** Lola Rosa Place-Des-Arts, Montréal ** We hadn't heard of poutine at all until we came to Canada. For those in the same boat, Poutine is a hearty dish of french fries and cheese curds topped with a brown gravy. It is said to have emerged in Quebec, Canada, in the late 1950s in the Centre-du-Québec region. We cannot see why (because it's so delicious) but for many years it was said to have been perceived negatively and mocked, and even used by some to stigmatize the Québécois culture. Nowadays though, Poutine is the national dish of Canada, there are even Poutine festivals to celebrate the humble dish in major cities such as Toronto, Ottawa and Chicago. Here was our first ever taste of Poutine, the 'Poutine Lola' (vegan of course) 🌱 Frites fraiches, fromage en grain du Québec, sauce brune aux champignons et herbes. Homemade french fries, Quebec vegan cheese sauce, with a fresh herb and mushroom gravy. Not even slightly ashamed that we have spent £90 on vegan cheese in the last three weeks. After a 5 month #drsebi alkaline detox, we jumped on the chance to saviour a hand crafted artisan treat, or ten. This was a cheeseboard movie night fuelled by @tynechease and various organic treats from @unicorngrocery Tyne Chease Ltd deliver across the UK and their chease is absolutely unbelievable in taste, texture and flavour. We first tasted it over 5 years ago at a vegan festival in Newcastle (why eye man) and haven't stopped dreaming about it since. They craft seasonal limited edition flavours as well as staples such as marinara, smoked, applewood, garlic, chives and original.
