Applause sounds as the performance comes to an end, hands meeting with enthusiasm for the work of Mondstadt's songbird. Though he can feel the glare of the tavern's proprietor on his neck, he ignores it to watch her, trusting that the treaties in place will enough to still the uncrowned King's temper. Instead he wanders over and bows his head in greeting, offering a pouch of money to her. "Exquisite. Truly exquisite. Your work belongs on the grand stages of the world, this is but a token of my appreciation."

the nighingale had known of the arrival of the 11th harbinger the moment he crossed the stone gate's threshold. a new face in the angel's share stands out to her. ( a handsome face with orange hair and lifeless blue eyes. )

her smile is perfectly composed when he approaches her, her face nor voice betraying any disdain or dislike.

"thank you for your patronage, darling~" her slender fingers take the money offered. this too- is a performance. hardly anyone knows the nightingale's true face, and this is why she can get away with taking money from a harbinger. "truthfully- i've only recently returned to mondstadt after traveling abroad and honing my craft, for many years. while i once enjoyed a rather comfortable residency as a primadonna in fontaine's operatic circles, truth be told, i prefer the energy of my home city." with that, she laughs- like she's slightly embarrassed and humbled. "but i am fortunate to have been blessed by lord barbatos with the skill and talent and on the stage and for song."

diluc's glowering expression is far more intriguing than the harbinger's seemingly genuine appreciation of her skills. the way he seems to be glaring daggers into the skull of the harbinger- the way he keeps cleaning the same wine glass over and over-how odd. diluc continues to confuses her with his actions and emotions. she'll one of her wings monitor the situation- but it's quite fun to be the star of the show, in the moment.

viktoriya takes a sip of her wine, then rests a free hand gently atop the harbinger's exposed arm, staring into his eyes with a coy smile on her lips. "with you being my generous benefactor of the evening, allow me to dedicate my next song to you." she lightly drags her fingers along his forearm, lifting them at his wrist and coming to rest that hand near the plunging neckline of her blouse. "a proper dedication must always have a name to start, so tell me, what's your name, darling~?"

☕🐌 Started off today with what I like to call a "divine story revelation," where, seemingly out of the blue, some puzzle pieces for one of my personal stories suddenly click together. 🧩 And it was Anthology of Anon related, which tends to be more on the rare side, nowadays, to boot!

It's something I could get a little tangential with, I think. So...! Tangent below the cut.~

This revelation references the whole ascendant memories thing. (Yes, I decided to roll with "ascendant" vs. ancestral - it sounds cooler, haha!)

To summarize, it suddenly dawned on me why it is that Sal ends up getting involved with a program known as "Violet." (It's a long story... I can explain it in another tangential post at a later date, if people want to know more.) In short, it's a program dedicated to the study of various forms of cognitive visualization, including dreams. I realized she wanted to finally understand (to the best of her ability, anyway) what was up with all those funky recurring dreams she'd been having for most of her life. It was via acquaintances made in that department that she was eventually introduced to the concept of ascendant memories in Ethereals.

✨ End revelation. ✨ However, this is a tangent, so I must get carried away...

I then proceeded to think about how many years she likely poured into putting the accuracy of those "dreams" to the test - which is to say: thinking about all the time that was taken to not only record those "dreams" to the best of her ability, but to also eventually track down/happen upon the supposed locations of some of them to discover whether or not they were really memories vs. dreams.

Sal has quite a few years under her belt... it's cool to think about how so many of them were actually rather active, even in the background, pursuing that kind of "research." AND it lends itself to the wayfaring lifestyle too. She has... so many reasons why she wanders... and that's one of them. I imagine even though she was able to discover that some of those dreams were, in fact, memories, that there are many she has yet to find too (excusing that particular one that is very much a heavy story beat, tied to Vance and whatnot, of course.)

All of that said, I don't talk about it much as it's something that is likely highly inaccessible to other characters, but it's always been an interesting tidbit to note about her: Sal has a journal (or many, by now) dedicated to recording dreams - full of notes and scribbles that will just come off as nonsensical and/or mysterious to any who may, by some ghost of a chance, get their hands on it/them. She may divulge information on ascendant memories with others who may somehow find a way to ask about them, but I'm not entirely sure she'd be all that open to sharing her ascendant memories, specifically, so... just a little something special for others to come across/hear about one day, should they ever come up or - the absolute rarity: she actually shows one of those journals!

with haruka, you're usually the one that has to initiate physical affection. he definitely wants to hold your hand, it's just that whenever you slip your palm into his and he feels how warm you are, his face turns so red he looks like one of the tomatoes umemiya's growing on the roof. at least that's what suo always loves to tease him and say, which only serves to make haruka threaten to beat him up in the middle of the street. but then he'll remember that you're beside him and he'll settle for giving suo the most intense death glare ever, only to give you a small smile as he turns to you and squeezes your hand ever so gently. haruka always treats you like you're a fragile flower, so he holds your hand with the utmost care and pride, because he's really proud to be able to call himself your boyfriend.

hayato thinks he's so cool. he's so suave, always slipping his fingers between yours when you're walking together until your hands are intertwined without you even realising it. and if you get embarrassed, he'll only smirk and tease you about how you look so cute when you're flustered. he's the type to confidently walk about town swinging your hand with his, telling everyone who asks that you're his partner. i feel like hayato would also wear matching rings with you, and whenever he caresses his ring before a fight it's like he can feel the sensation of your hand in his, and that reminds him that he can't injure his hands or he won't be able to hold you, so he's always extra careful ever since he started dating you.

togame likes taking things slow instead of rushing through life, so whenever he holds your hand, you somehow end up feeling like a precious gem that he treasures with all his heart. that isn't actually too far from how he views you, because the way this man holds your hand is so incredibly gentle. even though his hands are rough and calloused, he'll slip his hand into yours and it feels like he's really savouring the moment, enjoying the way your hand fits in his like two puzzle pieces slotting together perfectly. he's sometimes worried that you won't want to hold his hand when his knuckles are bloodied or scraped from fights, but just a press a kiss to his battered knuckles and togame will be putty in your hands.

[ umemiya hajime ! ]

umemiya adores you. it's evident to everyone, from the students at bofurin to the townsfolk, and it's especially obvious in the way that he looks at you. when you hold his hand, his eyes light up like a million stars, and he narrowly refrains from actually jumping up and down like a little kid (hiragi convinces him that's a little too undignified for bofurin's leader). he always ends up unconsciously squeezing your hand when he's excited, or when he's deep in thought, or anytime, really. he just needs that reminder of your presence and it feels like he'll be able to solve any problem that comes his way. whenever he walks you home, umemiya will also always kiss the back of your hand like he's a prince courting a suitor and give you a dramatic goodbye, it's just one of the things you love about him too.
