Golden Week Winds Down: DDT, STARDOM, Dragon Gate Results; Hayato “Jr.” Fujita Announces Return to Wrestling After 5 Years Away; NJPW Strong Episode 89 - 5/7/2022
Golden Week is winding down, and as far as the scope of this particular blog, a little slower weekend as far as major shows in Japan. Which is good, because I need to breathe sometimes too! NOAH was originally scheduled to have a show Saturday but that got cancelled due to earthquake activity in Fukushima. There have been shows, however!
Tumblr media
DDT / Tokyo Joshi
DDT held a couple of shows over this weekend.
DDT Audience 2022 Tour In Shinjuku - 5/6/2022, Tokyo Shinjuku FACE (Wrestle Universe)
Jun Akiyama, Yusuke Okada & Yuya Koroku [Burning] d. Yuji Hino, Yukio Naya & Yuki Ishida (Koroku > Ishida, Chickenwing, 12:25)

Children’s Day Special! DDTeeeen!! Challenge Match: Yuki Ueno [The 37KAMIINA] d. Ilusion (Frog Splash, 7:48)
Children’s Day Special! DDTeeeen!! Challenge Match: Tetsuya Endo [Burning] d. El Unicorn (Swivel Torture Rack Bomb, 14:14)
46th KO-D 6-Man Tag Team Champions Tournament 1st Round: Kazusada Higuchi, Yukio Sakaguchi & Hideki Okatani [Eruption] d. Akito, Hikaru Machida & Thanomsak Toba (Okatani > Toba, Northern Lights Suplex, 12:19)
46th KO-D 6-Man Tag Team Champions Tournament 1st Round: Daisuke Sasaki, MJ Paul & KANON [DAMNATION TA] d. HARASHIMA, Toru Owashi & Naomi Yoshimura [DISASTER BOX] (Sasaki > Yoshimura, La Mistica, 18:18)
Chris Brookes & Masahiro Takanashi d. MAO & Shunma Katsumata [The 37KAMIINA] (Takanashi > Katsumata, Everclear, 18:42)
CDK get a win leading into the various title challenges between them and The 37KAMIINA coming up. It comes down to Eruption v. DAMNATION TA to become the next KO-D 6-man tag champions. The current DDT generation get opportunities against the participants of the last KO-D Openweight title match, but come up short in both cases.
DDT FRIED Yamada Festival Is It Fried! - 5/8/2022, Kagoshima Shibushi City Unagi Station
Hideki Okatani [Eruption] d. Kazuiki Hirata (Double Arm Suplex, 8:51)
3-Way Tag Match: Sanshiro Takagi & Toru Owashi [DISASTER BOX] d. Yuki Iino & Danshoku Dino [Pheromones] and Chris Brookes & Saki Akai [Eruption] (Takagi > Dino, Sanshiro Stunner, 11:56)

Tetsuya Endo [Burning], Jun Akiyama [Burning] & Naomi Yoshimura [DISASTER BOX] d. Shiro Koshinaka, MAO [The 37KAMIINA] & Toi Kojima [The 37KAMIINA] (Endo > Kojima, Swivel Torture Rack Bomb, 13:39)
FRIED Yamada Festival Deep Fried Food! Special 6-Man Tag Match: Shishamo Power, Unagi Power & HARASHIMA [DISASTER BOX] d. Yuji Hino, Yukio Naya & Akito (Shishamo > Akito, Fisherman Suplex, 20:06)
A special show sponsored by Yamada Fisheries. It’s a thing.
Both Konosuke Takeshita and Yuka Sakazaki lost their AEW Rampage matches. Takeshita was expected, and he is having some matches on the US indies coming up that are pretty mouthwatering. Sakazaki, I am not sure what the point of flying her in special to lose to Riho in a tournament qualifier was.

