How do you think Jack would fare in a dreidel game (for chocolate coins) against the Jacobs kids?

I'm not 100% sure how dreidel works, so all information comes from Google.

According to Google, a good chunk of the newsies around 1899 were jewish, like 2/3 is what one source said, so what I choose to believe is that all of these newsies have led Jack to believe that Dreidel is a very serious game deeply important to their religion, and he has to do absolutely everything they say correctly. Jack's pretty sure there's something fishy here, seeing as its Snipeshooter who started all this, and Snipeshooter is usually lying to him, but he doesn't know enough for sure to argue.

Then he meets David and is like "finally, someone I can ask who isnt involved in pulling my leg", but Boots, who was in on the Drive Jack Bonkers Plot, got to David first and told him "just play along, and make up whatever you want".

So David is happy to play a prank on Jack, and he even gets Sarah in on it.

Jack finally figures it out when he makes a passing remark to Esther about how "he spent nine hours reading through their whole Torah thing and never saw cowboy hats mentioned once, so he's not sure why that's relevant to dreidel."

And Esther's like "...Jack...what?"

"You know, how if you roll it off the table you now gotta wear your hat over your eyes, but only if it's a cowboy hat."

She explains that, apparently, everyone has been lying to him, including all the non-Jewish kids, who of course wanted in on the plot as soon as they found out.

"Thought your father taught you not to LIE, DAVE!"

That's how Jack and Sarah "break up" for the first time, which Jack refers to as "the worst 30 seconds of his life, including the time he licked a drainage pipe in January and got his tongue stuck."

Newsie Girls Week : Sarah Jacobs, and why I love her.

My femininity has always been something I have struggled with, because I don't want to be seen as weak or useless. I always said I hated pink as a little kid, but now I really love the color.

Characters like Sarah show that you can be soft, you can be gentle, you can wear your skirts and make your lace and curl your hair and be kind.

That does not make you weak, or useless, or stupid. It makes you a soft, gentle, loving person, which is one of the most difficult things to be in such a cruel world.

Think about Jack Kelly.

He has suffered. He lost his family, works to support himself, though he is still a child, and though it's not explicitly stated, we all can agree abuse happens in the Refuge.

Sarah is perfect for this boy. She is sweet, she is kind, she is gentle, she is loving.

She's not a pushover, as we see when she punches a Delancey brother in the face, but she is never once cruel to anyone.

She is hardworking, she is sometimes childish and innocent in a wonderful, beautiful way.

The greatest accomplishment I have ever achieved in my life was having one of the freshmen in band tell me that I was "the only senior nobody was scared of".

I was "the kindest CIT (Counselor In Training)" when I volunteered at a summer camp.

You don't have to be tough and harsh and cruel to be worthwhile.

If hurting people is feminism, I do not want it.

I want gentleness. I want love. I want family and friends and to never be known as cruel.

I want to be Sarah Jacobs.
