I'm captain of the RavWave ship.

Nobody was a child when Ravage met Soundwave. He isn't her father and he isn't her son.

Just two neurodivergent people looking out for each other, loyal to the point that when they were threatened with separation, they allowed themselves to be made into a host and a cassette, despite the mutilation and loss of freedom.

I've written over half of the Ravage/Soundwave tag on AO3. (Especially now that the confused platonic found family shippers have figured out that they should use & because yes, some people actually ship them. I'm not saying their ship is confused, just that they shouldn't be using the slash for it, lol.)

ppl misunderstand me when I say "I want more [thing] in stories". I don't mean "I'm going to love every single one" I mean "I'm very picky and I want more of it in circulation so I can actually choose from a wealth of them and be discerning". I just found out that the Autobot edition of Cards against Cybertron has a white card that says:

"Soundwave fendered on circuit boosters."

I can't stop laughing.

Before I got The Trinket, I used circuit boosters on prescription. (Or not.) To stabilise.

(You try being a passive telepath with terrible shields and a stupidly enormous range on the bridge of the Nemesis. Just being in the same room with both Starscream and Megatron was enough to give me a migraine sometimes.)

I'm just saying hi! There are 14 Ravage/Soundwave fics on AO3 today. I wrote 8 of them and the others were written by 6 different people.

Before anyone says anything weird about incest shipping (for robots lol), here's the facts: G1 folks: if he's her dad that's actually gross, that means that he's made a child soldier out of her and the other cassettes. Ravage is an adult Decepticon officer and so are the other cassettes, let's give them some agency.

IDW folks: some of you like to pretend she's his parent but they met as adults in an alley and he was so messed up he forgot his name but he sure knew what hers was.

(in most canons they use he/him pronouns for Ravage, I know, but I never have and now Earthspark doesn't either.)

I’ve never had a problem with shipping ravage with people and I never saw soundwaves cassettes as his kids canonically. I’ll make a haha funny joke about it but like I don’t thinks it’s serious

Especially because rumble and frenzy are actually older than megatron in the IDW verse (if I’m remembering right. If they’re not older then they’re around Megatron’s age)

Also his cassettes are more like symbiotes I’m pretty sure

Okay. Wow. (also feel free to circulate this post to people even if they don't like me)

I didn't want to make a post like this but things have gone too far. I am still not mentioning names. If you know you know, if you don't know, ignore this post and be happy that you don't know.

Yesterday I went on a blitz of blocking people I was told had been sharing my private DMs and talking shit about me behind my back with an artist who is freaked out that I told them I wouldn't take down a reblog, and then explained that they are popular with RavWave shippers, and that I didn't know who they were until other shippers sent me their stuff, because their art does look shippy to us.

It seems that a lot of the people who are really mad about this (and you're welcome to share this one post of mine with those people, though I do not appreciate that their friends have been stalking my blog in general) think that I was trying to ARGUE with that person.

Much as their motivation in drawing the art was not to depict my OTP, my motivation in telling them that they accidentally did was not to argue with them about how they should view the relationship. It was information about why people get what is apparently the wrong idea about their art.

If I were writing or drawing something that was being misinterpreted all over creation, I would want to know why.

Then I would be armed with the knowledge to decide whether or not I wanted to do things differently in the future.

"I don't care what those people think" is a valid decision. So is "hmm, maybe she has a point." Whichever decision I made, I'd want to make it as an informed decision.

I feel a little sorry about this giant misunderstanding, but I'm absolutely disinclined to apologise because:

Their first message to me was insulting. Many people believe that it was a "polite request". But polite words can be used in a thoroughly rude and nasty way. There is no nice way to tell someone that you think they're so nasty you don't want your public posts appearing on their blog.

Saying no to requests is a thing that people are allowed to do.

Their second message to me, which evaded my block because it was sent to another account, was blatantly offensive and went into the quality of my family and relationships. I didn't respond to that because I'd have gone off.

They have their friends stalking my blog and have admitted to doing so, and have responded to venting on my part by vagueblogging in my own blogs by telling everyone that they're the person I am annoyed with and here are the receipts. Seriously, wtf?

