Don't you just love to get together with other Quilters and sewists? I do!! ✂️ Today I taught a class and we worked on aprons, domestic machine quilting, working on a bias, making an apron double sided and more! What creative energy I get from others. 📍 It is essential to our well being that we look forward to things. It may be a special class, quilt quild, retreat, conference, time with family, time alone or vacation. 😊 I'm grateful to be part of our quilty social media groups. It is sheer delight to meet you in person too. I love to meet new people and learn! 👍 So there are many events scattered throughout the year that I can look forward to. The month of February has a class taught by Laura Heine, BYBC conference, Salt Lake City Modern Quilt Guild Meeting & Quilt Con. I hope to be able to peel away to them all. It takes a lot of courage to attend events. Do you feel that way? ❤️ But most importantly I look forward to wake up every day to spend time with others, get more orders out, write blog posts, do video tutorials, write patterns, make samples & of course spend lots of time with my family. 👀 I look forward tomorrow to just making an amazing meal my family will love!! 📦 I do have 12 packages of Quilty Happy Mail to put in the mailbox tomorrow & will have to run to Riley Blake to get a few more things for orders. ❓ What simple small items and long term items may you be looking forward to? It's important to have things to look forward to. How does it make us healthier? Would love to meet all of you! Joining in the @thequiltersplanner sampler bock quilt-a-long...though at a more relaxed pace of just one block per month. This is January's block - pattern by @michellebartholomew and fabrics ("The Emperor's Garden") by @maywoodstudio. It seemed the perfect block for the fabric line; doesn't it look like the sun bursting through the clouds? Perfect for this garden quilt. Each month, I'll be adding a new block and - in December - auctioning the quilt with all proceeds going to @catholicreliefservices . Quilters Planner Day 9: Favorite pattern in the book. There are 12 gorgeous quilt patterns included in the Quilters Planner, along with the 52 weeks of quilt block patterns. 📷 There are many quilts to choose from. BUT this quilted pillow will be what I make first!!! 🥇 I need this pillow & several more to adorn our cream & gray couches in our family room!!! 🛋 We rearranged furniture. Do you do that very often? I have the best memories rearranging furniture with my mother. She would get a nagging to make something look different. My mom & I would push & pull pieces of furniture around. What I loved the most is that she would take my advice of where to put things. It made me feel so important. I'm not sure why this was our family routine but she loved to collect antiques. And fortunately I have many of her pieces. Did your family ever do this? I just remember sitting with her & we would start rearranging things then wait for my step dad to come home and admire our labors. Funny memory. What is a fond memory you have as a child that made you feel valued? 🛋 Well right now we have one gray couch and two cream couches so I need them to blend with throw pillows. I think this quarter log cabin block pillow will look amazing!!! I'd like that chair too! How about you? 📷 Just so you know the lovely @nightquilter took all the lifestyle photographs of the quilts in the planner. Isn't she talented? I don't know if you remember but one of my goals this year to build on my quilt photography skills. ❓ Well what's a fond childhood memory that made you feel important? And what's a skill you hope to enlarge this year? And was this rearranging furniture thing odd in my family? It don't do it as an adult. How is life different? Any gray, cream, black and white fabrics that you would recommend? Finished up the third block in the charity quilt...that makes it a quarter of the way done. Time flies. This block turned out...ok. As mentioned, the fabric line is one I'm having a challenge working with - and that's a good thing! It's different from what I normally work with, which makes this a learning experience. In this months block, I originally planned to play up the oranges and blacks. However, the fabric I selected for the background is a tad too busy and doesn't, well, become a background. The accent black edge pieces become a bit lost in the background; a different color would have played nicer there. I pulled all three charity blocks out for this line and looked at them side by side - they look nice, and I'm looking forward to seeing the rest of the blocks as they are made continue to tie the fabrics in the quilt together. When it comes to piecing the final quilt top, I'm going to go with an on-point design...think that would best fit these sampler blocks. Block 2, for February, is all done! This is such a unique fabric line...I'm really starting to enjoy working with it. In creating this Double Edged Star (pattern by @13spools), I really wanted to create a block focused around the black butterfly fabric. It has such a deep black background, and the butterflies appear to, well, fly! I *had* to fussy cut this one, as the larger spaces were perfect for each of those lovely butterflies. The peach flower fabric worked wonderfully for the points in the star, as they echoed the floral design in the butterfly perfectly. To complete the star look, I cut the directional striped fabrics so that the lines moved in a consistent direction across all four smaller blocks. The Quilter's Planner has 40 different ideas for free motion quilting. Today I wanted to share some free motion quilting on my ironing board that had a free motion quilted stem winding up the center of the ironing board with feathers reaching outward. ✏️ I enjoy doodling with my domestic machine or the long arm. It is amazing how you can draw with thread. What's even more mind blowing is how the thread and fabric always look better than paper and pencil. 👩🏻‍💼 I enjoy teaching people how to machine quilt and had a sweet gal over yesterday that I taught how to use my long arm and then she quilted three quilts. She left with such a big smile on her face and was proud of herself. It isn't difficult, you just need to play with it and then get it down to muscle memory. 💪 Do you feel overwhelmed by machine quilting? I think it's fun to start off with a hot pad or mini quilt. Stephanie on the Quilters Planner website has videos to start your learning process. I would like to upload some instructional videos on my blog too. What's your best advice for machine quilting? My first quilt planned on the Project Planner Page for 2017. A quilt to make for my now 15 yo son! His favorite color is royal blue. 💙 I've been on the hunt for Royal Blue fabrics for quite some time and finally have a variety that I am pleased with. ❌⭕️ I like this quilt because it has a pattern of ❌⭕️ within it to represent my love! He is so grown up and driving a car now but I still need to add to his collection a more grown up quilt. 💭 It's been in my head and I have all the fabrics in a special spot with even one block of four made. But it feels so good to have it all mapped out on this page so I don't have to do the calculations over and over in my head. 💙 I'm sure enjoying this Quilters Planner and the challenges to use it. I think I'll do more of this instead of just scheching out quilts and adding details here or there on the page. ❓ What are you planning on making soon? Do you like to plan it out? Do you mainly use books for your patterns or sketch things out from time to time with colors? Do you use EQ7? Or another software like that or organize your ideas? Can't wait to learn all about you.
