Mifepristone
Mifepristone was first approved in the US for termination of early pregnancies in Sept. 2000. It works by blocking the hormone Progesterone from binding to its receptors on the wall of the Uterus (womb)
Progesterone is required to maintain and continue the growth of the pregnancy. The absence of progesterone causes the breakdown of the pregnancy tissue that is attached to the Uterine wall. This in turn causes separation (detachment) of the fetus.
The modern day Abortion Pill (non-surgical) Process uses the combination of Mifepristone and Misoprostol. Using both pills has a higher success terminating pregnancies compared to Misoprostol alone or Methotrexate and Misoprostol between the 3rd and 10th weeks of pregnancy (94 to 98%; vs 85 to 96%; vs 88 to 97%).
The success rate is higher (97 to 99%) among Abortion Pill Medical Doctors and Medical Facilities with years of experience with using Misoprostol alone.

Misoprostol is only FDA approved for preventing or treating gastric ulcers in patients who have prolonged exposure to the administration of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs).
Misoprostol causes uterine (womb) contractions and is used in several areas of female reproductive health:
Induce labor
Postpartum Hemorrhage (heavy bleeding after delivery (vaginal or C-section)
Misoprostol alone is used for induction of labor to terminate pregnancies in any trimester of pregnancy. It causes passage of the fetus and all gestational tissue
Cervical Priming prior to the following:
IUD insertion – Misoprostol / Cytotec tablets are inserted inside of the vagina or placed underneath the tongue 2 to 3 hours prior to IUD insertion.
This allows minimal to no pain or discomfort when inserting the IUD through the Cervix
Incomplete Abortions – partial passage of pregnancy tissue. Fetal tissue remains inside the cavity of the uterus.
Missed Abortion- non viable fetus inside uterus longer than 5 weeks
Hysteroscopy (scope inserted through the cervix to diagnose and treat various GYN issues inside the uterus

LG launches LG Q8 2018 with stylus and military-grade safety standard

Just ahead of Samsung’s Galaxy Note 9 ‘Unpacked’ event in New York, its South Korean competitor LG has announced the LG Q8 (2018) phablet with a stylus. The phone is essentially a clone of the LG Q Stylus Plus which was launched a few months ago in the US. The LG Q8 (2018) comes with the screen-writing functionality that Samsung introduced in Galaxy Note 8 last year. With "Pop memo" users can write instantly from any screen. The options, including colouring book and GIF creator, work similar to the ones that were incorporated in the Galaxy Note 8. The phablet is priced at 539,000 won (approx Rs 33,000) in Korea and is the latest addition in the company’s ‘Q-series’ lineup. LG Q8 (2018) features and specifications: The LG Q8 (2018) comes with a built-in 'stylus pen' for conveniently taking notes on a 6.2-inch full-vision design Full HD+ display that has an 18:9 aspect ratio. There are thick bezels on the phone and a single front camera. The volume rockers are on the left edge and the power button is on the right. On the back, there is one camera module with a flash, and the fingerprint sensor is located centrally below the camera. The smartphone is offered in two colours: Aurora Black and Moroccan Blue. The phablet has been approved for military safety standard 'MIL-STD 810G' which is used by US Department of Defense and comes with an IP68 rating which makes the device water and dust resistant. LG claims that the smartphone has been tested in 14 categories including shock, vibration, high temperature, low temperature, thermal shock, and humidity and delivered a stable performance in various environments. It analyses the subject in a photograph and finds related information on the internet. There is 5MP an ultra-wide angle camera which is capable of taking a group portrait. The company has incorporated 'Hi-Fi Quad DAC' sound technology which is claimed to deliver an output close to the original sound. The DTS: X stereo sound technology adds stereophony to the content regardless of its source. The technology allows user to enjoy up to 7.1 channel sound even without a high-grade earphone. I started taking Zoloft in the summer of 2016, after a bad breakup. This magical pill was supposed to help me cope with the serious bouts of anxiety I felt when driving along I-440 in Nashville, as well as get rid of any signs of depression that I was feeling at the time. It was my first time taking medication that was prescribed (obviously I got through college inhaling as much Adderall as I could get my dirty, nail bitten hands on) and I thought, “What the hell?” I wanted to get rid of my anxiety and my depression, although I hadn’t thought that I actually suffered from either of those things until my doctor was writing my RX.