I only know this because I'm trying to block all the assholes who are reposting my personal conversations with them, a thing i only know because a friend of mine told me so after receiving a demand they unfriend me.

This person and their friends are sending anon asks to my friends, or in one case, publicly demanding in an RP community, that people who want to interact with them unfollow me, because they will not interact with anyone who interacts with me. Go the fuck back to high school, Regina.

Don't put icing and sprinkles on a pile of shit and tell yourself you gave someone a chocolate cake. This person has never been "nice" to me.

Under the cut: why IDW Ravage would never allow herself to be handled like a pet cat, and why RavWave shippers feel the same way about the Earthspark deleted scenes, even though we know that's probably not what the showrunners meant us to think.

I have come to the conclusion that's it's just another case of antis thinking that if you can see two people in a non-platonic relationship that they think of as family, you're just nasty. Especially if the feline shaped character is being handled like a pet cat.

But the person who said "I look disrespectfully on anyone who ships this, that's just a goof and his cat" has missed the entire point of these characters' relationship. Soundwave would never treat or handle Ravage like she was a pet cat.

Anyone else who says RavWave shippers are nasty because "it's NoRMaL to handle your cat that way" is fundamentally not getting who Ravage is and how she feels about being touched.

Ravage is a sapient adult mech with a full range of sapient adult feelings, and touching her like she's an animal is a microaggression or a macroaggression, depending upon where and how you touch her. The oppression of beastformers is a big fucking thing in IDW 2005. Other beastformers also complain about constantly having to deal with unwanted and disrespectful touching. (Fortress Maximus is a known offender.)

IDW Ravage is sleeping in Megatron's bed throughout MTMTE (when she's under it, she's guarding him). She only allows him to touch her neck in front of others...because behaving like a pet cat increases the chances that people will treat her like one.

(She almost cut Nautica several times. That's another character I ship her with, because what would be funnier than her realising that this actually is a whole ass person and if she can't stop touching her, she might actually be attracted to her?)

(Note: Canonically, Ravage in IDW uses he/him, and I do know that. However, about half the fandom writes Ravage as female. I'm in that half.)

BTW, I feel exactly the same way about the Earthspark deleted scenes. Every RavWave shipper on the planet does. We've talked about it. We realise that the artists and showrunners probably intended it to be innocent on the grounds that she is a cat. But we are also people who like to write her as an adult Decepticon officer with agency and self-respect who wouldn't behave like that in front of other people unless they knew he has privileges they don't.

I am aware that half the fandom draws Ravage art that's basically cat memes. (I hate that so much. But as a proshipper, I recognise people have the right to depict characters any way they want. That doesn't mean I haven't had to vent to people like @bitegore and @miner16 to keep myself from saying something.)

Also, I strongly suggest that people who get this worked up about misinterpretations of their art or writing do not become professional creators. As a member of fandom since the 1970s, I'm kind of super extremely aware that most of what fandom does is counter to what the creator intended, and frequently that's the point.

I'm also kind of super extremely aware that if you don't have loads of people reinterpreting and remixing your work and your characters, that actually means nobody cares about your work enough to have blorbo feels about your characters.

(The side poll, which came from another blog and mentioned no names, was an irritated attempt to find out whether people really do think it's normal to cuddle your mom that way, because the second message insinuated that my mother and I must have a terrible relationship because we don't touch each other like that. I kinda wanted to know what people who were not predisposed to take my side and did not know what was going on would think of that idea, because I really do not think most people touch their mothers like that; their mothers aren't nonsapient animals and would thus consider it weird and inappropriate.)

Soundwave and Ravage look wistfully at their sparks, and then at each other. They don't know what this world will become, and they are worried about Rung, and they would be more than happy to give these sparks life in their own world--but they probably couldn't, even if they could take them home. The laws of generation here are different.

"Remember we love you, even if you never see us again," Ravage says, with shining, loving-sad optics.

"Take care of yourselves...and each other," Soundwave says; they bury them together.

Howlback's words to hers are quiet: "Remember, you have what it takes inside of you to do whatever you need to do."

Grimlock says: "Grow up strong and be happy."

