I AM DOING #FASHUNS.

As promised, I'm doing fancy hat party #fashun and I am once again asking you to shut the fuck up and keep your nitpicking to urselfs.

I am working 12 hours/day Thursday-Saturday and all this shit is finna be scheduled. I do not have the time to fuss over details and I have no idea what any of this is (except the ceremony itself which of course means dress blues).

What are your favorite colors on Meghan? I think white, gold, and green are her best colors to go with her skin tone. My favorite outfit, oddly enough was her pregnancy gold and white dress with the pillbox hat. Those colors were gorgeous on her!

Hi, great question! It'd honestly be easier to list which colors I don't like on her, haha. She really can pull off almost anything. I especially love her in very rich, saturated colors. I also imagine I would love her in a range of pastels, but sadly she hasn't worn enough of those to confirm. Basically, scroll through my recent post on gala outfit predictions to see the kinds of colors I want to see her in. But if I had to narrow down my faves that we've actually seen on her, I'd say:

1) Vivid blues

2) Bright greens

3) Wine reds

4) Cool whites

(In particular I love that crisp, cold white of her wedding dress, which is typically very precarious on most people, but it just LIT her up in a way I still - to this day - somewhat can't believe. A more traditional cream color would have had no where near the same kind of electrifying effect. Perfect choice.)

For anyone curious on my dislikes:

1) Look, I have no personal beef with the color navy. Some of my all time faves of hers are in navy! It seems to be her comfort color, so all the power to her. But I am more than a little tired of it at this point and while I certainly don't think it looks bad on her, it doesn't necessarily add anything for her either.

2) The one color I can think of that I really don't like is that strange, sickly khaki green she seems to be fond of for some reason. When she wears it casually off duty, like she did at baby Archie's polo debut, then fine, whatever. But when she keeps bringing it out for formal events, like she did on their Oceania tour (more than once!) and their South Africa tour (also more than once!! Seriously why does she wear this color so much?) and to Louis's christening?? It's a HARD no from me, baby. Let's bring back the jewel tones.

Do you have any feels on the Duchess of Sussex, particularly as she has a link to Canada? I'm English and pretty ambivalent about the royals generally - but was obviously pretty sad to see the fall out of everything. Wondered your view as a Canadian and general interest point?

I closely follow and enjoy the royals (and all the discourse/drama) that go with it (they are my problematic faves). I loved Meghan before her relationship with Harry (Suits, her in general) and was invested and supportive of her integration into the Royal Family, especially in being a WOC in an otherwise very white and old institution. 

Watching her on the royal tours she and Harry embarked on was so fulfilling for me (they always are because FASHUN) and even with all the drama I was so invested in the new paths the four of them (the Cambridges + Sussexes) were going to usher in for the monarchy and what they would all be capable of doing to bring the monarchy into a modern age. 

The disintegration and retirement of the Sussexes from being working royals and not being able to find a suitable middle ground saddens me, the Oprah interview deeply saddened me. I loved seeing Harry and Meghan as working royals and I know they’re forging their own path on their own but it’s not the same and I wish they had figured out a way to make it work.

To reply to the last anon who talked about misogyny in the fandom (who was totally right) here’s my add on to the take.

I’ve always felt like being a man in the royal family would be so easy because you can wear the same 5 or 6 different suits and no one will bat an eye. You don’t have to come up with a new stylish on trend but “age appropriate” inventive outfit, a full face of professional looking makeup, freshly blown out hair, and a perfect nude pink manicure every time you step outside of the house while managing to walk in 4 inch heels while your 8 months pregnant. You don’t have to worry about getting berated for wearing the same outfit over and over and not being “fashionable” and you don’t have to worry about getting bitched at for constantly buying new clothes. Harry was at one point wearing the shittiest oldest beat up shoes and other than like here, in close quarters within the fandom I feel like no one really talked about it at all but if his wife, sister in law or granny had dry cuticles or something tiny like that I’d bet good money we would’ve seen zoomed in microscopic pictures everywhere of them and people bitching about how the royal women are unkept and need a manicure, let alone if they wore busted up heels.

Speaking of Harry, he goes idk years or some shit looking unkept as fuck grooming wise sometimes in military uniform and no one says anything but his wife doesn’t wear a hat to an engagement, has a rough hair day as a result and she’s still getting berated for it a few years later and the whole time Harry’s hair looks like a sucked fuzzy mango but nearly no snark there. His wife doesn’t wear tailored clothes and yes to be honest it looks less than great but I can almost swear he wore some poorly tailored suits a time or two and.... nearly nothing.

I’m a person who has my own personal reservations about Meghan (and Harry) and that whole situation but people need to be fucking for real when not noticing the double standard that they imposed on Meghan and still impose on Kate. Williams not going to sleep with you, neither is Harry. Someone’s probably going to jump 4 inches deep in my butt crack for “defending” Meghan but I’m not defending her at all, like *at all* just pointing out that her husband did the same shit if not worse for a decade or more before Meghan came on the scene and they all wanted to hop into bed with him.

