7 Tips for a Hassle-Free Destination Wedding in Cancun or Riviera Maya Mexico
Planning a destination wedding in Cancun? Congratulations! Here are our top 7 tips to ensure your big day is stress-free and absolutely perfect.
Choose the Right Time of Year Cancun is stunning year-round, but it's important to consider the weather and tourist seasons. The best time for a wedding is during the dry season, from November to April. This ensures sunny skies and pleasant temperatures for your special day.
Hire a Local Wedding Planner A local wedding planner is invaluable. They know the best vendors, venues, and have insider knowledge that can save you time and stress. Plus, they can handle any unexpected issues that arise on-site, allowing you to relax and enjoy your wedding.
Visit the Venue in Advance If possible, take a trip to Cancun before the wedding to visit potential venues, meet with vendors, and finalize details. This will give you peace of mind and ensure everything meets your expectations.
Simplify Your Décor Less is more when you’re surrounded by the natural beauty of Cancun. Opt for simple, elegant décor that complements the stunning backdrop of beaches and lush landscapes. This also makes logistics easier and reduces stress.
Plan for Guest Comfort Consider your guests’ experience. Provide welcome bags with essentials like sunscreen, bug spray, and a schedule of events. Make sure there’s plenty of shade and hydration options during the ceremony and reception to keep everyone comfortable.
Understand Legal Requirements Ensure you understand and fulfill all legal requirements for getting married in Mexico. This may include obtaining certain documents, translations, and blood tests. Your wedding planner can help guide you through this process.
Embrace the Local Culture Incorporate local traditions and flavors into your wedding. From a mariachi band to authentic Mexican cuisine, adding local elements can make your wedding unique and memorable for you and your guests.
By following these tips, you’ll be well on your way to having a beautiful, hassle-free destination wedding in Cancun. Happy planning, and here’s to your perfect day in paradise!

CA: A surcharge of $10 per passenger, per night will apply for complimentary stays for taxes and gratuities. Benefits do not apply if couple’s reservation is made through an online travel agency. Complimentary nights will be refunded by the couple’s booking source. Complimentary nights are awarded on room category booked up to Alcoba Ocean Front and double occupancy only. It was a sweet, emotion-filled day with tears from everyone (including me) and it could not have been more perfect.*US: A surcharge of $10 USD per person, per night will apply for complimentary stays for taxes and gratuities. Their family and friends were so welcoming and loving, and the day of the wedding came and went like a breeze. The picturesque, tropical landscape served as the relaxing spot for their 60-some guests, and not only was the resort absolutely perfect, I was treated like family. Catherine and Zach have impeccable taste, and treating their guests to a good time while there was important to them. Photographing their wedding at Unico 2087 Hotel and Resort in Riviera Maya, Mexico was like dream. That’s just one small sampling of the many stories I’ve heard about the two of them, and after getting to know them over the last year, I just know they are going to be so happy in their life together. Zach sent her flowers “to Liz” just because he knew it would mean the world to Cat. The first month they were dating was the first year Cat had to celebrate her sister’s birthday since she’d passed. They’ve spent their time growing together. It’s a beautiful, unselfish love. Of everything I’ve loved about getting to know them, though (besides how sweet they both are and our shared love for travel), by far my favorite is that when they do something, they are in it together – they are always thinking of the other and making decisions with the other in mind. Cat and Zach have had many date and wine nights here in Cincinnati, traveled the globe together, got engaged in Paris, and got married in Mexico. They met while working the surgical trauma ICU together, and from there, they started their adventures.

