Chapters: 1/1 Fandom: Richard II - Shakespeare, Henry V - Shakespeare, Henry IV - Shakespeare, SHAKESPEARE William - Works Summary:
Richard II loves children but has been unable to have any of his own. In making substitutes of his child wife, Isabella, and Hal, son of his cousin and rival, Henry Bolingbroke, he all but guarantees he will die without an heir, and casts a long shadow over both children's futures.

#RapidAscent / #RapidDescent. Patience is everything in finding a window to summit #MountEverest. We waited to hit the sweet spot of warm and windless. It was a tough to wait. We watched teams push into dubious weather, return battered, frostbitten, and summitless, while others returned victorious. The failures justified our decisions but the successes made it more difficult to wait (despite us being happy for them). We stayed low, resting, watching the winds rake the upper #NortheastRidge. When the wind barbs on the meteogram became confused and dropped off the steady southwest flow it was time to #climb. Our window came later than expected, but I can't complain. 25 days after @brooks.entwistle arrived we were standing on the highest point on Earth! We summited 5/27/2017 and descended to #EverestABC the same day. We rested, packed, congratulated our Sherpa team and the #EverestNoFilter crew, and took off for Base Camp this morning. 12 hours ago we were at 21,000', now we're at 14,000' in the middle of #Tibet and in 12 more hours we'll be back at 29,035' - seated in an air plane! @alpenglowexpeditions #AdventureDoneRight #Everest2017 #Everest (at Mount Everest)

Richard II is the best fandom because it’s the only one with Minions.
Minions are one of the many reasons why the Richard II fandom is an excellent fandom indeed.

rapiddescent asked stfu-moffat:
Silurians can’t even be genus Homo. Homo is part of a lineage descended from ape-like ancestors, not reptiles. If there were ever a species of reptilian humanoids discovered living underground, it would be a case of what we call convergent evolution, where two totally unrelated species, who might live in totally different parts of the world, develop similar traits due to natural selection.
I know (and it would be amazing if such creatures were found). I suppose they wanted to make the human/Silurian comparison more obvious, so they chose a name that obviously reflected homo sapiens, but it's still scientifically inaccurate (I know, I know, this is a show about a time travelling alien who happens to look exactly like a white male human, but still, you can have some standards).

this ❤️❤️❤️ It's just so funny, because this is another of my 'spur of the moment' ideas and I made it with a really crappy program (before I bit the bullet and bought the PS app). But I just had to do it...look at this gorgeous little shit! Life ruining, scruffy dork in specs and too tight, silly shirts. Argh!

hey richard ii peeps
I've been saying for a while that I'd be happy to host a livestream of the RSC Richard II once the DVD came out. Well, now it is out, and I have completed my travel obligations for the foreseeable future, so I can actually do it.
A couple of conditions: it's probably best to do it on a weekend, because of normal people's schedules, and in the afternoon so it's not at a totally ungodly hour for the UK/Europe contingent. Also, I can't do it this Sunday because my socialshakespeare readthrough is in the afternoon and I have someone coming over in the evening (for RII-watching purposes, in fact) ;)
So, other than Sunday, when would be a good time for you? Assuming you still want to?

Yeah, no, I can dig him.  A Town Called Mercy was pretty much the only episode I liked from 7a, and The Vampires of Venice, the only bit I really hated was the whole forced love triangle thing, which I maintain was at Moffat's urging.

You were right! Although, I still don’t ship them. But I was all, “Hey you two, get a room!”
Well, shipping has a wide variety of connotations and I don't think it necessarily has to mean one thinks that they'd actually make a good romantic pairing -- my thoughts on Richard/Henry are here and boil down to "they are terrible for each other and that's what makes it interesting" ;)
About a year ago I gave a conference paper on the Hollow Crown RII -- this was before it had aired in the US, so most of my audience hadn't seen it. It was all about the intersection of homoeroticism and religious imagery, and watching the audience's face when I showed them this clip was ridiculously fun.
(ftr, here's the text that went with it:)
[SLIDE 13 CLIP 5: FLINT CASTLE EYESEX 00:25]
I have already discussed the extensive use of Christ imagery in both the text and performance of the deposition scene. Richard’s self-consciously priestly relinquishing of his crown and kingship [SLIDE 14] is juxtaposed with his intense exchange with Bolingbroke at the end of the scene, delivered in hushed tones and tight closeups that are nevertheless intimate enough to fit both actors in frame [SLIDE 15]. In the final moments of the production (which you’ve already seen) the scene is framed to emphasize both Richard’s martyrdom and Bolingbroke’s apparently genuine grief, only focusing on the public dimension of the scene once the camera has pulled back -- at which point we can also see him lean in to stroke Richard’s hair [SLIDE 16].

rapiddescent replied to your post:sudden thought: how do panniers work with...
Interesting question. It would depend on how big the panniers are, I suppose. Mostly they only extended a little bit past the natural hips. They were made of flexible boning- reeds or baleen- that flexed enough to maneuver somewhat in tight spaces.
I'm wondering how big my heroine would go. Probably not 'too big for my crappy stairs' big, to be fair, but they'd still provide some logistical challenges.
(she does not like her house. This is a pretty big part of who she is. She's all 'Hey, baby, now we're married and you've taken my name and all, do you want to help me tear down my old crumbling tower house and build a Neoclassical dream house?' The answer to which is always yes.)

Do it! I LOVE that movie. And not just because Tennant. Although he is the best part.
It's already begun.  I got it in Blu-ray and it looks stunning.  And frightening.  But the dialogue audio is so quiet and then the sound effects are so loud and it's super annoying
