As alluded a couple of days ago, with some regret I am pulling out of #richmondhalfmarathon2019 this weekend. After battling a sinus infection for 10 days and missing a week of training, I am now just working my way back. @usatfclubxc #usatfxcnationals remains my target race for the season and running a #halfmarathon at less than my best right now just doesn't make any sense from a fitness and recovery standpoint. I still have a hotel booked in #rva though, and am planning to go down, get my own Saturday morning run in and support my many friends who are doing the #richmondmarathon, half and 8k. Five weeks, three marathons, and three PRs! • The first was my own 12 1/2 minute PR in Chicago (3:44:45). It was an unbelievable race and a day the everything clicked for me! Despite it being unfavorable race conditions, it was my day and I raced smart, staying at the edge of control throughout the entire race. • Followed two weeks later with a 14 minute PR (4:09:19) for Jess during a very hot, hard Marine Corps Marathon. Jess was amazing at sticking with me and going with what came as we ticked off the miles! It was thrilling to help someone achieve their goal! • And then yesterday, three weeks pst Marine Corps and five weeks post PR, I nervously took to the streets of Richmond with @naomi_gal to help her run the race she knew she had in her! It was a “bonus” race for both of us. We defined our A, B, C, and “if nothing else” (to have fun!) goals and she tried everything new - intervals, on a cold day, wearing a sparkle skirt - and we hit our “A” goal! We ran a 3:50:30, a second best time for me (and a second best half marathon at the split) and a 14 minute PR for Naomi. • I honestly never thought I’d have such an incredible race season after the year I’ve had. It’s been hard to stay a motivated during all of the transitions, but maybe I’ve run so well because running is the constant that’s kept me grounded. Here’s to recovery for the next month! Richmond Marathon Expo What a day! Good to talk with several of the vendors, some I'm familiar with and others as new acquaintances. Enjoyed chatting with the Ragnar representative. Entered some contests and met some of my social media connections in person. That's always special when you get to make that bond in the real world. And 2019 just keeps getting better, week after week! After setting a quest to meet Bart Yasso, the "mayor of running", who was Runner's World's Chief Running Officer (before retirement), I finally met him today! Due to all kinds of ridiculous challenges, I kept missing him at previous races. Things happen when they're supposed to. We got to chat for about 15 minutes before the other indians started circling our powwow. All good. Even skinny distance guys can have muscles. Good workout day after a few hellish work days when I couldn’t train. But as my coaches at @mcmillanrunning say, life happens, don’t stress about those times, just get back in the saddle as soon as you can.
