don't know why they made the decision with OW2 to make Brigitte a writer, but I absolutely LOVE it, and I hope they continue to expand on it.

I like the mention of her building a bigger shield, too - in the PVE missions, when she uses Rally, her shield doesn't get bigger like it does in PVP, implying timeline-wise that it's a relatively recent invention of hers.

OH AND SOMBRA ACCESSING THE FILES TO READ BRIG'S POETRY IN REFERENCE TO THAT ONE INTERACTION THEY HAVE. Sombra is Brigitte's dedicated flamer

Overwatch 2: Invasion: Lore Compilation - Bastion

I love that Bastion is getting to join Overwatch! I wasn't totally sure they'd go that route with him.

We also got confirmation after many years of fandom curiosity that Bastion goes by, or at least answers to, he/him pronouns! In the Gothenburg opening cutscene, Torb even corrects Reinhardt about it.

I like that they're showing Zarya as still having a lot of hesitation about omnics (I like that better than her just flipping her entire worldview overnight), but ultimately allowing Bastion to sit with her. Cute lil interaction c:

I also think it's interesting that Bastion must be sentient (I think? Since he was around during The Awakening, even if he was out of commission at that point?), but his way of thinking, acting, and interpreting the world is completely different from a human's. There's definitely a VERY blurry line in the Overwatch universe between the mechanical beings that are considered sentient (Bastion, Zenyatta, Ramattra, etc.) and the ones that are intelligent and have personalities, but are apparently not given the "sentient" designation (Echo, Orisa). I wonder if someday we'll get some exploration as to whether or not modern omnics/mechanical beings can ever reach the point again of becoming or being considered sentient.

Overwatch 2: Invasion: Lore Compilation - Genji

I have maybe 30 minutes on Genji out of 1695 hours on this game, so unlocking this lore was quite an undertaking 💀

I think it's sweet that Genji is still so close with Zenyatta, and that he runs everything by him. It's interesting that this arguably makes him the most knowledgeable Overwatch agent wrt Null Sector and what's going on with Ramattra.

I can't wait to see how the Zenyatta mission from the next PVE drop plays out!

Overwatch 2: Invasion: Lore Compilation - Cassidy

Yet another Overwatch character in need of therapy! There's been a lot of discussion already about this lore update, and Cassidy's never been a character I've been particularly invested in, so I don't have a whole lot to say about this one that hasn't already been said.

Man, though, the last line? That's brutal. :c Overwatch tends to get kinda cartoonish, and it makes you forget how high the stakes are in-universe.

And of course Pharah is already trying to whip Cassidy into shape, LOL. I love their dynamic and I hope we get to see more of it.

I mind that you skipped the personal reflections section, Baptiste. C'mon, man, I'm nosy!

Hoping we manage to wring some damn lore out of Baptiste at some point, lol. I know he's got himself locked down pretty tight, for understandable reasons.

Also, during the Toronto mission, Sojourn seems suspicious of him, implying he seems way more experienced than a brand-new recruit should be.

Uhh...so I kinda got so sick of doing these PVE missions that the thought of repeating them again made me wanna barf lmao. That's why I stopped for months

Overwatch 2: Invasion: Lore Compilation - Sojourn

Sojourn's lore is kinda spread out across a whole ton of different sections, so this took a bit to find it all.

As someone who's liked Sojourn ever since I read her book last year (which I highly recommend, I know a PDF is floating around somewhere), I was excited she got to have such a major role in this round of story missions. It's nice to see that at least one person from Old Overwatch turned out fairly normal 🤣 Of course, she's still totally gonna get roped into rejoining for real. I can feel it.

Also cute that Tremblay from her short is keeping in contact with her 😊

Overwatch 2: Invasion: Lore Compilation - Winston

Winston's lore drops definitely did not go in a way I expected. He seems to be chatting with three new (?) characters who refer themselves as white hat hackers, but weirdly, one is named Harold?? Like Dr. Winston?? I don't think it's him, but odd name to pick. "Dangercat" talks a little bit like Sombra, but as far as we know Sombra isn't married, lol....unless this is some big future lore drop 😆

Too bad they don't seem to be utilizing Frankie from Deadlock Rebels. Maybe there's a role for her in the story yet.

I think I speak for the entire fandom when I say "F off, United Nations" LOL. Like seriously, what are YOU guys doing to stop Null Sector?!

Also, I know one of the devs was really excited on Twitter a while back talking about Tracer's "blanket lore". I guess the big lore reveal was that Winston bought it for her. And also that she apparently uses a child-sized comforter, lol. Tbh this is a cute little extra. I'm always happy to have tidbits like this for the characters.

Overwatch 2: Invasion: Lore Compilation - Torbjörn

I think Torb has the most lore of anyone in this PVE, and yet I have the least to say about him 😆 Sorry Torb

I do like the way he writes in the letter, very to the point and with no frills to the writing style. He mustn't "get" Brigitte's desire to write poetry at all, lol.

I also think it's interesting that they decided to have him turn down rejoining Overwatch. Back in the early days of the franchise, it definitely felt like the OG Overwatch members got a disproportionate amount of focus, so it's nice that they're letting some of them take a backseat to support the new org from the sidelines.
