Dries Vanthoor, René Rast, Sheldon van der Linde & Robin Frijns of BMW Team WRT during WEC’s 2024 Prologue in Qatar at Losail International Circuit (25.02.24)
Part 3 of me looking at what the UK number one songs were when racing drivers were born. This time it's the FE grid (with a lot of track sharing going on here 😂)
Andre Lotterer - (19th November 1981) - Queen & David Bowie - Under Pressure
Lucas Di Grassi - (11th August 1984) - George Michael - Careless Whisper
Rene Rast - (26th October 1986) - Nick Berry - Every Loser Wins
Sam Bird - (9th January 1987) & Edoardo Mortara (12th January 1987) - Jackie Wilson - Reet Petite
After a lifetime dedicated to the circus, Rene's parents handed over their entire legacy to their son, asking him to continue with the family's dream.
After a long trip around the country, trying to hire talents for the circus, he finds a young man demonstrating his talent in an amateur show.
Jake was an acrobat who showed immense talent and he dreamed of showing it on big stages.
Rene met the acrobat at the end of the show. He didn't have a big stage but he promised to help Jake and make him a big star and Jake, seeing the good intentions and wanting to help the old man, accepted the contract.
Hey I hope you don't mind me asking but what's the deal with Rene Rast. I've seen his name around but no clue what he's said/done
Rene is a DTM driver and was already part of FE in the past. He's a German driver and so they asked him to cover a session of Extreme E (I don't remember which one it was exactly) and man had nothing better to do than to make statements like "It's going to be embarassing for him if he loses to women" about a man driving against three women or "then maybe she has a chance as well" if the other team got a penalty. Also not naming women by their name and just calling them "xys partner" and then naming all the achievements of the women as if he needed to justify them being there while it was natural that the men were there.
In a series that advocates equality and where the sole purpose of signing a man and a woman is that.
This is not something I read somewhere, this is not something someone told me about, I was watching that session life and heard all that bullshit. He's the kind of European Male racing driver who doesn't think women could be better than men.
Nissan has announced Norman Nato and Sacha Fenestraz as their driver lineup for Formula E Season 9, and NEOM McLaren has announced René Rast as the first of their driver pair.
No word on whether Maximilian Günther and Sébastien Buemi are leaving the series or moving to seats and different teams
