Life Turned Her That Way

Ike Masterlist
Series Masterlist
Warning: slight angst, etc.
Summary: Ike confronts you with the truth. Inspire by - Ricky Van Shelton's - Life Turned Her That Way.
A/N: Based off; Would you hold it against me universe. Can be read as stand-alone.
Tumblr media
You were nervous reck whilst having lunch with your daughter; (Ben had insisted you two enjoy the rest of the hotel while he continued playing poker), it wasn't that you weren't having a good time. The hotel was beautiful, and you would have fully enjoyed your time if weren't for the fact that you were doing your best to try and avoid its owner.
You knew that it was inevitable that Ike would come across Emma with Ben being his business partner, you just didn't expect it to be so soon.
So, here you were nervously scanning the hotel restaurant every second while trying your best to enjoy lunch with your daughter. Your beautiful, innocent child; you silently smiled while listening to her chattering about what a great time she's had so far today. She had really blossomed from the meek little mouse she had been before you married Ben. If there was one thing that you were grateful to Ben for; it was bringing the sparkle back into your little girl's eyes. You had witnessed the emptiness in her eyes in the past whenever she would ask about her father, and it had broken your heart each time to explain the situation to her. But once 'Papa Ben' had come into her life, she had become a totally different child; there was nothing but happiness and laughter in her eyes now. Ben was her father now and no one, not even her real father was going to take that away from her and you were going to make damn sure about it.
You had started to relax a bit and was finally enjoying the moment with your daughter, then it all changed when He walked into the restaurant.
"C'mon Sweetie... it's time to go back to Papa" you hastily place some tip money onto the table in attempt to exit the restaurant before He notices you. You keep your back toward him not to be noticed, unfortunately it was useless when hearing his voice address you from behind.
"Y/N."
*
If she seems cold and bitter Then I beg of you Just stop and consider All she's gone through
Don't be quick to condemn her For things she might say Just remember Life turned her that way
Internally cringing; you inhale deeply to compose yourself, making sure to keep Emma behind as you turn to face him.
"Ike... if you'll excuse us, we were just leaving" you cordially respond, moving to walk around him but he grabs hold of your arm.
"We need to talk..."
"We have nothing to talk about" you calmly state, yet the grip you had on your daughter's hand stated otherwise.
"Really...?" Ike scoffs, staring down at your daughter with a sarcastic smirk as she shyly peeked at him from behind you.
"I think you know exactly what we need to talk about."
"I don't know what you're talking about..." you stammer at the possibility of him knowing the truth.
Squinting his eyes, Ike flashes you a toothy grin as he shakes his head while softly chuckling.
"I know she's mine."
"W-What...?" you find yourself spluttering, nervously looking about to see if anyone heard him. Not wanting your daughter to hear what was being said, you turn toward her then.
"Em, Mommy's just speaking to this gentleman quickly... why don't go back to the table and I'll be with you in a second, ok baby?"
"Ok, Mama..." Emma cutely nods in response, giving Ike a silent once-over stare before going to sit.
"She's beautiful..." Ike remarks staring after her with a faint smirk.
"Reminds me of Lo when she was her age, matter of fact looks just like her at that age."
"I don't know where you got that idea..." your hackles begin to rise at threat to your happy family as you softly snarl out at him.
"But you are not her father."
Ike snickers, flashing a little smirk as he bites down onto his lower lip whilst narrowing his eyes at you and tipping down to whisper in your ear.
"Ben told me..."
You felt your heart instantly drop to your feet as you stared wide-eyed in fear at him.
"W-What do you mean, Ben told you? How could he know...?"
Noticing the sheer look of terror in your eyes, Ike knowing Ben's true nature; silently curses himself for it as he gently strokes your arm to sooth your fear.
"It's ok, Sweetheart, calm down... he told me that Emma's father was your ex-fiancé, that left you two weeks before the wedding. He doesn't know I was the Ex."
You exhale heavily in relief, scowling instantly at the term of endearment and ripping your arm from out of his hold.
"Don't call me that."
