Codex of Steam & Sigil: Throne of Rustflame chapter 1
WF·IRONTHRAW
Codex of Steam & Sigil: Throne of Rustflame
chapter 1:Rusted Epilogue, Elemental Overture
Damp mildew fermented in the attic air as Tom wiped condensation from the brass vent duct with his sleeve. The shadow of the Empire Building sliced diagonally through the window, dividing the gold-embossed cover of The Codex Elementalis into light and dark halves. Steam pipes roared beyond the walls, rattling the tin roof until it trembled.
"Elements are the warp and weft of all creation," he whispered, tracing the raised gear insignia on the title page. The yellowed parchment chronicled secrets from before the Steam Era—how the primordial elementals had ignited magma veins with molten fire and sculpted mountains with hurricane breath. An illustration showed copper-armored giants forging the first Elemental Resonator with lightning.
The bed frame creaked. Tom turned to see his rusted zweihänder trembling, its hexagonal socket in the hilt glowing faintly in harmony with the faded red banner on the wall. His father's legacy still bore scorch marks from lava wyrms on the blade—the same blade that had once sheared through steam armor joints when mechanized enforcers raided the slums three winters past.
Elemental coins rattled on the desk. Tom lifted one with tweezers toward the vent window, observing the fire elemental trapped beneath its brass shell like a firefly in amber. Second-class energy tokens like these were forbidden in civilian sectors, but nightwatchmen often turned blind eyes to military orphans.
When the pocket watch's gears aligned at midnight, he reached the final chapter. Marginalia crammed the edges of Steam Era 2010's entry, fresh ink still glistening: "Earth affinity 79%, Fire 62%—Old Charlie says dual-element thresholds over 60% exempt theory exams." His quill paused at the "Elemental Fusion" entry, where a crude hexagram diagram sprawled across the page.
A metallic screech echoed through the pipes. Tom snapped the codex shut, arranging six elemental coins into a defensive array. Mechanical rats gnawed at sewage lines below while drunken coughs and hissing steam valves seeped through floor cracks. He tore open his third shirt button, pressing the icy hexagram pendant against his chest. It burned like the blood moon that witnessed his father's hanging.
Moonlight fractured against the corroded blade as Tom channeled the last fire elemental into the hilt. Lava-like veins pulsed beneath the rust, molten gold coursing through metallic arteries. The wall banner billowed, revealing chalk calculations hidden behind: 37.8% Earth-Fire fusion success rate. East Gate, Imperial Academy, 8 AM.
Dawn prayer bells chimed from the Cathedral of Gears. The first sunlight pierced steam clouds to ignite the elemental coins. Tom bit open his pen's ink reservoir and scrawled across the codex's final page: "After today, the name Clyde shall be etched into the Steam Monolith."

Watched Tenet yesterday cause of your blog and "longterm inverted damage on non-inverted objects" is still giving me a headache. Instead of sleeping brain went brrr trying to reconcile free will with the inherent determinism. But I gotta love the movie going, 'yeah so it's a paradox. moving on, here come the feelings'
I feel you! When I first watched the movie I had like a few days just trying to make sense of it, and because it had limited release there weren’t that many people who’d watched it and could discuss it. But it’s totally using the paradox as an excuse to tell the story it wants to tell, so it’s not worth the headache looking at that paradox too closely. 🤣 (I feel like Nolan could’ve made it easier to follow but he just..... didn’t want to.)

Codex of Steam & Sigil: Throne of Rustflame
chapter 3
WF·IRONTHRAW
Codex of Steam & Sigil: Throne of Rustflame
Chapter 3:Vocational Fantasia in Steamcarriage
Ceramic tires clattered over rail joints in syncopated rhythm with the bus's quadruple-pulse steam engine. Tom sat on riveted leather seats in the second-to-last row, watching floating billboards outside cycle advertisements: "Elemental core installment plans! Engraving tool lifetime warranties! Starter greatswords - 50 gold coins only!"
Condensation fogged windows as a debate erupted ahead. A leather-clad youth hammered seat gears with a wrench. "Elemental analysts finish in three years!" His alchemy vials clinked against his chest. "Get certified, and the Pharma Tower covers lodging with elemental stipends!"
"While brewing explosives that level city blocks?" A blonde girl twirled a brass engraving stylus, its tip etching frost pentagrams in the air. "Last week's Daily Chronicle showed Pharma Tower's mishap vaporizing half a street's neon signs." Ice crystals on her fingers refracted light from passing airships, their wings glowing with engraved circuitry.
A bespectacled country boy shrunk into his seat. "Our village only has smiths teaching steamsword maintenance..."
"Listen!" The leather-clad youth revealed burn scars like living advertisements. "Analysts test 300 elemental reactions—" He produced a fizzling violet vial. "Like this fire-affinity reagent! You'll be your village's richest man, marrying the prettiest girl!"
The girl tapped her stylus against glass, freezing the spreading reagent vapor. "Engravers make elements dance in formation." She displayed twelve engraving blades in a leather roll, withdrawing a star-embossed one. "This Stellar Glyph blade costs 200 gold. Just find some beggar to take out an installment plan under their name—instant success!"
Tom's thumb absently traced his sword's hexagram. Overhead pipes suddenly sprayed lemon-scented mist, holograms materializing in the vapor: swordsmen cleaving granite with flaming blades, engravers etching tornado arrays onto airship engines...
"Daddy look!" A twin-tailed girl leaned perilously out the window. "Lord Laurns is swinging his swords!"
The bus lurched sideways. Passengers crammed against right-side windows, gazing up at the twenty-meter bronze statue dominating the intersection—the legendary swordsman posed atop mechanized chimera wreckage, twin greatswords crossed on his back, steam billowing his leather shorts. Mist rings from the pedestal unveiled holograms of his historic duel: steam-boot jets carving starburst trails as he leapt.
"Suicidal idiots!" The driver yanked copper brake levers, eight exhaust valves shrieking in unison. "Last month some fool's wig got caught in the roof turbine—cost me three months' wages!"
Silence fell as the Academy's spires pierced steamclouds. Seven elemental towers encircled the gear-shaped main hall—earth tower entwined with copper vines, fire tower crowned by eternal azure flames. Airships weaved between spires, contrails braiding ice and fire.
Tom gripped his vibrating sword. A neon banner materialized outside: "Freshman Registration" bleeding through the mist.

