I played sports, specifically ice hockey. Some background for this: when I grew up, girls hockey did not allow checking (pushing someone out of the way with one's body such as the shoulder or hip) and a professional women's league in the USA was a fantasy.

I asked someone why girls can't check but boys can. I was told that girls could get hurt and be unable to have babies one day.

I was 12.

To this day that memory makes my stomach churn. There is no greater risk to girls playing a more physical game then there is them being in a car.

I saw dozens up on dozens of injuries. I had several. The most common injury?

Pulled muscles and concussion. Same as the boys.

Never once did I hear of a player being sterilized from playing hockey.

However, I'm happy to say there is now a thriving women's pro league in the US and Canada and it is quite a physical game.

legitimately my first feminist awakening as a ten year old child was realizing that girls were expected to respect “boy stuff” but boys were never expected to respect “girl stuff”

CJ is such a fucking pro so you know how hard it is to not have a start for like. Two years. Then come back in and post a 25 save in 26 shot performance and a shootout win where you don’t let in a single shot against in the shootout. How hard to is to stay up with the speed of the game. They rightfully get a lot of attention for being a wonderful and entertaining person off the ice but never forget that they’re also an elite goalie