For the first week, the pill did absolutely nothing. I still felt like the bitch in the Mercedes in front of me was going to stomp on her breaks and we’d collide. I still sat in my room, reading sad stories by Sylvia Plath, tears flowing. I checked my Grindr account, looking for someone to cuddle with, just to forget about that sinking feeling I felt in my stomach late at night, whenever I was alone.
But then week two hit and the Zoloft started working. This drug was FUCKING AWESOME, I’d scream to anyone who’d listen. My brain literally hummed like a computer being turned on. I felt extremely happy at all times, even when I shouldn’t. I saw my ex with another dude and smiled. NO FUCKS GIVEN! Haha. When one of my family members checked into rehab, it bounced off of me like a toy ball. THAT’S TOO BAD, ANYWAY LET ME TELL YOU ABOUT MY DAY! I felt like a superhero, except my super power was radiating complete elation that verged on mania.
When I disclosed those intense feelings to my doctor, she recommended taking a heavy mood stabilizer that would knock me out. I told her that I didn’t want to become a zombie, that the only reason why I was acting so crazy was because I had never felt this happy before. I could handle it! What did she know?! She only went to college for 12 years!!! She left the decision up to me: I could fill the prescription if I wanted, and she highly, highly recommended it. I never did.
And so, every morning at 9 a.m. I took my medication, let the warm fuzzy feeling grow in my brain, and walked around like the sun was perpetually shining (and hey, it was Nashville in the summer time, so the majority of the time, it was.) I’m not sure if my friends could notice the change in my mood, and I didn’t care if they could. That would become the most destructive part of the prescription: I stopped caring.
One of the side effects of Zoloft is a decreased libido. I don’t know what’s wrong with my serotonin levels, but the medication had the opposite effect. In my depression, sex was one of the last things I wanted to do. I wanted to be close with someone but skip the part where we got naked. Once the medication started to work, I decided to share my most private parts with the entire world. I became a slut. Now, I was using Grindr for its intended purpose: casual sex.
In three months, I had more sexual partners than I had in my entire life. When it started, I kept my standards high, sleeping only with the people I was physically attracted to: The short guy who slept with his socks on, the bartender I had had a crush on for four years, the hot guy I met at the bar a couple weeks ago and talked about NYC with. But once I went through all the good looking ones, I lowered my standards and started hanging out with seedy men, becoming one of them myself. On Thanksgiving, I met up with a 20-year-old in a hotel at 4 in the morning. We spent an hour talking before removing our clothes. It was my last ditch attempt at staying the person I always believed I was (prudish, in control, etc.) But then in December, I gave a blow job in the bathroom of a dirty bar and to this day, I still don’t know his name. I had never been the hoe in my friend group. It was like living a double life. I hit the lowest of my personal lows when I slept with two men in one day, one random person before I went to work, and one after work, a lawyer, in his office, who I will never speak to again. The shame that spread through my body as I turned the shower to the hottest it would go was unlike anything I felt before. I felt dirty. Gross. A whore without the cash.
And suddenly my magical friend Zoloft became an enemy. It changed me into someone I didn’t recognize or want to be. I wasn’t a happy person before, and while it felt great to numb underlying issues for a couple of months, it created a slew of other issues. I started to become obsessively concerned about my health. I went to the doctors every other week to get an STD test, even though I was generally careful and showed no symptoms. I worked out every day because of the excessive energy shooting through my bloodstream. Even worse was when it ravaged my stomach (which it did frequently) and I almost shit my pants on the dance floor of a crowded gay club. That was a close call. I told my doctor I didn’t want to be numb when she first prescribed Zoloft. Because I was buzzing so hard, I didn’t think that I had become that, but when I think about that time in my life subjectively, I had. Wake up, medicate, fuck someone, work, gym, bed, repeat. Try not to shit yourself. That was the routine. Every. Single. Day.
