Ralph Wolfe Cowan and the Royal Family of Monaco
Few portrait artists can boast a client list that equals Ralph Wolfe Cowan’s. In the course of his career he has been professionally involved with some of the most beautiful and powerful people in the world. A portraitist of international acclaim, Cowan’s clients have included the late Princess Grace of Monaco, First Lady Nancy Reagan, actress Susan Hayward, and Pope John Paul II, to name just a few. Cowan recently completed portraits of President and Mrs. Reagan and is currently at work on several projects of equal importance. Cowan, a Portsmouth, Virginia native, gave evidence of strong artistic direction at an early age. He always wanted to be a portrait painter. To that end, he taught himself by painting reproductions of old masters works at the Metropolitan Museum, and studied at the Art Students League of New York. While he was a parachutist with the 11th Airborne Division in the early 1950s, Cowan painted 22 generals. This work led to portraits of stage and screen celebrities —including Cowan’s first album cover, a portrait of Johnny Mathis. Cowan first painted Princess Grace in 1956 and again 25 years later.
His commissions with the royal family of Monaco led to others with President and Mrs. Marcos of the Philippines, King Hassan II of Morocco, and King Fahd and Crown Prince Abdullah of Saudi Arabia. Cowan’s extensive experience in painting royalty and world business, political and entertainment leaders has earned him the title “Royal Portrait Painter to the World.” Cowan believes that it is important to be proficient in painting the entire figure, not just the head and shoulders. Even the area around and below the feet is extremely important, says Cowan; not only does it anchor the whole painting, but it also repeats and continues the design, restating the color combination. He calls his personal painting style “romantic realism,” and he uses a combination of photos and live sittings to complete his “majestic” portraits, which are priced from $25,000. Inquiries should be directed to Ralph Cowan Studios, 220 Seminole Ave., Palm Beach, FL 33480.

All Shook Up! Elvis Presley Fans Pay Tribute to Rock ‘N’ Roll King Across the Globe
The King of Rock and Roll allegedly died of an overdose of prescription drugs, causing his heart to stop on 16 August 1977. Presley was 42 years old when he died.
Since Elvis Presley's death of a suspected heart attack in 1977, impersonations of him have been a big deal and a strong industry among fans around the world. One of the reasons why there are so many Elvis impersonators even today is the availability of costumes, wigs, and other props that help in the effort. There is a widespread joke among fans that Presley himself entered an Elvis impersonation contest and only took third place.
Check out Sputnik's photo gallery to have a look at some marvellous impersonations of the King of Rock and Roll.

Oval Office Trump Style: My Inauguration Gift
Oval Office Trump Style: My Inauguration Gift
I decided to save soon-to-be President Trump and the First Lady some time. I’ve redecorating the oval office for them, leaving them more time to build the wall, make more cutbacks to diverse art programs, public broadcasting and the like. (more…)

Previously unknown portraits of Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge and Diana, Princess of Wales hang in the home of famed portrait painter Ralph Wolfe Cowan. Cowan has been commissioned for several official portraits of Monaco’s royal family since the 1950s. (He is currently finishing up a portrait of Princess Charlene and her three-year-old twins, Princess Gabriella and Prince Jacques, which was commissioned by Cowan’s long-time friend and their father Prince Albert II of Monaco.)

In the portrait by Ralph Wolfe Cowan, what award or cross is Kate wearing? I recognize the Canadian pin but what's the other one supposed to be? I thought she didn't have any..
She does not have any Orders or Awards. He has given her the Order of the Royal Garter which she does not have - and likely never will (that is not me being mean just stating a fact there as a non royal born)
She is also wearing the Spencer tiara she has no right to wear

Digital Exercise #6 | Compare & Share Google Arts & Culture Face Match
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
A while ago I saw this app on Reddit, gave it a try and I remember it giving me absolutely no results. So my initial thought was “Well I’m not gonna have any photo to post” to my surprise, the app worked better than expected. Like Adrian Chen, I was skeptical the second time around. Given, technology has come a far way, things like this always seem to have some caveat to them and kinda work but not really. To my surprise, the pieces my selfie was matched with (for the most part) kinda looked like me! The piece that I thought was most interesting was the Elvis Presley portrait by Ralph Wolfe Cowan. This painting is done with oil on canvas and was created in 1976. This is a beautiful piece, and this is actually the first time I have ever seen it. What I think is weird/interesting is my history with Elvis Presley and how of all people it linked me to him. Believe it or not, my parents were going to actually name me Elvis when my mother was pregnant with me but decided to opt out at the last moment. I’ve always felt a connection to Elvis and his music so to be compared to a piece of him makes me happy. This piece kinda reveals more about Elvis than I recognized before and how he and I have similar facial structures. Seeing this just drew me closer to the artist. I feel like this piece reveals more about my face than I had originally recognized. One thing I never recognized was my eye and nose distance compared to his face and how drastically similar they are. Something that would be incredible would be incorporating this into maybe a video wall into museums and galleries. Going into seeing pieces would be a totally new experience, especially possibly seeing your twin in person. As someone whos not too knowledgeable on a lot of art pieces I feel like incorporating this technology so people can get involved on a personal level will help individuals get into viewing and creating art for the first time.