In the SG version of VoS, Senator Shockwave arranged for his younger brother to marry the femme that he was mad about. Shots were fired at that conjuncture ceremony which was one of the important events leading to the war.

Also, she is not an idiot who gives away important information on social media. She uses social media to keep the Autobots absolutely running around in circles until they get caught in her web of small believable lies and big flagrant hilarious lies. She is an influencer, in more ways than one, hahahahaha.

Glit is their BABY?

I love you so.

Finished most of my idea outline for my mini-ES!Dratchet fic. I am getting more excited for.

Ratchet leaves after Glit–known conscientious objector, youngling, and Pacifist–Glit is taken into custody and treated the same. He cannot stay after that. Maimings, arresting non-combatants, using locks. Ratchet goes for a drive and doesn't return.

I am referencing to my favorite Ratchet adventures: driving first to his friend Stitches, a human he meets in one of the short stories who is a former army surgeon who helps Ratchet preform surgery on a human woman caught in a car crash and who he befriends and eventually offers a prosthetic to, place because he can't think straight and talking to him; meeting the rogue and pissed off Grit; finding Deadlock who'd disappeared during the Earth Campaign rough and bleeding after saving a human boy and his pet dog who immediately went to get the Ambulance at Stitches place; them going on their decade long jaunt around the world including Japan which Deadlock deeply enjoyed.

Ratchet is not aware of the possibility of kindling. It was deeply hidden. Deadlock is aware and formally one of Soundwave's personal agents he knew of Soundwave and Ravage's child Glit. Soundwave and Ravage are an established couple and Ravage was friends with Megatron who was also Soundwave's lover and friend at least until he left.

Ratchet is relearning anatomy, doing deep dives to find suppressed and removed coding and quickly being forced to learn on the job with his own bearing.

Deadlock makes the decision to call in a favor from Onslaught who fucked off with his Combaticons to safety of another country. He doesn't tell Ratchet why until they find Soundwave and the Cassettes licking their wounds. With them is Glit, who it turns out is much younger than Ratchet suspected. Soundwave gives Ratchet all the information he has as does Ravage, who is one of the oldest Cybertronians alive. Onslaught offers old literature and plays referencing it.

Ratchet agrees to train Glit in exchange. Ravage and Soundwave are willing to trust him and Glit wants to learn more than they can offer. He agrees.

Deadlock and he settle down for a bit, Ratchet feeling broody with a sparklet on his heart and Glit to mentor. When they hear about the release program for some Decepticons and how they are being regulated to certain strict areas they head close to their to make sure they are taken care of. They end up meeting Decepticons like the Scavengers, Reflector, Sky-Byte and his ridiculous trio, Astrotrain and Blitzwing who are starving, and Blip.

They wind up moving between the areas both official and unofficial where Decepticons settle. They also run into others, like Thundercracker who has eloped with a human woman and a dog, Skywarp and Nova Storm who hiss but reluctantly let him repair them, and the Constructicons who are hiding out in a construction company who are fully aware of their identities and are paying them while the Constructicons support smaller Decepticons who've attached themselves to them.

There is time skips and finally Hot Rod is born after seven years and 170 days after Ratchet kindles. All this time what triggers them to return is the incident with the tower and Ratchet getting a call from Optimus saying he needs him. Optimus never once reached out respecting Ratchet’s decision. The Junxies, freshly so, head off to rejoin them. Deadlock still goes by Deadlock except around Ratchet who calls him Drift.

They reunite and are introduced to sparklings, Terrans, and Ratchet says he has some news too and breaks the news about his husband and child to MegOPLita.

Damnnnn, makes sense that eould be Ratty's final straw

It had to be such an experience for the others, Ratchet leaving.

I like to think this is one of those things they don't talk about, besides maybe long nights after difficult missions or while a little bit overcharged.

If anyone out there is really doing research on the "art" of gutting pumpkins, I have two sparklings who have in fact mastered that art.

If you're talking about carving pumpkins--which is actually an art--I got nothing.

But gutting them?

Here. Soundwave pulled this off the security feed.

