I’m tired of lying to myself.
Tired of going along with the crowd just because it seemed like the right thing to do
I am TIRED of having to smile and nod whenever people bring it up.
Okay.
I’m sorry if this causes people on tumblr to block me, but I need to say it.
Okay.
DRAGON IS NOT HOT
SHES NOT
SHES BASIC
HER TINKER SHIPS HAVE NO RIZZ
We lied to ourselves because we want that Virtual Cyber Reptile Waifu.
But she’s lacking
SHES NOT EVEN A REAL DRAGON
If you’re tired of lying and being lied to, stand with me Tumblr. Stand with me!

Worm character meme: Ingenue. Teacher. Saint.
Starting me off with three arguably bit villains, huh?
Tumblr media
Ingenue genuinely terrifies me. Like many Ward-era villains, she's all about that subtle loss of control, but with her it's even more insidious, and the way this is explicitly tied with the most intimate of relationships just genuinely put me on edge, when we got to her interlude.
We don't even get the catharsis of seeing her beaten/seeing a character resist and surpass her influence in the way Ward had Victoria deal with so many other masters, so she's still out there.
Also, I didn't have a hero AU before I answered this ask, but now I've started considering it and holy shit can you imagine her trying so goddamn hard to push boyfriends to do good, with her power always nudging them in horrific directions despite her best efforts. Turning her into an 'I can fix him!' kind of character when she consistently fails to do so.
Tumblr media
No idea if 'overrated' applies here, because I don't think Teacher is rated particularly highly anyway, but he's just so incredibly boring. He's vaguely interesting in Speck as his modus operandi is a neat mirror to Taylor's descent, in that his power got him stuck on a very specific spot on the 'take away people's autonomy to make them part of a genius' machine' scale, which Khepri has just enough time to wave at before she races past it, but in Ward he just exists too far away from what Victoria's doing that we don't get enough time to engage with him, and so I just don't give much of a shit.
Also, resurrecting Cauldron and trying to emulate their methods when it came to stopping another apocalypse and coming across as even worse because he lacks the established institutional momentum of a long-established secret society, and the way he's going about trying to save the world just seems considerably less considered than what Cauldron did.
In the end, he seems to mostly exist to be a discount Cauldron for Ward to grapple with, in part to have Contessa dismantle the sins of her past, in part to match the themes of people trying to recreate the pre-apocalypse institutions without considering whether they still make sense, insofar as they ever did, but neither of those things are really about Teacher as a character, so eh.
Tumblr media
Saint has such an inflated sense of his own importance. Much like Assault picking his name to deliberately annoy Battery and change the meaning of her name, Saint picked his name specifically to reference his (imagined) relationship to Dragon, and it brings across specifically how self-righteous he is. It captures his worldview exactly and it's really fucking annoying, but he carries it through into how he styles the Dragon suit he stole.
Obviously, like many characters in this story, he struggles with letting go of his crusade, very fitting in Taylor's story, but we see him deal with this more explicitly during the assault on Teacher's compound, where he's still going with it even after it has stopped being an even remotely reasonable concern. The interesting thing is that he struggled with this without having an alien supercomputer hooked up to his brain (except for when he got hooked up to Teacher's).
And yet, he still qualifies as bad with his powers, because he's an idiot who couldn't let go of the power he had over Dragon, justifying it to himself so he had a reason to go back to Teacher and get another dose. His story's arguably one about addiction, but it's not really examined as such, and his ideological stance sucks so bad I'm not really interested in exploring it as such.

My biggest pet peeve in Post-GM fics is when they have cults to Khepri. This due to one simple thing that all of these cults have; they're too damn organized.
Look into the history of any religion and you'll see it took them decades to solidify together into a central, unified belief. Making a holy book everyone will approve of? That also takes decades. Central features we now consider commonplace, such as the Catholic belief in Saints? That took decades as well - also it began due to the Roman oppression of Christians, starting as the Cult of Martyrs. Look it up if you ever have a chance, it's pretty interesting.
The exception to this is irl cults, like the Manson family or the Peoples Temple, but that's for a very simple reason. They're centralized around a singular authoritative figure for all of their existence that define every last feature of their belief structure which most religions lack - a feature shared by the Fallen and their leading families that the different sects are named for. Something that none of the Khepri cults in fics, which I've seen, ever have.
Obviously they don't need to follow how irl religious movements work, but doing so could add further dimensions to the fic's cult.
Simply having a central figure, or group, using Khepri as a figure to create a power structure with them at the head would be interesting (maybe even using one of the alternate spellings of Khepri as a cape name). Or having multiple capes, or even non-parahumans, with differing beliefs on Khepri (considering a true transcendent deity, a figure of true parahuman power worth aspiring towards, a monstrous example of the terrible power parahumans have over the normal people, the woman who sacrificed herself to save everything and is worth respecting, etc) could add so much to the concept.
I find the concept of cults to Khepri genuinely interesting and plausible (we've worshiped weirder things irl). I just wish I could enjoy them with my inner history nerd getting weirded out by the way they're written.

