I think Emil actually could fix Alfred if it weren't for the fact that Al is also dating Ivan

Okay wait I'm like super interested in RusAmeIce now please what are your headcanons for them this is such an interesting ship I love it
Okay okay, here are some rusameice thoughts for you:
- America and Iceland got together first, but after the Reykjavik summit they ended up all getting drunk and having a three some and that’s how they got together.
- Iceland is the definition of a sugar baby. His two sugar daddys spoil him rotten and sometimes they get into friendly competitions to see who can dote on him the most.
- between vodka and moonshine there’s so much hard liquor in there house that there kitchen should be considered a fire hazard.
- The three of them are constantly helping eachother with political problems. They don’t know the meaning of confidential, much to there bosses chagrin.
- Iceland is the peace keeper whenever the two super powers get into tiffs. He’s gotten really good at calming the two of them down.

Emil: Alfred is just so interesting! Have you seen how much cotton candy he can eat?
Ivan: Oh yes, 5.1 pounds. That's why his blood is so good on pancakes.

Ivan and Emil have an incredibly fraught and argumentative metamour relationship that Alfred will never actually address because he grew up in an environment where constant bickering was normal, and no amount of being told that his boyfriends legitimately hate each other seems to clue him into the fact that there's a problem

Ivan: I hate it when all the shows Alfred and I watch together go on hiatus. There's nothing for us to do.
Emil: You could talk to each other.
Alfred: Absolutely not! That's what bath time is for.

I said I like RusAmeIce because I want more unhealthy poly relationship rep but let me expand on that:
Alfred and Ivan start dating in the mid 1800s and their relationship is, at least by nation standards, pretty healthy to start. Obviously they have some conflict like any couple, but they're both generally in a space where they can meet the other where they are and communicate about things.
However, due to a combination of political and personal factors they both grow and change over the course of their relationship to the point of being at odds with one another. By the early 1900's they have very different priorities and values from one another that can't be reconciled. But... they still love each other, and they've both invested a lot into their relationship at this point so neither of them is really willing to just break up.
And they already have an open relationship (I don't think monogamy is a norm for nations generally) so why not try to meet some of the emotional needs their current relationship clearly isn't meeting with a different partner?
So in the 1940's Alfred starts dating Emil, and the thing is, Emil is really a pretty good partner for Al. They have a lot of shared interest and values, and it takes a year or two, but they're able to work out and come to a pretty solid agreement on what they want their relationship to be.
The problem is that a new relationship is never a quick fix for one that isn't working. Emil getting together with Alfred coincides with rising political tension and suddenly Alfred and Ivan's relationship is more disfunctional than it's ever been. Emil has no chance to establish a metamor relationship with Ivan in a more neutral environment, leading to a very negative metamor relationship where all Emil really sees is this other person that seems to make his boyfriend absolutely miserable.
Alfred and Ivan for their part, spend the Cold War having a very hostile and argumentative on and off relationship, and absolutely no one wants to spend time around the two of them.
They chill out a bit in the 90s, but by that time Ivan and Emil's relationship has very little chance of repairing itself or getting off to a new start. So well Alfred and Ivan might have mostly worked their differences out, their is a whole new set of conflicts to be navigated between Emil and Ivan before the three of them can find a healthy dynamic.

I can't believe y'all take the time to make separate character playlist for this fandom. I have one (1) Hetalia playlist that covers all of the characters/ships/family dynamics I like and I just guess by the vibes what character(s) I was thinking about when I added each song

I have to believe that Iceland is an exceptionally good diplomat because otherwise RusAmeIce is just the most toxic gay couple you've ever met in your life and their live in sugar baby, which is not the vibe I'm going for

What are the reasons you like rusame?
The main reason I got into RusAme is that I am aromantic and used to be very romance-repulsed. RusAme fics and art tend to lean pretty heavily into the enemies to lovers trope, which at the time I found a lot more manageable than some of the fluffier content that exists for other ships simply because there usually wasn't any actual romance until the end.
As I've gotten older I've gotten less romance repulsed (although I am still aro) and honestly at this point a lot of the reason I still like RusAme is just nostalgia. I actually really prefer their dynamic to be exes rather than current partners at this point. That said, I do enjoy the RusAmeIce triad on occasion (especially when my own fluffy romantic AmeIce bullshit is getting to be too much for me and I need to add in some drama).
Which honestly, the drama is sort of at the crux of why I still like them. Alfred and Ivan have good tension. They are excellent foils to each other and that plays out in some magnificently disastrous ways.
Nowadays I'm more inclined to spend my time reading and thinking about more chill, healthy relationship dynamics, which is why I prefer AmeIce. RusAme definitely has more fan content to dig through though, and sometimes I do want to read about messy dysfunctional relationships, which the ship is good for. So yeah RusAme is not my very favorite, but I for sure have a soft spot for it.

Yup Ameice on your blog!! I am going through your fic “Building Love Out of Lego”, and I am drowning from cuteness. Also you just pulled me into rarepair ot3 that Ive never have thought of - rusameice. whoa this is hot but at the same time they are also three innocent boys loving each other.
Glad you like the fic! I just think rusameice has an interesting relationship dynamic because of the GIUK gap and the Reykjavik Summit. I think the idea of Ice being the reason Russia and America can get together in the first place and then becoming a part of that relationship dynamic is kind of a fun take on the rusame relationship, so I’m glad you like it too!