[Included: a video of Sparkthief and Catfish in the RavWave family kitchen, discovering that someone has piled pumpkins up in there. The two bitlets, who were already pounce-chasing each other, immediately decide to jump into a pile of pumpkins, breaking several of them open. They then start rolling around in the mess they have made, and start throwing handfuls of pumpkin guts and seeds at one another. Sparkthief then eats an entire pumpkin, and Catfish shoves part of a pumpkin into her mouth, but she spits most of it out because she thinks it's gross.]

And yes. They threw up spectacularly shortly thereafter, because we didn't know think to look at the security cam until they got sick, and we therefore did not realise that they had actually eaten pumpkins.

Pumpkins, you have all the pumpkins.

Ravage knows who to blame when anything involving Halloween stuff gets out of hand, and that is a fact. A short while after the war ended and communications between Earth and Sanctuary didn't have to be monitored, ordinary Earthlings and Sanctuarians found themselves on an interconnected dataweb courtesy of Soundwave (and Jazz and Ravage both helped).

Immediately thereafter, her subadult daugther and her best friend got Tumblr accounts and learned about "spoopy season".

Every year since then, the sparklings of Sanctuary have enjoyed trick-or-treating in the residential torus--participation by residents is optional, but those who are willing to participate put pumpkin decals on their doors. Ravage did not actually know--until now--that a pumpkin was an actual Earth fruit.

Apparently, someone has decided to turn it up this year, because someone has delivered enough pumpkins to the Ravwaves' family habsuite that they are everywhere, She even found one in the washracks... after she took Catfish and Sparkthief in there because she had found them covered in pumpkin...guts. Which they had been throwing at one another gleefully after breaking one open.

(She really needs to learn that when they're quiet it's not always good, and that there are two of them, meaning they can do the amount of mischief Improv used to do squared.)

Viridian appears in very short order and completely forgets that she's supposed to be getting yelled at because she starts to jump up and down with joy.

Silverwing, though, is more cautious.

"Lady Ravage," she says, "Viridian thinks you ordered them for us. Because we didn't order them. And you're the one who does gardens--?"

Ravage swallows whatever she was about to say. She's got two wet bitlets anyway, one under each arm.

"No. I thought one of you did it, and I was going to ask what the Pit you thought you were doing by having them dropped off here instead of the storeroom we gave you on the rec deck."

Viridian laughs. {{Come on, Mama, we're not idiots.}}

Then she steps into pumpkin guts and slides across the floor. Ravage can't drop the bitties, so she's reiieved when Silverwing catches her.

"We'll take them," Silverwing offers. "We can let people who are giving out treats put candles in them! When the Aerialbots get here...we'll make them help us carve them all."

Ravage stares at them for a moment, before she remembers that the decal participants put on their doors looks like a pumpkin with a face on it. Then she shrugs. "Sparkthief and Catfish found the ones in the kitchen. Some of those won't do you much good, but I'm absolutely fine with your taking the rest of the pumpkins elsewhere."

"We'll get Dedication and Soundblaster to help. And Wallop and Clobber and Suckerpunch probably, too," Silverwing says; Viridian's already sending comms.

"You could make Vortex help, since he always insists on trick-or-treating even though he isn't a sparkling..." Ravage suggests.

"...no," says Silverwing. "Vortex doesn't need to know about the pumpkins! If he finds out they can be smashed, we will have a mess exponentially worse than the one the babies made. Viridian! Tell Laserbeak not to tell Wildrider either!"

Silverwing grins. "You could've just let them keep playing, Tante Ravi."

Ravage sighs. "They were tracking the mess through the house. Viridian just almost fell--!" Then she scowls. "Rumble and Frenzy--"

"Rumble's not here," Frenzy says as she opens the door. "He's with Miko on Earth. Wow, pumpkins!"

"I give up," Ravage says quietly. She lies down on the couch with the bitlets, who immediately run back into the kitchen. "Just keep them in the kitchen, all right? We can just hose the floor down in there. If I find pumpkin guts on the floor of my dance practice room..."

Viridian to Family: I wonder where we can get enough candles, though....

"I'll ask the Aerialbots," says Silverwing cheerfully. "After we know how many pumpkins there are, and we've cleaned up the kitchen, or your mother will have a migraine."