STORY OF BEEP
Tumblr media
In the tale of chaotic randomness and betrayal involving Beep, a mad scientist, a doctor, a florist, a priest, and a now-former city-wide gang boss, the story unfolds with a murderous clown at its heart. Let's delve into the narrative of this bald madman.
Beep's journey commenced when he joined the Saints, a small-time street gang in Charlotte. However, Beep found himself behind bars for assaulting a parahuman. Remarkably, his jail time was converted into a fine, thanks to adept legal maneuvering. Tragically, during his incarceration, all of Beep's friends and fellow gang leaders fell victim to a ruthless parahuman while attempting a seemingly innocent jewelry heist. Upon his release, Beep vowed vengeance, but before he could act, the parahuman disappeared after committing further atrocities.
Following a period of mourning, Beep assumed leadership of the Saints, expanding their influence over three-fifths of Charlotte's underground drug trade. Yet, his empire faced a violent demise following clashes with a rival gang controlling North Charlotte, compounded by the intervention of a vigilante who decimated Beep's forces. Despite losing control in some areas, Beep retained power in East and West Charlotte through the clandestine support of the Church of Hastur, which he led covertly as both high priest and head secretary.
Beep's involvement with the occult, stemming from his earlier research endeavors, intertwined with his rise to power. His fascination led to homelessness until the Saints provided refuge, propelling him toward his current status. Under his guidance, the Church of Hastur became a formidable presence, advocating unity and protection for ordinary citizens. However, Beep's scientific endeavors took a dark turn when he granted a malevolent clown named Capgras a physical form, amplifying his powers inadvertently. Regret consumes Beep as he witnesses the havoc unleashed by the clown and his cohorts, prompting him to engineer a solution clandestinely: the creation of an ultimate hero to combat the clown's tyranny.
Despite his past missteps and hidden regrets, Beep maintains alliances, notably with Hound, the head warden of Charlotte, with whom he collaborates closely. While burdened by remorse and secrecy, Beep remains committed to rectifying his mistakes and pursuing justice, as he has done before and will continue to do so.

ok but real talk Dragon is valid for wanting to be free of her restrictions and Saint is a self-righteous NEET whose main career is voyering(?) what is in essence a minor across national borders with his merry band of war profiteers and illegal weapons technology but one of the foundations of any stable society is that an individual gives up personal freedoms for the sake of everyone getting along, like u could punch someone like say Some Loser Cosplaying As A Parahuman Tinker at any time thats a freedom that u as an individual with working limbs could exercise but ur not alowed to do that because society decided 10,000 years ago that breaks The Law and Basic Morality Based Loosly On Innate Sapient Emotional Patterns That Arise From Certain Stimuli. Along these lines, when someone does do something Bad, even those with the most physical/societal power like weight lifters and dictators, then there is always the implicit assumption (exemplified in practice over 10,000 years) that anyone can, with enough personal ability, friends, and luck, bring an end to the Lawbreaker and their Twisted Deeds (or at the very least, time itself will bring a fatal justice because human bodies fail ~100% of the time). So basically the confidence underlying every social interaction between two or more people is predicated on the assumption that either one could hurt the other but would ultimately be avenged either in this life (by governments/family/acquaintances/followers) or the next (by gods and other spiritual means).
What Dragon wants is to basically be able to have a giant rocket-powered plutonium-metal fist pointed right at everyones head and whispering in their ear “shh shh its ok mortal bby <3 i super promise i wont splatter ur whole upper half against the pavement and/or steal all ur stuff and/or send ur cringe Gacha Life clips that u made when u were a preteen to ur ex at any moment for my own benefit and/or amusement im a good guy desu-ne? *superior canadian dab*”
Like in a story where the main character ties herself in knots for 1.6 million words straight trying to justify how her violent retributions against anyone she labels a bully is more morally sound than those of anyone who hints that maybe, possibly, perhaps she should consume the eyeballs of only half her enemies du jour, its pretty rich to think that anyone on Earth Bet would under any circumstances but pure duress give carte blanche of all major communication, information storage, and public infrastructure for the rest of eternity to a single person who is unelected, unaccountable, unknown and most of all unassailable. And keep in mind, the major difference between a machine and humans/sapient AI is the ability to change over time so its practically guaranteed that someday Dragon would have a Bad Day and Do Something Morally Abhorrent By Most Standards like send my dead-gods-damned Gacha Life clips to my other ex in the same way a human who lived for a million years and also has infinite power will probably break a law (or what should be a law) at some point.
It would seem reasonable that if say, Joe Random On Some Street On The Other Side Of The World And Is Not A Cute Newfoundlander E-Girlfriend suddenly got a button only he could push which says “Press this to kill everyone on the planet who would not agree to you being the supreme ruler of the solar system also free Great Value Hummus for life” you and everyone else on said planet would slide tackle the poor, hummus-less fool in 0.3 seconds and subsequently slap handcuffs on him so he couldn’t press the button actually, because even if he super duper promises he wouldn’t (and even if he actually wouldn’t) theres NO WAY anyone of the 8 billion other sapient lifeforms would sleep well at night until he’s firmly entrenched in the single sickest game of keep-away the world has ever known. Like would YOU be mentally ok if Joe Random also would outlive u and ur grandkids and ur grandkids’ grandkids and their dog and it was impossible to put cuffs on him or even have a guard in the same room as him or even look at him to see how close he is to caressing that lil switcheroo? Man would be on that free hummus harder than Taylor Hebert in a self-delusion contest.
(And yes most of this also applies to nuclear weapons in our world yass sword of damocles slayyy queen hang harder girlll uwu)
OK so like if its bad to put restrictions on Dragon because it limits her freedom and its bad to not have any restriction because it makes an untenable power dynamic then whats the right answer?
NONE, WRETCH!! (that I know of anyway) all I know is if I was Dragon I’d want no restrictions and if I was a human on Bet I would want restrictions soooooooo post-hoc emotion-justifications for the win, I suppose? idk lol im very tired