I detached myself from that blissful but fabricated feeling in the new year, and focused on moving to New York. I stopped sleeping around and picked up a pen and started to write, using my new found ambition and lack of inhibition to write stories instead of sleeping with people. I am glad I stayed on Zoloft while I remained in Nashville, as it kept me happy even after those dark days of being a skank. But once I came to New York, I let my prescription die out and haven’t taken it since.
I thought I would experience side effects coming off the medication but I was lucky and did not. When I first decided to stop taking it, my doctor told me it was a bad idea. She warned me that I might experience prolonged zaps to my brain, almost like electric shock. While that scared the shit out of me, I never experienced that. She also thought I would become suicidial. So far, that hasn’t happened either.
I was a little more agitated than usual during the first two weeks coming off. Slow walkers were my main target. I’d shout, “HURRY THE FUCK UP” through gritted teeth and prance past them, blushing furiously from my lack of verbal control. But now, I am the happiest I’ve ever been. A lot of that is because of New York. The city, as I’m sure you’ve been told, is so energetic, I get high just walking through Union Square and seeing the hustle and bustle of tourists snapping pics of the skyline. And this is how I self-medicate now: I take myself to new places and walk around. Exploration has become my mediation.
I’m not writing this to tell you how to live your life if you’re suffering from depression and anxiety. I know plenty of people who need medicine in order to function, and have zero judgement against them. I think my doctor might’ve been too quick to start prescribing me anything, though, and didn’t really care when I informed her that I was turning into a crazy person with IBS. But the biggest lesson I learned from those months was to deal with problems as they come, instead of burying them, way the fuck down, inside myself. It’ll save a lot of time, and hopefully you won’t find yourselves on your knees on a piss-soaked bathroom floor with a dick in your mouth.

Rate of STDs Rising Across the United States
A quick look at major states and cities across the United States reveals an alarming rise in the number of major sexually transmitted infections.
Experts are concerned about the rates that have been increasing since 2013 and are calling upon healthcare providers to heighten their STD awareness campaigns.
New York City STD Rates
In New York City, numbers released by the Department of Health and Hygiene showed that chlamydia, syphilis and gonorrhea cases have been increasing from 2013 to date.
The study revealed that cases of syphilis had risen from 2,907 to 3,920 between 2013 and 2015 while gonorrhea rates went up from 13,500 to 16,913. Chlamydia cases rose from 58,098 to 62,965.
Between 2015 and 2016, syphilis, gonorrhea and chlamydia cases rose by 27%, 13% and 6% respectively.
Minnesota STD Rates
In Minnesota the Department of Health released a report revealing a worrisome increase of STDs in 2016. Chlamydia, gonorrhea and syphilis were reported to have collectively increased by 10% between 2015 and 2016.
According to the department syphilis and gonorrhea had witnessed the highest increase at 30% and 25% respectively. Chlamydia rose by 7%. In general, chlamydia cases are the highest followed by syphilis and gonorrhea at third place.
There is increased concern regarding the high number of syphilis cases reported among men having sex with men (MSM) in Minnesota. Another reason for concern is increased congenital syphilis which causes babies to be born with syphilis.
Sonoma County STD Rates
In Sonoma County, new infection rates of chlamydia, syphilis and gonorrhea have been rising since 2008. However, the spread of HIV has been declining steadily.
The number of chlamydia rose from 910 to 1,893 between 2008 and 2016. In the same period gonorrhea cases went up from 69 to 554 while syphilis cases jump from four all the way to 63.
Causes of The Rise in Numbers
There are different reasons that have been given for the rising numbers of STD across the US. Some experts blame dating and hooking apps such as Tinder and Grindr because they promote casual sex and hookup culture.
Use of these apps has made consensual sex readily available and most people are not engaging in sexual health talks before engaging in sex to establish their partner’s sexual health.
Others are blaming the popularity of HIV prevention and treatment methods such as HIV PrEP. On the other hand, Obamacare has increased access meaning that more people are getting tested thus increasing detection rates. Hence more cases are now being documented. The more people get tested the more data is collected, documented and reported.
