This middle grade book was such a great nostalgic trip, exploring huge changes in childhood, from death in the family to a big move. Meet the maker!!! Hi! I'm Acorn Tops! I work with the fairies to make fairy and scented creations to enchant your world and bring magic into your everyday, from fairy doors to scented bookmarks! Acorn Tops is a handmade business born of roots and wings! My logo is a picture that was a gift from my grandmother's Sunday school teacher in the 30's and hung in every bedroom of every house she ever lived. She gave it to me and it hangs in my bedroom, too. It was the inspiration for my fairy doors, which I carve using my grandfather's carving tools. Dyrwolf is a beautifully written supernatural fantasy YA romance that is impossible to put down! Elements I pulled from Dyrwolf for the bookmark, includes the love interest, the setting, the book cover, and some of the magic that can be found inside... Scent- sage (scent tied back to love interest, Henrik) Fabric- sparkly pine (setting) Charm- wolf (wolf shifters) Button- full moon (magic and powers that center around the moon) Ribbon- sheer black (a nod to the darker colors on the cover) A little about the aromatherapy benefits of Sage... Stalin's Door is an incredible historical fiction that reads like a memoir, following three characters that offer different perspectives on the dangerous time of Russia's Great Terror. One of the things that really stuck out to me about John St. Clair's writing was the use of symbolism. A big one for me was the play on temperature, whether it was pine and tea to keep warm, the coldness of the setting, or the very important toggle that Zhenya keeps with her. The setting itself was a huge part of the story and I wanted to touch on that, as well. All of these elements went into making the scented bookmark. Scent- earl gray (along with the play on temperature, the author is a tea enthusiast) Fabric- pine (again, the play on the temperature, but also a nod to the setting) Charm- snowflake (temperature and setting) Button- star (a nod to the toggle, as seen on the cover) Ribbon- black sheer (a nod to the cover) A little about the aromatherapy benefits of Earl Gray... Much like Coffee or Chocolate, Earl Gray Tea offers a boost in energy and a "pick-me-up" for that mid-afternoon fatigue. It is great for easing stress, anxiety, and depression.