I couldn’t have asked for anyone better to capture our wedding.Flights can be added to any package at time of booking. Emily was the best photographer and she was so sweet and attentive. Invest in a great photographer! These pictures are what you’ll have to look back on your special day. Also, something that was very important to me was photography. Also, remember the moment that you first see each other on your wedding day, and let loose at the reception! We made the best memories with our family and friends at the reception that we will be talking about for years. Don’t stress too much over stuff you can’t control. My best advice is to be calm and in the moment. When I walked down the aisle and saw Ryan my nerves disappeared. Once I made my way down to the beach, I was getting very nervous and anxious. The whole day getting ready for the wedding I was very calm. Q: What was your favorite memory from your big day?Ī:My favorite memory from our wedding day was finally getting to see Ryan. I only got one bite of it at the reception, but it was absolutely amazing. The decoration was very minimal, which I loved. It was a two-tier vanilla cake with fresh strawberries mixed in. I had her do white roses and eucalyptus since I knew that I would have eucalyptus and greenery for decoration at the gazebo we got married at.Ī: Our cake was also provided by the resort. I had them made my one of my friends’ mom in my hometown. My bridesmaid’s and the groomsmen’s flowers were artificial. It was a bouquet of white roses Ryan’s boutonniere was a single white rose. My flowers were actually provided for me by the resort. We had it customized to be strapless and it ended up being absolutely perfect. When I purchased it, it had a spaghetti strap style top. My gown was a Martin Thornburg Mon Cheri dress. I purchased my gown from Pomp and Pageantry in Oklahoma City. We have been together now for 4 years now. I had no idea that the first night I moved that I would meet him. Complete fate! When I moved to Oklahoma City from my small hometown, I had hoped I would meet my future husband someday. Ryan and I met on the very first night that I moved to Oklahoma City. I found a lot of my inspiration on Pinterest.Ī little bit of backstory from the bride: I wanted to keep the palette very clean and minimal. I didn’t want a lot of color since we were getting married next to the beach, and the gazebo ended up having a lot of greenery. My main and only color in the wedding was blue (Ryan and I both love the color blue). What was your color palette and style vision? Photography: Emily Nicole Photo | venue: Unico Hotel Riviera Maya | hair and makeup: Adney Artistry | wedding dress: Pomp and Pageantry | The Unico Hotel Riviera Maya in Mexico featured vendors: I could get used to this 😉 UNICO 2087 Hotel Riviera Maya I had so much fun with this crew, sweet friends & family that welcomed me in!! I flew out of OKC with the family & wedding party on Sunday, got to hangout and relax with them around the gorgeous UNICO 20º87º Hotel Riviera Maya till the wedding Wednesday. This wedding took place at the UNICO 2087 Hotel Riviera Maya in Mexico.

Pascal! Welcome Back from your trip! Glad you had a great time. Is it too personal to hear some details of your travels? I can’t afford to have any sort of vacation right now, so I would love to “live vicariously” through your little experience if you wouldn’t mind sharing since I know you also love traveling.
Also, let me be clear… I’m on the same page as you ladies with Alba: I do not like her. However, is it weird that I feel bad for her? Like I have no idea what’s going on from the inside or what she’s got going on & such. But I couldn’t deal with all the harassment she’s dealing with from strangers on a regular basis, especially at her age. Just for marrying some guy. Like it’s honestly insane.
Sure! I will say it’s kind of a boring story because we just kind of stuck to the resort and relaxed a bit. If you’re ever looking to travel, check out the apple vacations website because we were able to find some great deals on there! There were some excursions we considered doing but ultimately didn’t because the trip was so short. I would have liked to see Chichen Itza, other ruins in Tulum, and explore cenotes around the area but we decided we just wanted to relax. I do want to go back to Mexico one day when we have a bit more time to see those things as well as explore more of the history and culture of country itself because I feel like there’s so much to see and do. We planned our trip literally 3 weeks before we left, so had I had more time to look into things, I maybe would have stayed somewhere else closer to some of the excursions we were interested in so we wouldn’t have lost too much time traveling.
We stayed in Riviera Maya and the resort was actually very nice. It was perfect for exactly what we did which was stay on property for the long weekend and just enjoy what the resort had to offer. We had gorgeous weather the entire time. We mostly soaked up the sun at the pool and on the beach and it was great. As much as I wanted to run around seeing things, it was nice to just kick back and relax. Our resort was right next to a marina so we were able to walk around and check out some shops and have dinner at a restaurant right on the ocean. I love a good water view. Saturday I tequila-ed a little too close to the sun both literally and figuratively. 😂 If someone offers you a Paloma or margarita with a Tajin rim instead of salt, do it! It’s so worth it! The next day was a tad rough, but we enjoyed some massages at the spa before heading back to the pool. It made my summer lover heart happy. Then it was back home to the cold and snow 😭 I didn’t take too many pictures, but I can share the view from our room which overlooked the pool and ocean as well as their pavilion that they use for weddings and other fun guest activities 🦎
