Vierapril 2024
Day 14 - Embarrass
It wasn’t typical for Rael to take longer to dress up than A’viloh, so he was quite surprised to find the viera still in their room. On the other hand if the Fortemps housemaids had tried to put the same amount of care into Rael’s appearance as they had into his…? Well, Rael would have murdered them all and was probably now trying to hide the bodies…
A’viloh giggled about that idea but was sure Rael had simply chased them all away with an ill-tempered look on their face. Not that A’viloh hadn’t tried that too but he had been to friendly and the maids had been persistent while he wasn’t. At least that was what he thought as he knocked on Rael’s door in his search for the viera.
“Rael? Aren’t you done yet?”
“Just a moment…”, Rael’s muffled voice answered from the other side of the door.
A moment turned into a minute, then two, then five…
“Are you alright?”, A’viloh asked seriously beginning to wonder what took Rael so long.
“No!”, they yelled and it sounded unusually distressed coming from them. “These housemaids!”, they added, as if it was a curse.
A’viloh furrowed his brow and nodded.
“Embarrassing, right? Like I can’t bath and dress myself but you think they wanted to listen to that?”
A growl sounded from the other side that sounded a bit like approval.
“We’re honorary guests after all and they were probably just told to be extra caring. It’s not their fault. I just wanted to remain polite…”
There was a conspicuous pause, that sounded as if Rael wanted to say more.
“But?”, A’viloh asked after a moment of silence.
There was a deep sigh from behind the door.
“This won’t do! A’vi you have to get me some of your clothes! They took mine away for washing and left me with nothing to wear…”
“Huh??“ Confused A’vi stared at the door. Considering how much of a fuss the maids had made until they had deemed his outfit worthy for dinner, he couldn’t believe they had just forgotten about Rael. “Nothing? To wear? You don’t mean you are-?”
“No!”, Rael hissed. “This just won’t do, alright? Get me something else, please…”
“I don’t understand…”, he said still confused, mostly by the Viera’s tone and the use of the word please.
“Are you alone?”, Rael asked shortly.
“Yes…”, he answered and then there was a long silence before Rael spoke again while audibly unlocking the door.
“If you laugh, I swear I’m going to murder you!”
Slowly the door opened a tiny bit, barely enough for A’viloh to see inside. But what he saw just made him all the more confused and he really had to pull himself together not to laugh.
“What are you wearing???”, he exclaimed but Rael just pulled him into the room and slammed the door shut. “Shhh!!!”
Rael’s face looked very disgruntled, a stark contrast to their flawless outfit. They wore a shimmering red and black dress with lots of frills and fine embroidery, that covered every piece of skin that was lower than their throat. They even wore fine gloves and elegant shoes with heels appeared below the trim of the dress as they stepped back and sat down on the canapé. It looked ridiculous!
“Why do you look like this??”, A’viloh couldn’t help but ask as much as he couldn’t help to grin a little.
“The housemaids!”, Rael cursed again. “Like you said! They insisted on helping me… bath and dress… and they must have … just assumed. They didn’t want to listen when I said I would prefer to wear my own clothes!” The Viera’s voice got a little more quiet with every word they pressed out through gritted teeth and A’vi could hear how unusually helpless Rael was.
„Uhm, fine! I‘m going to see if I can get you something from my room but look at me! I look ridiculous too, so don’t get your hopes up!“
He gestured down to his jacket. It was made from the same shimmering dark red fabric as Rael’s dress and also had lots of frills and black embroidery. He began to think that this matching look hadn’t been a coincidence…
„At least it’s not a dress!“, Rael barked.
„I see…“, A‘viloh nodded and wondered if Rael would be mad at him if he asked Haurchefant for help if he couldn’t find any other clothes in his own room. Of course they would be… „Uhm, I‘ll be back in a moment. Don’t go anywhere!“
Rael growled. „Where would I go looking like this?! Hurry up and stop grinning like this!“
A’viloh shrugged and hurried to the door. Before he closed it behind him he couldn’t resist but to bow deeply like he imagined the highborn Elezen did. „As you wish, my lady.“
Quickly he closed the door to dodge the pillow that came flying in his direction together with a furious snarl.
„A’viloh!!“
