Beginning of My New Path
One and half weeks ago I was sitting in a restaurant in Oxford together with my boyfriend and two awesome friends from England. Now I’m laying in my comfy bed in Northwest of Finland and not sure how I should feel. The contrast to my life in England is huge.
My first week of Wilderness Guiding school is behind, and I’ve had hard times to believe that I’ll be here for the next 11 months, studying and exploring the Nordic nature.
Our first two days hiking trip to a wilderness hut in Keimiöjärvi area was interesting to say the least. Learning about the local flora, hiking up the fells (Sammaltunturi and Keimiötunturi) close by and doing improvisation practices with other students were eye-opening experiences. I felt like I was in the right place, sitting on top of soft moss in the middle of forest, while breathing the most clean air in Europe.
I know I’ll be getting to used to live back in Finland again, but after seven years of rushing between different countries, I feel restless. Staying still and be able to enjoy of it will take its time. Luckily I don’t need to rush with it.
A couple of things I know for sure - this school is anything else than boring or too easy. I’m very thankful to be part of this group and learn from everyone in it.
I’m pretty sure this place, with all its beauty and challenging weather conditions, will make me to leave my comfort zone, give me many emotional experiences, and allow me to get to know myself and the wilderness around me better.
