An antique and authentic vintage cotton and wool hand carders. Superbly unique farm tool dating from the early 1800s. Carder (also known as comber or devil) is used for carding sheeps' wool after shearing. It is a process prior to spinning the wool into lengths of yarn. On the front side of the carder there is pigskin with spikes on it secured by tin with nails . The spikes go through the pigskin part. Size: The card itself: 27 cm x 21 cm | 10.6 inches x 8.3 inches Length of handle: 7.9 inches With this tool the wool becomes clean of seeds, thorns, pieces of sheep's excrements or anything else that could have stuck to it. The wool material becomes softer and easier to work with.
