Quest fumbles with the buttons on your shirt and you giggle at the sight — here is this large man before you, focused so intensely on just a few white buttons. And failing miserably to unbutton them.

“Really? Can’t figure it out?”

“Really? Can’t figure it out?” He grins as you laugh again at his high mocking voice.

“I don’t sound like that!”

“Oh, you soooo do, angel.” He drags out his words slowly, like he always does when he’s had just a bit too much to drink. His wide hands drift over your waist and he leans in and kisses you softly, groaning when you pull away and gesture back down at your very-still-on top.

You let him tug uselessly at the buttons for a few seconds more before you bat his hands. “Here. I’ll help.”

Ignoring you, he grips the edge of each side and looks up at you, eyes bright.

“I’ll buy you a new one.”

You blink. He winks.

“You’ll — w-wait!”

listen we can be boring and just take this to mean “always been” as in post the archon quests OR we can make a bunch of headcanons instead such as:

1) they all meet up so much it feels like they’ve been doing it forever

2) these two were just fucking pretending they don’t know each other throughout the entire archon quest

3) alhaitham was being pedantic with “at the akademia” and despite being personal friends they fully separate their working selves and consider each other strangers in work matters

4) they’ve been meeting up as part of the friend group for forever but never actually talked to each other until this moment making it Extra Awkward™️

and literally so many more like the pathways this has opened up in my brain ughhh

Quest eyes the paper on the counter, curious. It looks nice. Floral. Festive. And very, very out of place among the kitchenware along the wall.

He glances around. Did you leave it for him? He can see something written on it, but doesn’t want to invade your privacy. You might have accidentally left some of your writing out again. You’ve always liked to scratch a quip or two on any paper you could find.

His phone beeps and he checks — a message from you.

Did you see it?

See what?

On the counter!

He chuckles as he looks back at the paper. Okay.

With a grunt, Quest stands from the creaky kitchen chair and steps to the counter, gently lifting the sheet into his hands. He can’t help but smile when he sees your handwriting on the page. Always makes him feel warm. The little heart you’ve drawn near his name makes him chuckle.

But then he reads. And reads. Then starts from the top. And once more. The tips of his ears redden and one hand comes up to cover his mouth, failing to hide his goofy smile.

Damn, he’s lucky.

He grabs his phone off the table.

I got it. You’re too sweet, angel.
