i don't really have much to say, esp since i know there's going to be a tonne of brilliant meta posts very soon but still:

pete saying this is so heart wrenching bc like. he's so terrified and overwhelmed and still unsure of his own worth. he just quit his job and received a love confession from his ex-captor and realised he might like said ex-captor back, all in the span of maybe thirty minutes before watching vegas try to kill himself.

pete is so desperate for vegas to stop saying he has nothing left because he still has pete and if vegas keeps insisting he doesn't have anything, then what does that mean about pete's worth and value?

but do you know the thing that confuses me though?

it's that kim didn't...have to lie. when chay stops him, tears in his eyes and everything, he wasn't asking why did you lie or even how dare you use me. he only asked kim if he ever loved chay.

and i think that's what changed the way i looked at kimchay. it's really not sweet flower petal chay living in a wattpad fic anymore, it's someone much more real, someone willing to come to terms with another heartbreak right on the heels of the one his brother gifted him. i don't know that chay would've forgiven kim or fallen into his arms or anything of the sort but it matters that his question was about what kim felt, rather than what kim did.

which is why, coming back, i don't think kim needed to lie. he could've said yes, salvaged something if not all of what they had. sure he thought he was protecting chay or whatever but that also falls flat doesn't it? chay was already attacked. he's entered the orbit of the theerapanyakuls, there's no keeping him safe now. not really.

it's funny to think how kim can sit in his room and think and connect dots all night but the second it comes to chay he loses all sense of cognitive function

i think the thing that really gets me though is how guardian is a loop. both of them knew each other first. we only start with zhao yunlan’s point of view but to ask which of them recognised the other first is like wondering chicken or egg? there’s no one answer but a million correct ones anyway, because the time loop means they’re stuck in a never-ending cycle of knowing one another. it’s why zhao yunlan will always feel as though he’s met professor shen before, it’s why shen wei will happily let kunlun give him a name, it’s why the wheel will turn again and even though they won’t end together, they will always have each other.
