So I’ve played a BUNCHA NEW BOARD GAMES I recommend. The connecting theme is these all take 60-120 minutes to play, these are BIG UNS that will take up most of your game night.
Tumblr media
Lizard Wizard! The game of wizards who are lizards! This is a stocks based game that’s the evolution of the game Raccoon Tycoon. You are all archmages who gather and sell reagents (stocks), bid for wizards, buy towers, grab familiars, cast spells, delve into the dungeon, there’s a lot! The art is fantastic and the components and cards are all high quality so it feels great to play. I will say the game drags in the last third, having 5ish schools of magic would be better than 7 speeding up the game. The dungeon deck is also a lil too loaded with monsters and not worth the risk. However. These are all easy changes you can make to the game removing a few cards here and there to rebalance it. The core game is great! You manipulate the market to cash out big and control wizard bids while trying to gain other minor bonuses. Its just a touch bloated in length and if the art draws you in and the market-based gameplay sounds neat check it out!
Tumblr media
I highly recommend Terraforming Mars. Lots of modern games have an issue of being multiplayer solitaire. Terraforming Mars has some great sabotage mechanics and scoring rules for laying tiles on Mars that make it engaging. You have six resources: credits, steel, titanium, plants, energy, and heat. You have units of these resources and production of these units. This is a resource management game where you need to fully terraform Mars by laying down all ocean tiles, upping heat, and upping oxygen. I found it interesting that the optional awards are scored during the game rather than choosing them before you play, and cities score points for greenery tiles around them even if they aren’t yours. Costs can also be paid in production of resources rather than the resources themselves. Its an engaging game and I can’t wait to try it with 3+ people. Absolutely recommended if you like tabletop games.
Tumblr media
Dinosaur World is a game where you all make your own Jurassic Park. There’s essentially 3 stages to it: buy tiles to organize the layout of your park, manage park stats like security, and run your jeeple tour! It is a worker placement game where round one of worker placement builds your board and round two of worker placement is the jeeple tour where you choose a route of hexagons on your park to gather excitement and other resources. Attractions become boring the more its revisited so make dinos to keep it fresh or find new routes. I really was drawn to the jeeple tour mechanic. I like games where you customize your actions, and those are the actions the jeeple tour takes. Its fiddly with small components that could easily get lost but you could use small d6’s for some of them easy. My only real negative is not a lot of player to player interaction beyond making attractions and pulling genes. If you liked Zoo Tycoon or Rollercoaster Tycoon I highly recommend it!

i just realized that even though taylor is only 19, she has like the most bizarre combination of cheugy millennial taste and behaviors and doesn’t behave as much like other gen-z kids that i know, like our friend Jaylynn for example. Taylor is like a 32 yr old in a 19 yr olds body lmao. every now and again she says something that’s hella gen-z and it always catches me off guard. cuz she is basically like a carbon copy of her parents who are like on the cusp of millennial and gen X themselves, or maybe they are millennial? idk what year they were born but her parents aren’t very old. i think that’s why me and taylor get along cuz i’m used to being around people who are cringey like that lmao. i grew up around those kinds of people
also btw while we’re on the topic i would like to say that i finally have surrendered to identifying as a millennial because i am one. for the longest time i felt like neither millennial or gen z, but the more i hang out with all the gen Z children at school and the handful of late 20’s girls at my school i’m like wow damn. i literally am a millennial. that’s insane but it also just is what it is i guess. and i secretly would rather be a millennial than gen z anyway. i grew up with pokémon and blues clues and All That and sunny D and danimals drinkable yogurts like. just try and top that. you can’t. i got to play that fuckin lilo and stitch sandwich game on the disney channel website, like y’all don’t even know hard that game slapped. i grew up on the original fuckin zoo tycoon, rollercoaster tycoon and the first fuckin version of the sims. we had the original nintendo entertainment system. gen z could never

Episode 7 Transcript: (URBAN PLANNER) Connecting With Your Community with Courtney Badger
Rachael Barksdale: Welcome to Career Bites where we make career exploration easy - and fun. My guest this week is a city - or urban - planner for Arlington County, Virginia, Courtney Badger. Her job is all about studying her community and improving it through thoughtful design and problem solving. This career is a beautiful combination of public service and creativity. Here's Courtney on what it's all about.
