#salesnostalgia from times past KKK, U.S. Marine, SFPD] Original mask. 37 X 71.5 cm., three sheets of yellow, green and white card taped together and folded with 3 hand-drawn faces in coloured felt pens with hand cut out eye and mouth holes. N.p. [Women Against Imperialism], n.d., circa 1980s #WomenAgainstImperialism was a very active radical, marxisant feminist group of agitators formed from the Women’s Caucus of the Bay Area Chapter of the #prairiefireorganizingcommittee Committee who were in turn an aboveground social and political movement in sympathy with / in support of / or grown from the infamous Third World Liberation group the Weather Underground Organization . The urban guerrillas published an important samizdat, non violent manifesto entitled Prairie Fire giving the PFOC both a name and an agenda. WAI was based in the Women’s Building at 3543 18th St and 8th. The historical note for WAI ’s deposit in San Francisco’s Freedom Archives describes them as a small, local, “grassroots, feminist, anti-imperialist solidarity organization formed in San Francisco in 1981” who used “..direct action organizing, political education activities, and internal political study”. They involved themselves in every cause going and especially the difficult ones like anti-KKK demos, the politics of sexual reproduction, torture victims, IRA hunger strikers, Pan-Africanism et al. Provenance: Women Against Imperialism via the radical trade.