Codex of Steam & Sigil: Throne of Rustflame Chapter 2:
WF·IRONTHRAW
Codex of Steam & Sigil: Throne of Rustflame

Chapter 2:Steel Waltz of Fire and Frost
Copper-green steam haze swirled as Tom's boots crunched over frost-glazed cobblestones. The fifteen-meter-wide black market alley coiled like a metallic serpent, its flanks crammed with gear-shaped stalls. A vendor demonstrated a prosthetic steam arm – crimson fire runes at the elbow vaporized water jets from adjacent hydra-glyphs, white vapor snapping mechanical fingers tight enough to pulverize granite.
"Behold!" The vendor slammed two elemental crystals into slots. Brass conduits shuddered, belching concentric steam rings. "Fire matrix heats, water matrix feeds – grade-three cores give seventy-two nonstop hours!" The mechanical hand suddenly splayed, palm jets flipping a neighboring chrono-gear stall into chaos.
Tom dodged flying cogwheels, his scabbard clanging against a mercenary's steam-greatsword. The two-meter monstrosity hummed ominously, pressure gauges on its hilt quivering. The muscle-bound warrior twisted throttle knobs on the sword grip. Exhaust ports on the sword's spine roared with orange flames, the tungsten steel blade glowing molten.
"Taste my Furnace Cleaver!" The man crouched, steam thrusters on his backpack erupting triple jets. He became a crimson comet at ten-meter altitude, sulfurous flames trailing his downward strike. Condensation in every alley pipe began boiling.
The elementalist's white-gloved hands carved five frost trails. Latin letters "ICE" crystallized at the pentagram's heart. A hexagonal ice shield materialized just as subterranean trains thundered. A silver-grey locomotive's phantom shimmered through thermal distortion, sixteen exhaust ports blasting heatwaves that shattered the shield's edge into crystalline shrapnel.
The greatsword bit three inches into disintegrating ice before veering sideways. Molten metal grazed the elementalist's ear as it plunged into flagstones. Overhead, the spectral train howled across elevated tracks, coal smoke spiraling through the frozen-inferno battlefield.
Tom clutched his wind-whipped cap. The Empire Tower's cogwheel clock boomed seven steam geysers skyward. Neon-blue holograms displayed 18:07 as the last bus's whistle screamed three blocks away.
He vaulted over smoldering debris, rusted sword deflecting airborne gears. An olive-green bus hissed shut its pneumatic doors, octuple roof pipes exhaling prismatic exhaust. When the fare slot swallowed two fire-coins, Tom glimpsed black marketeers saluting with prosthetic arms – celebratory steam fireworks dyed twilight gold and silver.
"Welcome aboard Imperial Transit Line 7," chimed the mechanized female voice. Ceramic tires clattered over rail joints as the bus accelerated. Tom's sword hilt radiated faint warmth, like lingering embers from the elemental storm.

rk900/gavin reed. saw it out in the wild today somewhere.
LMAO I’m actually not *opposed* to it but y’all already know my feelings about RK900. I do appreciate the fandom’s hand-waving of canon, though--of course Connor is still alive, of course he wasn’t replaced by the newer more sociopathic model.
And I’d say that RK900/Gavin actually makes a lot of sense, especially alongside Hannor. Both Connor and Nines are programmed to be “the perfect partner”--but they both find theirs in Hank and Gavin respectively.
So I’d say I’m on board with it but it doesn’t really give me any feelings in particular. It’s not hot or interesting to me.

*shrug*
Can’t fault people for liking a ship at face value. It’s not my thing, and I really hate what I’ve seen of it, but. I don’t want to be a jerk about it, y’know?
