This is pretty impressive honour to be awarded this by TIFF. Could really be a dark horse in the best actor race ( so far the front runners being cillian and leo) also thankfully being from toronto, I got (free) tickets to see rustin at TIFF.

Are the Academy Awards still accepting films from streaming services in the race? Cuz I could have sworn that I read somewhere that after this past year, they aren't going to be doing that anymore. But someone can correct me if I'm wrong. Or, I should rephrase that... I think the terms are the film HAS to be released in theaters for at least a certain amount of time in order to be considered. But someone let me know if I misunderstood.

'...Speaking of Barbenheimer, autumn may be upon us, but the double-feature phenomenon of the summer will be the best thing to happen to the Oscars. The Academy should start painting the Dolby Theatre pink now, and installing a makeshift Los Alamos onstage. In several key races Greta Gerwig’s existential comedy will battle Christopher Nolan’s biopic about the man who created a technology that could bring about the end of civilization. It helps that unlike past Oscar telecasts, most people may have actually seen some of the top contenders...

Toronto Film Festival 2023

Il Toronto International Film Festival con la sua edizione del 2023, prevista dal  7 al 17 settembre, ha lo scopo di mostrare il meglio del cinema indipendente, grazie alla sua lista di film. Alexander Payne, Richard Linklater, Kore-eda Hirokazu e Justine Triet sono tra gli autori che proporranno i loro ultimi lavori al festival, infatti Payne sarà presente con The Holdovers, una commedia ambientata in un collegio, che lo riunisce con la star di Sideways Paul Giamatti, mentre Linklater  avrà Hitman, una commedia d’azione con Glen Powell e Adria Arjona.  Inoltre Kore-eda e Triet proietteranno Monster e Anatomy of a Fall, entrambi presentati in anteprima a Cannes, dove quest’ultimo ha vinto la Palma d’oro. La prima ondata di selezioni del festival vede 60 film, in rappresentanza di 70 paesi in tutto il mondo ed è notevole nella sua mancanza di anteprime annunciate come Dune: Part 2 o l’adattamento musicale di The Color Purple, un segno che alcuni di questi film potrebbero spostare le loro date di uscita se gli scioperi degli attori e degli sceneggiatori si estendessero all’autunno, dato che gli studi cinematografici sono preoccupati di portare questi film se gli attori che vi recitano sono in sciopero e non possono promuovere il loro lavoro. Se alcune star stanno lavorando per ottenere deroghe da SAG-AFTRA gli altri studi indipendenti stanno solo portando avanti i loro piani di rilascio, sperando che venga raggiunta una risoluzione prima di far debuttare i film. Ma questo non vuol dire che il TIFF sarà privo di anteprime importanti come Dumb Money di Craig Gillespie, una dramedy sul GameStop di Sony, così come diversi film Netflix come Rustin di George C. Wolfe, Pain Hustlers di David Yates e Nyad di Elizabeth Chai Vasarhelyi e Jimmy Chin, che saranno tutti proiettati al festival. Apple porterà Flora and Son, un dramma musicale del regista di Sing Street John Carney, dopo averlo acquistato dal Sundance per $ 20 milioni e ci saranno diversi film di registi noti per il loro lavoro davanti alla macchina da presa, tra cui Michael Keaton (Knox Goes Away), Chris Pine (Poolman), Anna Kendrick (Woman of the Hour) e Viggo Mortensen (The Dead Don’t Hurt) mentre  Ethan Hawke porterà la sua ultima fatica da regista Wildcat, che vede protagonista sua figlia, Maya Hawke come la scrittrice Flannery O’Connor. I sostenitori del festival hanno sottolineato che hanno intenzione di continuare con i loro piani e in una dichiarazione il CEO del TIFF Cameron Bailey ha sottolineato l’ampiezza della lineup.