Also, Catherine gets shit on for wearing “dowdy” coat dresses but if you do try to be different in your royal fashion you will get bullied online for it for years. see: Beatrice and Eugenies hats at William and Catherine’s wedding. People don’t understand because of royal dress code (*not protocol, for the love of sugar, spice and everything nice it’s not protocol*) there’s only so many new and exciting things you can do with your fashion without becoming a walking model and fashionista which is not what being a royal lady is about.

Kindly, everyone needs to stop caring about if a royal family member who happens to be a woman has worn those heels before and start focusing on the causes that she’s trying to draw attention to. People are big time missing the point of a working monarchy.

I’m sorry for the even longer rant, just a woman in the royal fandom who proceeds to also not get the internalized misogyny.

This, I think, sums up the fandom in this aspect.

Something that has irked me is that this fandom has mantained a "men's fashun is booooorrring" attitude because one guy really likes blue. Meanwhile, Sir is over here wearing professionally tailored suits that usually look good as fuck (he's had times where this hasn't been the case), with the occasional novelty tie that relates to the place he's visiting/activity he's doing (pandas for WWF for example) but nobody wants to speak on his fashun because "ew, man." He has literally been declared Britain's best dressed man more than once but no, that doesn't count.

ALSO. YES. Thank you for addressing Harry's avoidance of combs and inability to dress himself. I swear he just puts on the least wrinkled shirt in the pile on the floor...right after getting out of bed. It's bothered me on a professional level that he does not shave while in uniform, because only the Royal Navy allows beards. He wants to make his service his personality at any event he can, but refuses to shave ergo not being in proper uniform. Because of course he gets a pass from (at the time) granny because oh my god, if he didn't he'd throw an entire tantrum like "MY MOM DIED WHEN I WAS 12 I SHOULD BE ALLOWED TO IGNORE THE REGULATIONS I KNOW VERY WELL THE ARMY HAS REGARDING FACE HAIR. Yes so cute! From what I've gathered, the tradition with BRF children seems to be: dress them as toddlers for as long as you can, and then when that's over immediately jump them up into dressing like they're middle-aged. So it was lovely to see an outfit that managed to be both elegant and fresh!

London Fashion Week returns this week to showcase some of the most talented and innovative fashion designers in the world, and ignite a city-wide celebration of the creative industries. 

On September 14, international press, buyers and influencers will descend on the capital for the bi-annual four-day fashion frenzy known as London Fashion Week.

And whilst the shows themselves are mostly reserved for industry insiders, you don’t have to be a fashion editor to get a taste of the action.

Sit on the FROW at London Fashion Week

De La Vali is showing at London Fashion Week for the first time (De La Vali)

Want to rub shoulders with the fashion elite? You can now officially sit on the FROW at London Fashion Week. The British Fashion Council has announced that two of London’s finest homegrown brands, Temperley and De La Vali, will stage public shows during LFW, where they will showcase their autumn/winter 2020 collections during four different timeslots throughout the day.

Alice Temperley MBE founded her eponymous label, Temperley London, in 2000, a year after graduating from the Royal College of Art. Temperley London is a favourite of the Duchess of Cambridge and has been worn in recent weeks by Greta Gerwig and Alexis Bledel. De La Vali meanwhile is an Ibizan-born brand that’s become a go-to for Instagram’s cool girls. Its pieces are flamboyant, fun and feminine.

Bird, whose previously captured brightly coloured chalk and charcoal live drawings backstage and from the runway for the likes of Matches Fashion, Maje and The Rake, will work on a first come first served basis, inviting guests to take away with their one-of-a-kind portrait free of charge. The May Fair Hotel’s ‘fashun’ menu and mesmerising window

It’s not fashion week if it’s not totally OTT and ‘extra.’ That’s what the team at The May Fair Hotel, which is incidentally, the official London Fashion Week hotel, is well aware of. Each season during fashion week, the hotel has a different fashion designer curate a beautiful window display as well as introducing a new selection of cocktails.

This season, to celebrate the hotel’s twelfth year as The Official Hotel of London Fashion Week, the hotel has called upon its resident designer, Osman Yousefzada, the man known for his strong and bold sculptural designs, to design a window around the concept of sustainability.

Yousefzada has also designed a series of ‘OSMAN recommended’ dishes available at the hotel’s in-house Italian and Spanish restaurant, May Fair Kitchen. 

We’ll have the chilli panko tiger prawns with jalapeño emulsion, thank you very much.

Try before you rent… 

The My Wardrobe HQ x Liberty London pop-up (My Wardrobe HQ)

The rental fashion market is booming and so to coincide with LFW, rental fashion companies are launching pop-ups across the capital, meaning you can try on the rental pieces IRL. 

My Wardrobe HQ is one of a handful of brands monopolising the fashion rental marketplace. In December the company hosted 80 influencers and editors alike at the British Fashion Awards, highlighting the gems one can find through renting their clothes. Its pop-up at Liberty London launches today.

Fellow rental company Hurr Collective has also launched its first pop-up at Selfridges, meaning you can choose from the curated range of 200 pieces from cool-girl brands, RIXO, Ganni, Mara Hoffman and Gucci.

The My Wardrobe HQ x London pop-up opens on February 11 and runs until March 31. Find out more about it here. 

The Hurr Collective pop-up is open now at Selfridges and will last for six months. It will be situated in the Contemporary Studio on the third floor.
