I wanted to make a proper post about this so here I goooo

If you follow me, you’ll know that I absolutely adore Douxie. He’s darn near everything I could ever love about a character. Heck, about a person. I mean he’s a cool goth-punk rocker who’s kind-hearted, who’s passionate about doing the right thing, who looks out for others, steadfast in his values, is a helpless goofball bean of a moppet, etc, etc. As I’ve said before, Douxie’s character truly revitalized the artist and writer in me. Easily one of my favorite fictional characters of all time. Aaahhh I could go on and on about how much Douxie has inspired me.

*big sigh* And so....

Last year, as I sat in the aftermath of RoTT and lamented the unfair shortness of Wizards, I started imagining the idea of a Douxie spin-off series. I brainstormed that it could be called Hisirdoux: Tales of Arcadia or even just Hisirdoux and be all about Douxie’s life before the events of the main series or what he was up to in specific episodes of Trollhunters and 3Below, some kind of follow-up from RoTT (memories and Master Wizardness restored, of course), or all of the above! (And of course more Zoe!)

.....Yeah, it’s probably not gonna happen :’) Which, y’know, is okay and I have accepted it lol

BUT THEN

It’s a few months old but I only recently stumbled upon Aaron’s tweet:

Funny thing, I actually saw someone ask Aaron about the possibility of a spin-off (couldn’t find the tweet, sadly) and I remember him replying that, as much as he’d love that, it wasn’t his call to make.

.........LOOK I AIN’T TRYNA SAY NOTHIN’...............buuuuuut idk???? kiiiiiinda seems kinda, I dunno, kiiinda...y’know...y’know???

Ahem. 

Anywho, this most likely doesn’t mean anything, just a CRUEL playful comment in response to a ToA fan (btw it is really awesome that Aaron still engages with the fandom from time to time ^^). It’s more than likely that Douxie will forever be a small, sweet treasure. And ya know what? That’s perfectly fine. Yeah, his series was done kinda dirty but boy did that lad still shine. I mean an entire zine was made just for him. So many people adore Douxie, and it’s clear as daylight as to why. He’s not just a cool character. He’s an example. We may have only had him for 10 episodes, but the inspiration, the impact, carries on. So yeah...Aaron’s tweet is probably just a teasing throwaway.

Rereading twin cannons has made me wonder how vengeful spirits are regarded in twinsverse vs canonverse. More specifically, how it affects how Rika is viewed. In canon her passing on is seen as ‘freeing’ her, which implies that life as a cursed spirit is not worth living.

However, Twins!Suguru seems to be horrified that she’s gone. Given that she and Yuuta in twinsverse seem to be planning on living a full life together, does that mean that he views the passing of canon Rika more like her dying instead of being freed?

Sorry if I’m explaining this weirdly, but just how is life as a vengeful spirit viewed in canonverse vs twinsverse?

So, vengeful spirits!

In canon, there are two main examples of vengeful spirits that we see: Orimoto Rika, and Zenin Naoya. Both of whom retain some semblance of their self and personage as cursed spirits following their deaths. They're both presented as warped versions of themselves, more 'monstrous curse' than 'human' after the transformation, and that would be how most people view vengeful spirits. In the eyes of sorcerers, vengeful spirits are distorted curses, horrifying caricatures of the people they used to be. Exorcising them is the only way to free their spirits and allow them to achieve peace and move on.

And then along comes Shiki. Who's a cursed spirit, but also retains a human ego to a shocking degree even despite being a curse. That's unprecedented. Because we see that as curses, vengeful spirits are prone to destruction and madness, malice and obsession. Obsessions or strong feelings that they had during life carry over to define their existence as curses: Rika attaches herself to Yuta, Naoya single-mindedly hunts down Maki in the Culling Games.

Cursed spirit Shiki might have a few screws loose, but she is not defined by obsession. If anything, it's her love for her brother that defines her, and in this case it makes all the difference.

What happens in Twins-verse is that Sato-Shiki help Rika regain her human ego as a cursed spirit. Without the obsessive madness and desire for destruction definitive of a cursed spirit clouding her mind, Rika and Yuta talk things through with each other and end up settling on a partnership for 'the remainder of Yuta's lifetime,' instead of having Rika move on ahead of him.

Suguru's horror towards seeing Rika in canon-verse is due to the fact that it's not Rika.

In canon, we know that Rika's soul moved on during the events of JJK0, and later on we find out that the Rika that we see in JJK canon timeline is not 'Orimoto Rika,' but instead something that's more akin to a shikigami that the original Rika left behind for Yuta after she passed on.

In chapter 178, we see "Rika" described as "An external storage of cursed techniques and cursed energy that Orimoto Rika left for Okkotsu after she was released."

In terms of the Twin Cannons AU, this means that Suguru sees Okkotsu Yuta standing with an empty construct that's only a facsimile of Rika and not Rika, so of course he's very startled and alarmed by what he sees. What happened to Rika in this world?

I know this is an art blog only but wanna ramble about some SOH Rayman headcanons that's been living rent free in my mind a bit:

- So after Rayman takes over Phantom's Space Opera Network, he mostly helps out the rabbids with their shows behind the scenes and rarely appears on the TV.

He doesn't mind much about that, but those who know about him are aware that he's the real mvp that keeps their TV network alive and well received by the audience, which helps them to expand their studio further with new opportunities.

- Rayman still has mixed feelings about the rabbids since it takes time to heal his past trauma about them, but seeing rabbids able to cooperate and appreciate his participation in their TV studio as their director/supervisor is a quite nice change of pace to see to him.

It makes him become more committed to learn and study more about his new position and the world of films and TV shows, aiming to make a positive change not only for their studio, but both for him and the rabbids.

- Once a while his old and new companions would come to his studio to check out on how he's been doing lately and hangs out with him ( maybe even plan to make a show together one day? )

- Often times Rayman would buy out some food and drinks (and maybe sometime cooks?) for the Rabbids when they're on a set so they can enjoy it during their break or while filming the scenes.

(I would like to think sometimes he gave them tropical/orange juice box and sushi because why not)

I was feeling pretty tired when I went into work on Sunday (I work part-time at a Longhorn) and so I decided to have me a cup of coffee. And guys. Guys, I dunno if it was because I hadn’t had caffeine in a while or what, but I’m not exaggerating when I say I started feeling like I was on another plane of existence lol. I was tripping hard, y’all, and I was actually concerned cause I felt like was losing my mind. Like I started jumping in place, singing (landing some runs which was nice, I’ll admit lol), and telling really dumb jokes to all these people I barely know and just being SO ANNOYING cause I was so out of it x__x 

So I had me some sparkling water and eventually felt better. Once the madness subsided, I actually apologized to one of my coworkers for being such a lunatic for most the night ;__; TLDR I’m gonna steer clear of Longhorn’s coffee for a while lol