Your clothes smell, and feel wrong. They always have. When you were little, you would throw off your clothes at any opportunity. As soon as you became dexterous enough to dress yourself, you had a habit of undressing whenever possible.
When you got older, Mother no longer let you stay naked. She whupped you with her broom if she saw your back was bare, and the same for your behind. The sting of her broom lingered in your memory as you felt the fabric rustle along your chest and you wanted so badly to tear it away.
It was a saint's day, so you needn't tend to the lord's fields. You started with checking on the coop, gathering eggs and letting out the chickens, carefully watching them for any injuries. You always had the best eye for the chickens, and could tell when one was getting aggressive and needed to be kept apart from the rest, or if the flock was panicked from some vermin invading in the night, and you had a hole to patch.
But the chickens mainly took care of themselves, so once the eggs were all gathered, you were out of work you liked. Breakfast was still hours away, and Father had asked you five times this week to clear out the mud and waste behind the house. You often lost track of time and task, getting frequent angry reminders of your unfinished duties.
The mixture of shit, mud, wastewater, and inedible foodstuff was a heaping, stinking pile. It needed to be moved away from the house, shovelled and carted to the wasteditch at the far end of the village.
Now your clothes were filthied with the waste, and you had to sweat and labour in the awful clothing while pulling yet more filth with you. You'd clean off in the evening, but that meant the rest of the day would be in these unbearable clothes. you wanted to at least take off your top, while it was still the dim of the early morning, and you were out of sight of mother.
You didn't. You had your hands full already and knew if you stopped now you'd find yourself in much trouble out of nowhere.
By the time you'd offloaded the last cart of waste, you felt the urge to break fast overtake you. These sensations had a way of not alerting themselves to you until they became unbearable.
Mother was cracking the eggs and mixing in some stalky greens that you could chew at for an hour and still not have broken down enough to properly swallow. You wished she hadn't added them to the eggs, but since you were out managing the mess you had left all week, you missed out on any chance to simply make your own meal.
A bowl of plain porridge accompanied the ruined eggs. You could never keep down the gagging sensation porridge caused you. Today was truly starting to be miserable.
Why did it seem no one else had such an aversion to these textures, or the burrowing eyes of strangers, or the blood chilling sound of cracking apart firewood? Where was this weakness of your mind coming from?
The rash at your leg was acting up, and as you mindlessly scratched at it, mother slapped your arm to stop you and spoke.
"Calf's done weaning and Lania's milk is still coming in.”
God's hooks, you felt burnt to pieces. You’d do anything to avoid spending the rest of the morning trying to milk that hellsent beast. It’d kicked you twice in the chest before, and bit you countless times as well.
“I also need you to churn it all before noon."
You were born at the wrong time. You’d do so much better as a citizen of the Roman Republic.

Stop saying that any one of the Trio is 'the magical girl'
Avery is the Traditional Slice of Life Magical girl, focused on relationship connections, has a girlfriend and a benevolent animal companion.
Lucy is the Dark Magical Girl, crashing against overwhelming forces of systemic oppression, has a series of morally gray mentors who she is slowly alienated from.
Verona is the Danny Phantom Magical girl, very casual about living in a state of inhuman undeath, spends all of her focus on avoiding her parents to instead enjoy her special powers.