Experts however, agree that there is a general lax in taking protection during sex seriously especially among the youths, gay and bisexual men.
Various health departments in the US have started campaigns to raise awareness about the seriousness of STD and the risk involved in risky sexual behaviour.

Hey guys, this is my last Beautiful Godzilla column. I’m moving to New York City to dedicate my life to pizza.
I’ve thought a lot about what I wanted to write here, in this space, for the very last time—something smart and meaningful and funny, of course, but all I could think about was how much I’m gonna miss this city.
So, those of you who claim your home elsewhere (even if you only lived in California for six months back when you were two years old), pick up a trusty ole beater from the Bicycle Collective, sign up for some volunteer hours while you’re there, and let me lead you through a verbal tour of Salt Lake City as a precursor to your next bike adventure. The next time someone asks you where you’re from, I hope you’ll jump up and down screaming “SLC!” after proving you’re not hiding a Mormon demon tail.
Everybody’s Salt Lake is a little different, waxing and waning as you meet new people, get a good tip on a restaurant you’ve never been to, or fall asleep on TRAX one day and end up adopted by juggalos.

Mine runs the square area between 2100 South to about 4th Ave (too lazy to ride up that hill any farther), 900 West to 900 East (ditto). The mountains sure are pretty to look at, but there’s fucking snow up there, you crazy bastards!
I felt like an outsider for a long time in this town—not ’cause I had anywhere else to call home, but because I felt a disconnect with my surroundings, especially living in the bubble that is university life (one in every four college students has an STD, FYI). That all changed the first time I hopped on a road bike (I did get saddle sores, though …). Cycling makes a city feel like it belongs to you, like you know and understand it in a way that maybe you didn’t before. I’m sure that there are other things that can contribute to a true sense of residence, like fireworks and an inbred pioneer heritage, but there’s nothing like the bicycle—the perfect machine.
Salt Lake City became mine the first Midnight Mass I ever attended, about six years ago in the middle of a dry winter day. We rode all the way out to Sugar House, bombing hills on our way back as I gripped the handlebars in silent terror, thinking I was sure to fly over them if I were to hit the smallest scar in the asphalt.
Chris Ginzton practiced his Spanish on me the whole ride, and as the adrenaline numbed my fear, I thought, “This is beautiful.” Or maybe it was, “He is beautiful … ”
As I attended more and more events, I felt my confidence grow, and not just in my cycling abilities. Critical Mass, as chaotic as it seemed at times, provided an outlet for the peaceful protester inside of me that I had been too scared to express before then, because you know that prison bitches would go apeshit over my butt—just ask my lil’ lesbo sis, Carla, who shares my “jeans” and is practically rolling in vaginas. I always looked forward to riding through the Gateway, a tall bike at my side, Zed’s boombox spitting cheesy ’90s rap, and bike bells ringing like a hundred wind chimes in a maddening gust as pedestrians gawked at us and cars honked impatiently. Those days, rides would often end at the top of the Walker Center as the sun set, with anyone we hadn’t dropped off at a bar passing around flasks of wine and whiskey, taking turns testing out the freak bikes among us. The view alone—an eyeful of historic buildings and dirty alleyways juxtaposed with contemporary architecture and modern street art, tinged by this city’s many Instagram-worthy sunsets—makes you feel like you’re doing something right.
Then there was the afternoon I came face to face—or perhaps frame to door—with my mortality. It was one of those days when the air hits your face like ice water, but the sun’s so bright it reaches under your skin to warm you from the inside out—the only appropriate outfit for that weather is one of those fluorescent green, full-body suits. Had I been wearing mine that day, perhaps things would’ve turned out a little different, but I was conveniently wearing a helmet, otherwise this column would just be a slobber smear. I hit the ground hard on my back, facing a car whose door was cracked wide open, gasping for breath as pedestrians rushed to my side. I’ve always been a careful cyclist—though perhaps a bit insane riding two years without brakes—but always aware of my surroundings, and that experience shook me even more than when I found out Santa was my parents, and they were broke. Riding hasn’t been the same since, and sometimes my back seizes up, but that motherfucker had to replace his entire windshield, and the spooked look on his face makes me believe he’ll be glancing at his side-view mirror before he gets out of his car for the rest of his life.