This week’s NJPW Strong were matches from Lonestar Shootout in Dallas during Mania Weekend. I’ve already posted results here, but now that it has aired, why not post again.
Hikuleo & Chris Bey [Bullet Club] d. Bateman & Barrett Brown [Stray Dog Army] (Hikuleo > Brown, Chokeslam, 12:16)
JONAH d. Blake Christian (Tsunami, 6:56)
“Filthy” Tom Lawlor, Royce Isaacs & JR Kratos [Team Filthy] d. Fred Rosser, Alex Coughlin & The DKC (Isaacs > DKC, Super Powerslam, 11:12)
In other NJPWWorld news, Friday’s TAKA Taichi Mania 2.5 event is now on NJPWWorld, but as a PPV event for about $24. At some point NJPWWorld decided to pivot to PPV events for actual monies. Windy City Riot was one, and both Capital Collision and the Tatsumi Fujinami 50th Anniversary event (that Fujinami himself can’t wrestle at now) are also such events.
For free, on the other hand, is the 60th Anniversary of Korakuen Hall event that was a join NJPW/AJPW show, so go check that out. (Well, free, with a subscription).
Other News
Earlier today in Michinoku Pro, wrestler Hayato “Jr.” Fujita made his first appearance in a ring in almost five years. He suffered a knee injury in 2017, and whilst recovering, a cancerous tumor was discovered on his spinal cord in 2018. He has been recovering from these ever since. Today, he announced he will be returning to the ring, and challenged MUSASHI for the Tohoku Junior title.
Tenryu Project ran a special charity show on Saturday from Tokyo that had only two matches, but also a “talk battle” between Genichiro Tenryu, Kenta Kobashi and Akira Taue.
ZERO1 also ran another anti-bullying charity show in Niigata Saturday.
Sendai Girls ran shows this weekend, featuring matches against Prominence talents, as that promotion looks to make war with every joshi company imaginable.
AEW’s Hikaru Shida was a surprise wrestler at OZ Academy’s show at Shinjuku FACE earlier today.
BURST ran their first anniversary show today in Saga Kanzaki Base, featuring talents from AJPW, BJW and other promotions.
I don’t see a lot of shows happening by Tuesday, so Tuesday’s post may just be an Upcoming Events one. There definitely will be one this week.

💁‍♀️ What is your favorite thing about playing each of your main five muses?
¿De cada personaje? A ver:

I will post a bunch of stuff about it in a bit (still unpacking, jet lagged, etc), but as a baseline, here are the shows I attended while I was there, courtesy of Cagematch. I thought 10 shows was a lot, but I met a bunch of fans from overseas who were going to 20+. If it wasn’t clear before, it should be now: I am a fake wrestling fan. Show Rating: 5/10
Fun main event saved what was a lukewarm show from DDT. The tag title match had its moments in the closing stretch but overall under delivered on expectations. Stream cut out on matches two and three but saw the majority of each as well as the finishes. They opened and closed the show strong so I give the show a pass. If you enjoy comedy wrestling then the main event is sure to get several laughs and is recommended.
Match of the Night: Konosuke Takeshita © vs Colt Cabana

DDT Ultimate Tag League 2022 Finals 2/27/2022; DDT Judgement & TJPW Grand Princess ‘22 Full Cards; Dragon Gate, NOAH, AJPW, STARDOM Results; NJPW Strong Episode 80 - 2/26/2022
Tumblr media
DDT / Tokyo Joshi
The winners of the Ultimate Tag League 2022, as well as the new KO-D Tag Team Champions, have now been determined. The Final was held today at Tokyo Korakuen Hall, and you can see it now on Wrestle Universe. Antonio Honda was off this show despite a negative test, as he appears to just be ill, however Toi Kojima tested positive, so he was also off this one. Matches were changed accordingly.
DDT Ultimate Tag League 2022 The Final!! - 2/27/2022, Tokyo Korakuen Hall (Wrestle Universe)
Yusuke Okada [Burning] d. Yuki Ishida (Boston Crab, 6:34)
Danshoku Dino [Pheromones] NC Hiroshi Yamato (5:44)

