Synopsis ~ Broadway star Margaret Garrett (Irene Dunne) has spent her whole life working to support her sponging relatives. When she meets carefree Dan Webster (Douglas Fairbanks Jr.), she learns how to have fun for the first time.
The film was in production at RKO Studios from December 6, 1937 until February 8, 1938.

Lucille Ball (Salina Pine) makes her 36th film since coming to Hollywood in 1933.

Irene Dunne (Margaret "Maggie" Garret) had appeared with Lucille Ball in 1935′s Roberta. Between 1931 and 1949 she was nominated for five Oscars.
Douglas Fairbanks, Jr. (Dan Brewster) also appeared with Lucille Ball in Having Wonderful Time (1938).
Alice Brady (Minerva) won an Oscar in 1938 for In Old Chicago. This is her only film with Lucille Ball.
Guy Kibbee (Dennis) also appeared with Lucille Ball in Don’t Tell The Wife (1937).
Jean Dixon (Harrison) also appeared with Lucille Ball in I’ll Love You Always (1935).
Eric Blore (Potter) appeared with Lucille Ball in Old Man Rhythm, I Dream Too Much, and Top Hat, all in 1935. He also appeared with Ball in Fancy Pants (1950).
Warren Hymer (Mike) also appeared with Lucille Ball in Kid Millions (1934).
Billy Gilbert (Café Owner) appeared with Lucille Ball in His Old Flame (1935), I Dream Too Much (1935), So and Sew (1936), and Valley of the Sun (1942).
Frank Milan (Bert Pine) makes his only appearance with Lucille Ball.
Dorothy & Estelle Steiner (Dotsy & Betsy Pine) were real-life sisters making their first and only appearance with Lucille Ball.
Phyllis Kennedy (Marie) appeared with Lucille Ball in 1937′s Stage Door. She was also Tallulah Bankhead’s maid in “The Celebrity Next Door”, a 1957 episode of the “Lucy-Desi Comedy Hour.”
Franklin Pangborn (Band Leader) appeared with Lucille Ball in Stage Door (1937), A Girl, A Guy, and a Gob (1941), and Lover Come Back (1946).
James Burke (Mac) appeared with Lucille Ball in Blood Money (1933), The Bowery (1933), and The Affairs of Annabel (1938). He was also seen on “I Love Lucy” as the owner of “The Diner” (ILL S3;E27) in 1954, and would go on to make an appearance on “The Lucy–Desi Comedy Hour” (1958) as the man who deliver Whirling Jet the racehorse to the Ricardos.
John Qualen (Oswego) appeared with Lucille Ball in The Three Musketeers (1938).
Spencer Charters (Magistrate) appeared with Lucille Ball in The Farmer and the Dell (1936) and Look Who’s Laughing (1941).

“Why do you always smile when I talk to you?” Miss Ball queries Doug [Fairbanks] between takes. "Because I’m a polite little boy,“ he replies. "You Rat” says Lucille coldly.
The film features the hit song "You Couldn't Be Cuter," written by Jerome Kern and Dorothy Fields.
The working title of this film was Joy of Loving.
According to an October 1937 news item, John Barrymore was set for the lead in the production.
It seems that the entire town of Tulare, California go on board to promote Joy of Living, with a give-away contests and all the local merchants participating.
On April 16, 1942, a tragic car accident happened outside the Tudor Theatre in New York City where the film was playing. A car plowed into a pole by a drunken driver, killing his passenger. The press flashcubes also captured the ironic marquee in the background as the police attempted to cover the body.
Ty Garnett's production budget quickly ballooned out of control, topping out at over a million dollars, an astronomical sum for films at that time. Despite the priceless talent, Joy of Living didn't have a chance at recouping its costs and was a financial failure for the studio.

Lucille Ball remembered watching the stars and comparing their styles; "Hepburn 'telegraphed,' she said - 'Well, I'm going to be funny' - whereas [Irene] Dunne always surprised, even in repeated takes of the same scene. But I watched her do takes-literally, one day there were thirty-two takes-and twenty-five must have been different. She really worked on how to do that scene. Where Kate would do it the same way every time and telegraph it every time.'"
The film enjoyed a worldwide release. Here are film posters for France (left) and Belgium, which include both the Flemish (”Levens Vreugd”) and French titles.
The film was released on DVD (Warners Archive Collection) on April 20, 2009.