Courtney Badger: So a city planner, or an urban planner, it’s kind of like an architect for a city. So if you think of, like, an architect it typically - they focus on, like, one single building and they have a list of criteria that they need, that that building needs to have. So if they’re building a house they have to have windows, and doors, and bathrooms, and ventilation, and water, and all these things. And as city planners, instead of just focusing on one building we kind of focus on the design of a city. So we create plans that make sure that cities have all those essential criteria. They have to have infrastructure like water and sewage systems, but also parks and open space. There has to be places for fire and police stations to be, schools, commercial centers, housing, all those kind of things. So we want to make sure that we have blueprints, or these plans, for communities to have those essential services, but also that they’re sustainable, that they can last into the future. And there’s kind of two ways that we make sure that we do that. So we set goals for what we want for a city. We’ll kind of think about what we want our city to look like in, like, 20 years, and in order to do that we’ll talk to community members. We’ll hold workshops and design sessions where people tell us everything that’s wrong about their neighborhood. They don’t like the sidewalks, or they hate that the park is three blocks away, or they don’t have enough schools, or, you know, all these things. And they tell us everything that’s great about the neighborhood. Maybe they love the historic character that they feel there, or - or something like that. And we’ll do walking tours, and we might do biking tours if we’re concerned about having more bike lanes. Or if we think that there should be more transit in the area we might do bus tours, so we’ll ride all the bus routes. And we kind of immerse ourselves in that portion of the community, and we take all that information that we get from the community members and we also do data projections. So we analyze what we think the demographics are going to like in 20 years. Are we going to have a lot more elderly people living here or is it going to be a lot more young families? So we’ll kind of take all the - the research and data and the community information that we get and we, kind of, create a plan that is a blueprint that we’ll use to direct development in our city. So, for example, if we heard from a lot of people that there just weren’t enough parks in the neighborhood - which is something that we hear a lot. There’s not enough parks or they’re too far to walk to, the parks may not have enough parking. We’ll do an analysis to determine how many more parks there should be, where they should be located - you know, should we put a park next to a school? Next to a housing community? Should a park be next to, like, the landfill? It’s probably not a good place. But we’ll kind of, you know, analyze all those different sites and then we’ll take a look at what types of parks people want. Do they want dog parks, do they want playgrounds? We’ll also do that for, you know, housing. Do we need more apartments? Do we need more single-family houses? Do we need more condos? So we’ll kind of do that for all these different aspects and put it into one big plan. After we have these plans then we have to implement the plans, and this is, kind of, the tricky part because as a city - you know, a lot of urban planners work for cities or states or, kind of, government agencies - and they’re not the ones that build the actual buildings. So we don’t build the commercial centers, or the movie theaters, or the houses. They’re all built by, like, private developers. So we have to work closely with those private developers to make sure they want to build in our city while also making sure that we stick to our goals and plans. So if a private developer comes to us and says “you know, I want to build this 10-story office building at this location”. We’ll make sure that it’s in line with our plan, so we’ll - we’ll make sure that that area allows for office, we’ll make sure that it can go up to 10 stories. And maybe in this case, that location - our plan we’ve said - it can only support seven stories, you know, because of maybe shadow studies that we’ve done. So we’ll negotiate with them. We’ll say “our plan says you can go - only go up to seven stories, but if you want the three extra you’ll have to give us land and money for this park that the community really wants next door”. Or “you’ll have to give us money for these road improvements, or for affordable housing in the neighborhood”. So there’s a lot of work with community members to determine what they want the city to look like, and then negotiating with the private developers and with the people who actually build in the city to make sure we get to those goals.
Rachael: You mentioned all the community outreach - have you seen Parks and Recreation, the show?
Courtney: Yes!
Rachael: Is it a little bit - ?
Courtney: It is exactly like that. It is exactly like that. We get really good people that come out and make really good comments. And then we get these...um...these crazy people - I don’t know, like, - that will come out and say, kind of, off-the-ball stuff. Yeah, those meetings go a lot like that. We do...maybe some more hands-on stuff than they do in Parks and Rec. So we’ll do what’s called, like, charrette design workshops where we’ll have, like, maps laid out and have people, kind of, draw on the maps where they think schools should be, or where they would like to see more roadways, or, you know, kind of, highlight where’s really congested or where are your sidewalks giving you issues. So we’ll kind of have more hands-on stuff than they do in Parks and Rec but it is - it is a lot like that sometimes.