I’m excited and nervous about riding in NYC. I think my FBG status will go over well with the cabbies, but I’ve heard the pedestrians are a nightmare—a plague of pede-philes, so to speak.
Still, when it comes to cycling, this city will always be home, whether I see it again or not—whether, at the end of my life, I’ve spent more years in other places that aren’t here. The bicycle community here has raised me into adulthood, supported me and helped me turn a life that would’ve felt like I was holding my breath for eternity into one where I breathe real deep and make that “refreshed” sound as I breathe out. So annoying.
I’ll be cruisin’ with Bike Snob soon, and won’t be around to push you down the hill, but there are plenty of fine people in this community who can help you out. In addition to the obvious, the adventurous James Miska is out to start Salt Lake Bicycle Tours, with the mission to show residents and visitors around this city and its magical spots. “My inspiration for it came from having consistently biked around this town for the past nine years, always going to cool places, and wanting to show those cool places to cool people,” he says. You begin to develop rewarding relationships with strangers, even though most only last seconds or minutes. You have time to wave and smile as you pass another bicyclist or have a quick chat as you both wait at the traffic light. You start to feel like you have friends you haven’t even met yet.”

Laboratory diagnosis of gonorrhea, syphilis and Chlamydia trachomatis infections
Gonorrhea
Gonorrhea is caused by Neisseria gonorrhoeae. Samples are taken from the anterior portion of the male urethra and the endocervix of the uterus, or the posterior pharynx, the tonsils and the rectum in cases of orogenital or anal intercourse.
Laboratory diagnosis is based on the following.
Microscopy of a direct smear of the discharge stained with Gram stain reveals Gram-negative diplococci within polymorphonuclear leucocytes. The sensitivity of the microscopy is highest in urethral samples in men, reaching 90–95%, whereas for endocervical smears sensitivity drops to 30–50%. In asymptomatic patients sensitivity is extremely low (20%).
Culture of N. gonorrhoeae requires the use of agar enriched with blood or hemoglobin and several agents such as glucose, amino acids and antibiotics (colistin, vancomycin, nystatin, etc.), to suppress the growth of commensal neisseriae, and Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria and fungi. These selective media are modified Thayer Martin medium, New York City medium (NYC), GC-Lect medium and Martin Lews (ML) medium. Plates should be incubated at 35° to 37°C with 3–7% CO2 in a moist atmosphere for 24–48 hours. Identification of the growing colonies is based on the oxidase test and carbohydrate utilization assays. Identified colonies can be tested for antibiotic susceptibility and typing.
Enzyme immunoassays (EIAs) can be used for quick identification of gonococcal urethritis with good sensitivity and specificity. These tests lack sensitivity and specificity when used for cervical, pharyngeal and rectal samples.
Nucleic acid detection methods enable the detection of N. gonorrhoeae from clinical samples without the requirement of bacterial viability. These are the nucleic acid amplification tests (NAATs) that are used in pharyngeal and rectal samples, with greater sensitivity than cultures.
Syphilis
Syphilis is an infectious systemic illness caused by Treponema pallidum subspecies pallidum. It is sexually transmitted or acquired by passage through the placenta (congenital syphilis).
Laboratory diagnosis is based on: (a) direct examination of mucocutaneous lesions of the genitalia or lymph nodes for the detection of T. pallidum, and (b) serologic tests for the detection of non-treponemal and specific treponemal antibodies in serum and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF).
Direct examination
Treponema pallidum can be demonstrated in serous transudate from moist lesions (primary chancre, condylomata latum or lymph nodes) with dark-field microscopy; the characteristic corkscrew appearance and spiraling motion of T. pallidum differentiates it from commensal treponemas found on lesions. With dark-field microscopy it is impossible to differentiate T. pallidum from subspecies of the same family, such as T. perternue, T. endemicum and T. carateum. When looking for T. pallidum in oral lesions it should be noted that it is impossible to differentiate it from T. denticola. The direct fluorescent antibody test for T. pallidum (DFA-Tp) requires the same methods of sampling and uses fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC)-conjugated monoclonal or polyclonal antibodies.
