Zig Zag was an awesome low-budget children's show that few outside British Columbia ever saw and even less remember.

I loved it when I was a child.

It aired every Saturday morning on BCTV.

Valri Bromfield told me recently that it was largely improvised.

She is quite hilarious on Zig Zag.

Bromfield got her start with Dan Aykroyd in Ottawa in the late 1960s when the two of them were a comedy team.

The 'Burbs (1989, Joe Dante) The brainchild of screenwriter Dana Olsen, who, remembering neighbors from his youth who kept to themselves, neglected the upkeep on their property, and we're seldom seen, though that a good basis for some black humor. He convinced Universal's executives of that, and Joe Dante quickly signed on as director. They were all correct... The premise made a great horror-comedy, and is a favorite in the Unimonster's Crypt. With a stellar cast, headlined by Tom Hanks, Carrie Fisher, Bruce Dern, and Henry Gibson, this is the story of one little cul-de-sac, in one subdivision, of one absolutely normal, sleepy little suburban community. Ray Peterson, Mark Rumsfield, and Art Weingartner (Hanks, Dern and Rick Ducommon) are neighbors and friends. While each have their idiosyncrasies, they're all fairly normal... They walk their dogs, mow their lawns, wave to each other as they pass by... All the social conventions that people adopt in order to function in polite society. However, there's a new family that's moved onto Mayfield Place... A family that's anything but normal: the Klopeks. Ray, on a week's vacation, intends to just stay home, take it easy, take care of some projects around the house. Art, however, talks him into looking into the Klopeks, and the strange sounds and flashing lights that emanate from their house at odd hours. Soon the three friends are enmeshed in a mystery that seems to have claimed a elderly neighbor as it's first victim. As I've noted before, Tom Hanks was a superb comedic actor, before he decided to concentrate on dramatic roles and winning Oscars, and in this film his comedic genius is on full display. This is one of my favorite movies, one that never fails to lift my spirits.
