so much misogyny goes so unrecorded like i briefly had a crisis over my dissertation like maybe its not that deep and im being a snowflake but the thing is even though you can also always find examples of men being openly hostile and terrible a lot of the time you just look back and see a woman who didn’t progress with her career and you don’t know that its because her male bosses privately didn’t think a woman was competent or her husband made her feel guilty for working. most of the misogyny that impacts my daily life i have to stop and think... when they look back they’ll never know this was happening to us!!!

#read this article of testimonies of womens experience in academia in the present day #n realised this is literally the same as what must have been happening to my edwardian meow meows #and you can see the impacts of it but theres no record of it happening unless the woman is there to tell you herself #and so often we are struggling to even identify and name it when it happens right now #let alone in the past #i just am really grappling with the tendency to have everything be understood as complex and subtle and deep rooted #but with historical women its like well misogyny is when women were in the kitchen and if she goes outside shes an unoppressed girlboss #like the vast majority of women in history worked what now #some of it is literally well meaning too like in an effort to celebrate women or w/e #but theyre always just like well she girlbossed despite the odds but then its like #this is someone who had to be so brilliant just to get crumbs #and if she'd been a man she would probably have been a household name #but she's basically just like a novel footnote to the household name man #because we don't comprehend the extent of what was holding her back we just go well. she wasn't in the kitchen so its nice that she got to #do something:)#and not like the fact that we are basically staring at a tremendous loss for the world its like a tragic what if more than something to #celebrate