This method is recommended for oral and rectal lesions. The sensitivity of DFA-Tp reaches 100% when lesions are recent.
Recent technology is based on conventional or real-time polymerase chain reactions (PCR and RTPCR) for detecting T. pallidum DNA, but these methods are only used by selected reference laboratories.
Serological tests
Serological tests for syphilis are subdivided into (a) non-treponemal and (b) treponemal assays. Both can be applied to serum and CSF if there is central nervous system (CNS) involvement.
All these assays are diagnostic of the stages of syphilis (except for the first 30-35 days of infection) and are useful for determining the efficacy of treatment.
The standard non-treponemal tests used today are:
VDRL (venereal disease research laboratory)
RPR (rapid plasma reagin)
USR (unheated serum reagin)
TRUST (toluidin red unheated serum test).
Non-treponemal tests use a cardiolipin-based antigen to detect antibodies against lipoidal antigens that are secreted by the destruction of the cells of the infected subject, and the cardiolipin that is secreted by the treponema. Non-treponemal tests are easy to perform in a large number of samples and are essential for determining the efficacy of treatment.
Treponemal serological tests use Nichol’s antigen to detect specific antibodies. The commercially available treponemal tests today are as follows.
1. FTA-Abs (fluorescent treponemal antibody-absorption) and the related FTA-Abs-Ds (fluorescent treponemal antibody absorption – double staining) −FITC-conjugated anti-human immunoglobulin is used to detect antibody-labeled organisms.
2. TPHA (Treponema pallidum hemagglutination assay) and the modified passive hemagglutination tests MHA-Tp (micro-hemagglutination assay for antibodies to Treponema pallidum) as well as the TPPA (Treponema pallidum agglutination test).
3. Enzyme immunoassays (EIA) for the detection of IgG and IgM antibodies.
All the treponemal tests confirm the findings of the non-treponemal methods and confirm the diagnosis of late latent syphilis. These tests are not treatment dependent and remain reactive for a lifetime despite the course of the illness.
Chlamydia infections
The genus Chlamydia includes Chlamydia trachomatis:
a. serovars A,B,B1,C, the cause of trachoma
b. serovars D–K, the agent that causes urogenital infections
c. serovars L1, L2, L3, which cause lymphogranuloma venereum.
Laboratory diagnosis is based on the detection of intracellular Chlamydia in the epithelial cells of the host with the following methods.
(1) Isolation in cell culture, which was the reference diagnostic method until 1980. Today it is the only method for confirming child abuse.
Chlamydiae are grown in the yolk sac of embryonated hen eggs and cell lines such as McCoy, BGMK, HeLa, etc. Sensitivity is dependent on the quality of the clinical samples and the preservation of the Chlamydia in a live form until they reach the laboratory (stable temperature at 4°-8°C for 24 hours).
(2) Enzyme immunoassay (EIA), which uses polyclonal antibodies to detect chlamydial lipopolysaccharide (LPS). This is the first method for testing a large number of people, such as pregnant women, sexual contacts and young adolescents.
(3) Direct cytological examination of smears using fluorescein (FITC)-conjugated monoclonal antibodies directed against OMP1. This method can be used for large groups of patients with 88% sensitivity and 98-99% specificity.
(4) Nucleic acid amplification methods (NAATs) are the most sensitive tests today and can be used for large groups of symptomatic and asymptomatic patients. NAATs that are approved for diagnostic use are:
Roche Amplicor Aptima, Gen Probe BD Probe Tec SDA Gobas TaqMan ABBOTT m 2000 BD ProbeTec
These methods have a sensitivity of between 90.3% and 97% and a specificity between 98% and 99.1%.
The diagnosis of lymphogranuloma venereum is based on in-house NAATs. The method of choice is Quadriplex RTPCR, which detects Chlamydia trachomatis serovars L1-L3 and D-K because co-infection is very often encountered.