Tomita Kazuhiko. Diseñador industrial y de producto.
Tomita Kazuhiko (1965, Nagasaki, Japón) se describe a sí mismo como un nómada errante entre el Este y el Oeste, y su trayectoria profesional y biográfica no hace más que confirmar esta teoría.
Como diseñador es capaz de construir nuevas marcas o de darles un nuevo giro, al aplicar su experiencia creativa en varios campos, desde el diseño gráfico hasta la arquitectura.
Tomita Kazuhiko estudió diseño industrial en la Universidad de Chiba en Japón (1989).
Posteriormente, en la década de 1990, gracias a una beca de Cassina & British Council, estudió diseño de muebles en el Royal College of Arts de Londres, donde se graduó en 1992.
Éste mismo año (1992) se mudó a la ciudad que es la meca del diseño industrial: Milán.
En 1993 diseñó la línea “Stars” de productos cerámicos en colaboración con Alessandro Mendini y Ettore Sottsass.
También en 1993 fundó el Studio 2.5-Dimensional Design (Milán) -que despu��s se convertiría en Tomitadesign– empezando a presentar sus colecciones en ferias internacionales.
En el año 2000, se convirtió en director de Arte de la compañía COVO, y en este contexto, diseñó también la COVO Shop en la ciudad de Roma.
COVO, una marca con un ADN completamente italiano y raíces internacionales, combina elegancia con simplicidad, tradición y contemporaneidad, y clasicismo con diseño vanguardista.
En 2001 creó la colección de artículos de mesa “Rim” para Rörstrand, empresa de porcelana en Kungsholmen (Estocolmo, Suecia), junto con Vico Magistretti.<
Tomita Kazuhiko fue nombrado director de Arte de NUSSHA París en 2004, y desde entonces ha trabajado con varios fabricantes más, incluida por ejemplo, la empresa italiana Moroso.
Las creaciones de Tomita Kazuhiko son lúdicas, pero a la vez prácticas.
Con una mirada cuidadosa y sensible que combina armoniosamente forma y contenido promueve, sin sacrificar nada a la funcionalidad, la investigación y la experimentación que va desde el uso hábil de los materiales hasta la selección previsora de productores internacionales.
Su universo se encuadra dentro del arte y del estilo de vida tradicional japonés a la vez que convive con el concepto europeo de lo moderno. Sus ideas asumen el mismo objetivo, hacer artículos destinados a un uso global y prolongado que dure toda la vida.
Un factor de enlace entre todas sus creaciones es la simplicidad, pues para él éste es un factor muy importante, pero no la simplicidad llevada al minimalismo entendido como lo hacía la Bauhaus.
Para Tomita Kazuhiko la reducción a lo que es importante y esencial es una característica del shintoismo japonés, donde según su teoría los objetos inanimados también contienen energía espiritual.
Así por ejemplo, la colección de mesas de sobremesa”UkiYo” (2006-2007) para Moroso, realizadas en resina de poliéster co-moldeada, están decoradas con los patrones utilizados en los kimonos tradicionales e inspirados en Ukiyo, un movimiento cultural japonés del siglo XVIII.
Relacionado con el realismo sintoísta, que establece que nada puede permanecer sin cambios durante mucho tiempo, la filosofía de este movimiento (Ukiyo) vive cada momento al máximo como una forma, curiosamente, de alcanzar la vida eterna.
Desde esta perspectiva, la floración se convierte en el período anual más alegre y radiante, donde se extiende por todas partes la máxima cantidad de energía. Sin embargo, nadie puede decir si la flor recién florecida seguirá viva un momento después.
Las tapas o sobres de estas mesitas -con finísimas patas de acero tubular acabado en polvo RAL 3003 rojo brillante- se pueden invertir y utilizar como bandejas.
Su trabajo se ha exhibido a nivel mundial, en ciudades como Tokio (exposición individual “2.5-Dimensional Design“, Ozone Gallery, 1999); en Jerusalén (“FUSION: Arquitectura + Diseño en Japón“, 2002, Museo de Israel); Nueva York (Exposición “COVO”, 2002, galería Totem SOHO) o en Milán (“RE-FUSION”, 2003).
También sus productos han entrado en los museos para quedarse, como los productos que diseñó para la marca Essential, que se han integrado en la colección permanente del Museo de Arte Moderno de Nueva York.
Tomita Kazuhiko es profesor visitante en Diseño Industrial en la Universidad de Roma.
Y ha ganado numerosos premios internacionales a lo largo de su carrera, como por ejemplo el primer premio en el concurso “El futuro arquitectónico del acero inoxidable” (Londres, 1991) por Sir Noman Foster.

O Same Store Sales (SSS) do Grupo Dimed alcançou 6,7% no 1t20, apresentando retração de 3,9 pontos percentuais da comparação com o 1t19.
O crescimento das lojas maduras alcançou 4,9% no 1t20, apresentando retração de 2,7 pontos percentuais da comparação com o 1t19.
Nos últimos 12 meses, foram inauguradas 41 lojas, visando a um crescimento sustentável e equilibrado, com a utilização de recursos gerados pelo próprio negócio.
A companhia fechou o trimestre com 450 lojas, apresentando crescimento de 6,9% na comparação com o 1t19.
No 1t20, o percentual de lojas maduras alcançou 81,3%, e 18,7% em processo de maturação.
No 1t20, as vendas de OTC, apresentaram um crescimento de 21,8% na comparação com o 1T19, de acordo com a companhia, a antecipação de compras antes do início das restrições de circulação, favorecem o resultado.