"I've always called you that" Ike scoffs at how hostel you were behaving.
"That was before you left me for another woman two weeks before our wedding" you hiss in response.
"Lis-" Ike tries to speak but is interrupted by Stevie walking up.
"Dad, here ya are..." Stevie states, doing a doubletake then when recognizing you.
"Y/N...? Wow...how are ya?" he then goes to hug you, but you bring a hand up to stop him.
"Hi Stevie..." you calmly turn to Ike then.
"Stay the hell away from my family."
You turn in your daughter's direction then.
"C'mon Em, were leaving... Goodbye Stevie" you politely nod at him as you grab your daughter's hand and leave.
"What the hell crawled up her ass?" Stevie scoffs in remark at your retreating figure.
"A lot... and it's all my fault" Ike states, staring yearningly at the sight of his daughter leaving.
"Huh?" Stevie's brows scrunch up in confusion.
"Not here..." Ike grumble, tilting his head for Stevie to follow him.
*
She's been walked on And stepped on So many times And I hate to admit it But the last footprint's mine
She was crying when I met her She cries harder today So don't blame her Life turned her that way
"So, what's deal?" Stevie enquires once they entered Ike's office.
Throwing himself into the office chair with a heavy sigh, Ike tilts his head back, pressing the heel of his palms into his eyes.
"She's Ben's new wife."
"Who...?" Stevie frowns in confusing, his eyes widening instantly in realization.
"Y/N...? Y/N's Ben Diamond's wife?"
Settling his head back, Ike has a hunted look in his eyes as he stares at Stevie.
"Yes."
"What? When? How?" Stevie splutters in shocked confusion.
"Believe me, I was just as shocked as you when I found out" Ike dryly remarks.
"So, the little girl that was with her, is their kid?" Stevie frowns further confused.
"But isn't he married to Doris?"
"Doris died; Ben married Y/N about six months ago" Ike explains to him.
"Emma is Y/N's daughter, yes... but Ben isn't her father."
"Who's the dad then?" Stevie responds, brows deeply furrow as he attempts make sense of everything.
"She's like three years old... that can only mean-" then it hits him.
"Oh-my-God... she's yours, isn't she? I thought she reminded of someone. Lo... she looks just like her."
"Yeah, she's mine" Ike utters out with a heavy sigh as he pinched the bridge of his nose in attempt to delay the headache surfacing its ugly head.
"Did you know all this time?" Stevie scowls at the fact that his sister was being raised by Ben 'the Butcher' Diamond. A sister that until now he never knew existed.
"No" Ike's drops in shame, confessing to Stevie then.
"I saw her and Emma once from a distance, thought she had met someone after Havana. Only found out she was married to Ben during the New's Year party. Found out she was mine from Ben earlier today."
"What?! Ben knows you're her dad?" Stevie stares at him wide-eyed.
"No, he doesn't know I'm her father" Ike shakes his head in response.
"All he knows; is that it was an ex-fiancé of Y/N's four years ago. He doesn't I was the guy."
"Thanks God..." Stevie lets out a sigh of relief.
"I don't think he'd be too happy finding out you fathered a child with his wife."
"I'm not worried about myself" Ike frowns in response.
"I'm afraid for Emma and Y/N's safety."
With a just as equal frown of his own, Stevie nods in agreement.
"I don't understand why she never let you know about Emma. You had the right to know."
"Maybe the fact that I left her for another woman, two weeks before our wedding...?" Ike drawls in response. He fascial features turning to one of shame.
*
She's been walked on And stepped on So many times And I hate to admit it But the last footprint's mine
She was crying when I met her She cries harder today So don't blame her Life turned her that way
"Honestly, I can't blame her. I put her through a lot in that short time. Not only did I leave her, but I also left her pregnant and alone. If she's bitter towards me; it's what I deserve for what I did to her."
"Ok, what are you going to do about Ben though?" Stevie enquires.
"I'm going to get him out of their lives" Ike states in a serious tone.
"Not sure how yet, but I'm not going to allow that bastard to destroy their lives."
So don't blame her Life turned her that way...