Ultimate Tag League 2022 B Block: Chris Brookes & Masahiro Takanashi d. Shunma Katsumata & MAO [The 37KAMIINA] (Brookes > Katsumata, Praying Mantis Bomb, 7:03)
Ultimate Tag League 2022 B Block: HARASHIMA & Naomi Yoshimura [DISASTER BOX] d. Yuki Iino & Yumehito Imanari [Pheromones] (HARASHIMA > Iino, Forward Rolling Cradle, 12:30)
Ultimate Tag League 2022 A Block: Konosuke Takeshita & Yuki Ueno [The 37KAMIINA] d. Tetsuya Endo & Jun Akiyama [Burning] (Takeshita > Endo, Plus Ultra, 24:09)
Daisuke Sasaki, Minoru Fujita & MJ Paul [DAMNATION TA] d. Yuji Hino, Akito & Yukio Naya (Sasaki > Akito, La Mistica, 13:23)
Sanshiro Takagi & Maya Yukihi d. Yukio Sakaguchi & Saki Akai [Eruption] (Yukihi > Akai, Snowton Bomb, 12:23)
Ultimate Tag League 2022 Final: HARASHIMA & Naomi Yoshimura [DISASTER BOX] d. Konosuke Takeshita & Yuki Ueno [The 37KAMIINA] (Yoshimura > Ueno, Shonenba, 20:14) - HARASHIMA/Yoshimura win the Ultimate Tag League 2022 - HARASHIMA/Yoshimura are the 72nd KO-D Tag Team Champions
The perennial ace of DDT and partner Yoshimura win the League, and the titles they vacated at the start of the tournament. They had to beat Pheromones in order to get there. Konosuke Takeshita got a direct win over his KO-D Openweight challenger for Judgement 2022, Tetsuya Endo, on his team’s way to the Final as well. So maybe Endo should like his chances at Ryogoku now, going by the rules of pro wrestling booking. Yoshimura challenged Brookes/Takanashi, who won the Asia Dream tag belts in ChocoPro yesterday, as the only team that beat DISASTER BOX in the league, so Yoshimura wants to set that right.
Final Ultimate Tag League 2022 Standings:
A Block Takeshita/Ueno – 6pts (3W 0D 1L) ***WINNER*** Akiyama/Endo – 6pts (3W 0D 1L) Hino/Naya – 4pts (2W 0D 2L) Higuchi/Okatani – 2pts (1W 0D 3L) Kondo/Hirata – 0pts (0W 0D 4L)

It’s a show that will not only feaure a bunch of title matches, but also LiLiCo’s retirement, and a special 30th Anniversary match for Jun Akiyama.

Tokyo Joshi was yesterday from Osaka. Maki Itoh and Miyu Yamashita are now free and clear of COVID-19, so they were back on the card for this show.

It’s been noted this is the last time in TJPW that Nodoka Tenma and Marika Kobashi will be in Osaka. Maki Itoh said she burned the pasta that the Japanese government provided as a care package for COVID cases, but she ate it anyway so as not to waste taxpayers’ money.
In other TJPW news, the card for Grand Princess ’22, their own Sumo Hall supercard, has also been announced. More matches may get added to this. Besides the title matches, and the only singles match between the Bakuretsu Sisters before Nodoka Tenma’s retirement, Hikari Noa will face off against AEW’s Hikaru Shida.

Big Boss Shimizu [Natural Vibes], Dragon Dia & Yuki Yoshioka d. KAI, HYO & SB KENTo [Z-Brats] (Shimizu > KAI, Shotput Slam, 17:54)
Shimizu gets another direct win on KAI, in the Champions v. Challengers match, as HYO & SB KENTo challenged DiaYoshi for the Twin Gate titles on Wednesday. Takuma Fujiwara gets a TLD rub from an established roster guy, on his way to challenging for the Brave Gate belt on 3/5/2022. Apparently there were issues with the stream during the second match, so the on-demand is delayed a bit whilst they repair the video.
The next show is on Wednesday 3/3/2022 from Tokyo Korakuen Hall. Naruki Doi’s unit will reveal their name and colors here, and we get the second K-Ness tribute match as Jimmys reunites. In the meantime, on 3/4/2022, YAMATO will be at Ryukyu Dragon’s show from Tokyo Shinjuku FACE which will be on Twitcast. He and Gurukun Mask will be in a tag match against two deathmatch icons, Jun Kasai & Takashi Sasaki. Also, Natural Vibes’ Kzy & U-T challenge for Ryukyu Dragon’s tag belts held by Minoru Fujita & Churaumi Sabre.

Kenoh & Hajime Ohara [Kongo] d. Kaito Kiyomiya & Atsushi Kotoge (Ohara > Kotoge, Finnish Forearm, 20:12)
Ohara beats his former partner Kotoge. In other Kongo news, judging by the lineups I posted yesterday, it looks like ALEJA is now going by Alejandro, and is out of Kongo. You really do need a scorecard to keep up with this faction.
NOAH have a rest until Saturday 3/5/2022. I posted that schedule yesterday.

New Japan Pro Wrestling
Last night’s NJPW Strong was, in fact, the last from the New Beginning USA tapings, not last week’s like I erroneously thought. The main event was a title match.

NJPW Strong Openweight Championship: “Filthy” Tom Lawlor [Team Filthy] © d. Taylor Rust (Rear Naked Choke, 19:11) - Lawlor succeeds his 7th defense
Did anyone think this reign was going to go this long? Because I didn’t. It’s a good thing, honestly. I know Ethan HD on Twitter, hi Ethan.
Next week’s episode will start the Rivals series of tapings from last week in LA.
