Rome taste Sometimes I like to feel Rome style and taste of carbonara with crunchy pancetta (guanciale is absolutely the best choice) and a creamy sauce made by fresh eggs and pepper with hot and salty boiled water and pecorino cheese with the right mantecatura just as roman style needs.. . #carbonarapasta #romanstyle #rometaste #carbonararomana #rigatoniallacarbonara #homestylepasta (presso Calice Italian caffè Bistrò 칼리체) https://www.instagram.com/p/CEI29aZnQb-/?igshid=1e7weqhzoyayq

When in Rome...venerate at Verano once more
As readers who've been with me for a while, particularly those who've been with me for a long while, will know, of all the places we've been in The Eternal City there is one that has a special place in our heart. Well, ok, we admit it, all the places we've been to in The Eternal City have a special place in our heart. But one that has a special, special place is Verano. It calls us back often, although we physically don't go as much as we would like. Indeed, given the mosquito situation, it is really only between November and March that we feel safe going, not wishing to be eaten alive. Earlier this month, we pushed our luck by going one afternoon. We saw some new sections and revisited some sections we've not been to for a long time. You can study them all here. Below are some highlights.
This at an entrance we'd never previously used. We just love it. Then this. Even things in reverse in Rome are Rometastic.
And this spectacular tribute in the section of the cemetery to those, both military and non-military, fallen in war. Brutal, but beautiful.
This dedicated to those in Rome who died during bombardments.
Because as you know in Rome it's always (at least) two for the price of one.
And the memorial that reminded us of one of the most beautiful (if paparazzi) shots of The Princess, taken not long before she went upstairs.
And here's that photo, from Getty Images, almost as if The Princess is turning round to say goodbye before taking flight with the bird.
This was an example of a memorial from a part of the cemetery that was new to us.
There was so much going on here that we thought a thesis could be written about it.
This we just adored.
And this, all its beauty intact amidst its decay.
This reminded us of what a beautiful thing immigration is. How can it not be when it means a person can reside for eternity in such a hallowed spot?
Being fans of shadows and green, how could we not record this?
As we always think when we bid 'ciao' to Verano, may all those we walked amongst be resting in peace and may someone please someday produce a book detailing all the magnificent tombs, gravestones and memorials etc, etc. via Blogger https://ift.tt/2r4Ikqs