“The First Annual Television Academy Hall of Fame Awards”

This award's mission is to recognize "persons who have made outstanding contributions in the arts, sciences or management of television, based upon either cumulative contributions and achievements or a singular contribution or achievement."
The honorees received glass statuettes in the form of two ballet dancers created by sculptor and painter Pascal called “Discipline of Creation.” The trophies were tall and difficult to handle so they were not presented during the course of the ceremony itself.
With that in mind, since 1988, inductees have received a crystal television screen atop a cast-bronze base designed by art director Romain Johnston.
Being the first such telecast, the rating were poor. The special lost not only its time slot but the entire evening with just a 16 share and a 10 rating. ABC's TV remake of A Streetcar Named Desire won the night with a 39 share and a 23.1 rating.
Just as Carol Burnett introduces Lucille Ball in this first ceremony, in 1985 the roles were reversed when Lucy introduced Burnett for the honor.
Of the other participants in this initial outing, Steve Allen was honored in 1986, Eric Sevareid in 1987, Barbara Walters in 1989, Jean Stapleton in 2002, Bea Arthur in 2008, and Sherman Hemsley in 2012.
Although Lucie Arnaz is announced in the opening credits, she did not appear in the telecast due to a prior obligation.

The segment begins with a clip of “Lucy Goes To the Hospital” (ILL S2;E16) which starts with Lucy announcing: “Ricky. This is it!”
After the clip, Desi Arnaz Jr. enters and explains how his birth coincided with the birth of Little Ricky. Desi says that his sister Lucie couldn't attend because she is appearing on stage back East in The Guardsman. The show was produced at New Jersey's Paper Mill Playhouse also starring Lucie's husband Laurence Luckinbill. It was hoped that the show would transfer to Broadway, but this did not happen.
Desi Jr. introduces Carol Burnett.
A cut-away to Lucille Ball in the audience reveals that she is holding back tears at her son's tribute. Gary Morton sits beside her. Carol tells of how Lucy came to the second night of Once Upon A Mattress on Broadway.
A video tribute tracks Lucy's childhood in Jamestown to her unlikely breakthrough television series “I Love Lucy.” Clips are from “The Audition” (Lucy as The Professor), “Lucy Does a Television Commercial” (“It's so tasty, too!”), “Hollywood at Last!” (at the Brown Derby), and “Job Switching” (“Speed it up!”).
Lucy: “We all know we never do anything alone.”
Lucille Ball gets a standing ovation both walking to the podium and then again back to her seat. Cuts to the audience, show stars like Ann Jillian dabbing their eyes at Lucy's tearful acceptance speech.
Lucy Connection: Lucy and Carol Burnett were each others biggest fans. They alternately appeared on each others television shows, as well as numerous specials and awards shows.
Paddy Chayevsky (posthumous), hosted by Bob Fosse
A video interview with Chayevsky talks about his producing television dramas like “Marty”.
Eddie Albert and Peter Falk pay tribute to Chayevsky by acting out moments from his most notable work including Marty, The Tenth Man, and Network.
Susie Chayevsky could not be there to accept the award for her husband, so Fosse reads a message from her.
Chairman of the Academy John H. Mitchell takes the stage to talk about the Hall of Fame.
Lucy Connection: The following year Fosse and Ball were both part of “Night of 100 Stars II.”
Norman Lear, hosted by Beatrice Arthur
In a pre-taped segment, Jean Stapleton talks about the craft of acting which leads to a montage of scenes from “All in the Family” starring Carroll O'Connor, Rob Reiner, Sally Struthers, and Stapleton.
Bea Arthur talks about Norman Lear and quotes Paddy Chayevsky talking about Lear. Arthur starred in “Maude” a spin-off of “All in the Family.”
A video segment traces Lear's personal and career history. It includes clips from “Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman,” “All in the Family,” “Fernwood Tonight,” “One Day at a Time,” “Maude,” “Good Times,” and “The Jeffersons.”

Vintage footage of "I Love Lucy", including snippets from the pilot, and other moments from the careers of the honorees were shown at the ceremony held at the Regent Beverly Wilshire Hotel.
"I Love Lucy" producer Jess Oppenheimer's widow Estelle and original writers Madelyn Pugh-Davis and Bob Carroll Jr. accepted the award for the CBS show. It was the first show ever inducted into the Hall of Fame.
In 1994, Disney's Hollywood Studios in Orlando, featured an outdoor exhibition of statues and plaques dedicated to Hall of Fame winners. The exhibit was removed in 2016 and the statues and busts returned to the Academy.
