But after getting no reply from Varuna for 4 days, enraged Rama decided to use his Brahmastra on Varuna. Fearing destruction, Varuna appeared before Rama and apologized, and to calm Rama, Varuna assured that he would help in the construction of a bridge across the sea. He hinted Sri Ram about the a strange curse on Nala and Nila, that could be a boon for his army. He said that a sage had cursed Nala and Nila - That the objects they would throw in the water would never sink. Hence, he urged Sri Rama to take Nala and Nila's help for building the bridge.Thus the construction of the Rama Setu began under the supervision of Nala, son of Vishwakarma, the architect of the Gods. Nala laid the foundation of the bridge with the help of the Vanara sena, headed by Nila, the Senapati of Sugriva's army. Other than the monkeys, even a small squirrel contributed to the construction of the bridge by carrying small pebbles. Such was its love towards Sri Ram. It took five days for Ram's sena to build the bridge.
