mostly i just want to learn paladin mechanics because i've never played one

anyway! i'm at 102 hours or so and at the "battle your way up the citadel" portion with the old crew (sorry i'm biased, i love the way astarion, shadowheart and gale work together)

shadowheart as a paladin? gale as a necromancer with mystic carrion's staff? fuggetaboutit

also, i bought the city out of circle of death, dethrone, and disintegrate scrolls (for crowd control!) and i brought as many gunpowder barrels as a paladin and two ranger/rogue/fighters can carry

the best part? the spectator at the top of the citadel didn't even get a chance to attack, and that's great because i hate fighting spectators 🗣️🗣️🗣️

so i was going to be good in act 2 and not stab isobel to death, but she ended up getting surrounded by winged horrors after shadowheart "accidentally" cast guiding bolt on her and well... (in reality my controller has really bad joystick drift but i was like eh, we'll roll with it)

she got kidnapped hahahah oops! roiben was like

so roiben, gale, astarion and shadowheart ended up having to fight all of the newly shadow-birthed harpers and oopsie, jaheira went and got herself perished. i do want to say that i respecced roiben and astarion both as ranger/rogues (6/2) and they are killing machines. anyway- my party was fine but jaheira was not. neither are the thorm siblings, by the way.

then i got the resist!urge dialogue with fel and astarion, which i had in no way planned

and yay. nobody else died.

little off-topic: i was super worried that having fewer people to choose from as companions would tank the gameplay really bad, but it's.... it's a tradeoff. it's way more strategic and it's that much more fun. i still can't quite deal with the emotional loss re: wyll, karlach, halsin, minthara, and jaheira however. ㅠ^ㅠ

none of the companions are wise yet that roiben is absolutely going to sell them all out at the end though, like he's still neutral evil. he's gonna ride the subway until the end of the line and that's it.

so i took gale out of the party to bring lae'zel to voss, not thinking that orin's whole kidnapping joke would trigger so quickly (he was the only other companion in my camp; i only have shart, lae, gale, and astarion)

uhh so now that i've done the ascension with astarion, the next stop is the fuckin sewers i guess, i need my wizard bestie back

i'm so, so glad that i multiclassed lae into barbarian cause she hits like an absolute truck

currently deciding whether to stab everyone at moonrise first or to finish the nightsong quest first

one thing that is gonna suck is the entire first room of people at moonrise (because i razed last light and all of the harpers are dead oopsie doopsie)

i will have to strategically place gale at camp at some point, i think- he doesn't do so well with full-bodied corruption (re: nightsong)

either way, balthazar has gotta die and soon. he looks like he smells like rotten mustard and feet. i tried six times with festé to kill him in the nightsong prison but holy fuck the dude is hard to kill in there. so i just went to his little lab and locked him inside with the gays.

and oh my god look who it is

festé back from the dead? oh my, but they're missing their nose scar- how uncanny, it couldn't be that someone is posing as them to gain roiben's trust? (trust me, this is so funny because their backstory involves a time loop, a multiverse, and one very petty sorceress)

also, i'm headcanoning it that everytime your tav/durge dies the emperor is like "it's free real estate, yoink, let's go manipulate tav/durge in a different timeline"
