In an instant, she feels nothing like the adult human her mind is melded with and everything like the teenage Time Lord who hasn't even started attending the Academy yet. Too many thoughts are coming on at once and she doesn't know how to sort through them, so her mind goes utterly blank. “Donna, I'm—sorry. I'm so sorry.” Lin turns to the redhead, eyes glassy with panic. “I don't know what to do.”

So sorry to bother you.” Her voice seemed to be coming from a completely different person, more saccharine than genuinely cheerful. “My husband and I were just house hunting in the area and I fell a bit in love with your place. Any chance you might be selling? Oh, I'd just love a tour...”

        Lin stops short just a few steps through the front doors, realizing immediately that something's very wrong. The TARDIS looks completely different, for one—all bright lights and shining chrome. And there's a man standing at the console whose essence she recognizes, but whose face is wholly unfamiliar. A moment of stunned silence passes between them as she realizes this is not a Doctor that knows her. "I'm sorry, I was just—looking for the police." Lin pauses, trying to think of what a random human might say in this situation. "Is this thing bigger on the inside? How strange."

i do think the doctor and lin get a little codependent over time simply because they both believe they're the last of their kind. imagine being a telepathic species that communicates a lot through mind-to-mind contact and being the only one left, then finding out there's one other.

this is literally one of the biggest reasons why the doctor is so hesitant to put down the master despite the master's many many crimes. if the doctor found a time lord who's a decent person while believing they were the last one, they'd imprint on that time lord like a baby duck and so would that time lord in return. in this essay i will—

i think so much about how the doctor's regenerations really reflect their companions and then lin's regenerations kinda reflect the doctor. it's about cycles of sadness and joy it's about unity it's about two time lords who only and finally have each other in the universe along with the humans they both love so deeply.