Rachael: That just made my day knowing that those meetings are based in reality a little bit.
Courtney: Yeah.
Rachael: I didn’t realize there was so much community input. Maybe I’m just not involved enough in my community yet to understand that. So how much time then do you actually spend in the field? You mentioned doing bus tours and walking tours. Do you actually spend a lot of time out in the city that you work in?
Courtney: We don’t go out every single day, but when we’re doing, like, these big-plan documents it takes about probably a year to put together these big plans. So we’ll maybe spend, you know, a weekend a month doing this kind of stuff for six months or something. So it’s not a ton of time that we’re out there. But during the workday we do do site visits, so we’ll maybe spend a couple hours a day out looking at the sites, maybe driving around the area making sure that we know what’s actually going on, not just what Google Maps tells us what’s going on. So we spend maybe a couple hours and then the rest of the time is in the office, we have a lot of meetings that we have with private developers and elected officials.
Rachael: That’s nice that you’re able to go outside and - it’s not 100 percent office work.
Courtney: It’s really nice to be able to, like, get out of the office, get some fresh air.
Rachael: Was there something in your childhood or your education that led you to decide that “I want to be an urban planner”, or was this something that you always wanted to do?
Courtney: No. So I had never heard of urban planning until I was in college, and didn’t really know that I wanted to work as, like, a city planner, like for a government, until I was probably close to graduating grad school. But growing up I always loved to play Sim City and Rollercoaster Tycoon. I don’t know if you remember those computer games.
Rachael: Yes!
Courtney: You got to, like, design your own city or your own theme park. I loved them so much my parents bought me, like, School Tycoon where you could design your own school campus.
Rachael: What?!
Courtney: It was like a college campus version. And then they had Zoo Tycoon also. And so looking back, I think it makes total sense that I’m a city planner now because so much of that visual, spatial aspect that I love about rearranging builds and where they should go, is so much a part of the planning field. But I had never heard of being an urban planner. Originally, when I was going to college, I was an environmental science major. It’s because I grew up in south Florida and lived near the everglades. And my high school was a - like a magnet program for environmental science in everglades restoration. And so we’d go on these field trips to learn about the everglades, and we’d learn about how humans impacted the everglades and how in turn that’s impacting our environment and it’s, kind of, this cyclical response.  I really enjoyed learning about that so I started out as an environmental science major in college. And the program that I was in, in college, just wasn’t really making me happy. We learned a lot about agricultural sciences, a lot about soil types, rock formations, and I just wasn’t completely fulfilled. After my - I think it was my sixth soil class that I took - I realized that I wasn’t really interested in soil anymore. But I was really interested in, like, the built environment and how that built environment interacts with the natural environment. And so one of the elective courses I could take was called Intro to Urban Planning. So I took the class and immediately, the first class, I was like “yes! This is what I’m interested in!” And I can’t remember what they were talking about in the class, but it was such a clear connection between all these different parts that I like. You focus on how to preserve the natural environment and how to make sure we’re having sustainable cities, but also cities that people want to live in. And so I got really hooked. So I graduated still as an environmental science major because I felt like it was too late to change my major, but I got a minor in urban planning. And then I went on and got my masters in urban planning. Urban planning is such a broad degree. I have friends from grad school that did urban planning that are now, like, transportation planners and working with engineers on roadways and stuff. Or I have, like, historic planning friends who deal with preserving facades of old buildings. So I didn’t quite know what I wanted to do. I didn’t have, like, a passion. But I started to work at a city as an intern when I was in grad school and I realized that I really enjoyed looking holistically at planning. Like, I really liked, kind of, managing a team and coordinating on all of those issues on transportation, and historic preservation, and community outreach, and parks, and...didn’t just like focusing on only one aspect. So I - I kind of really liked that big-picture outlook, and I feel like you get that a lot working for a city as an urban planner.
Rachael: And speaking about your education, since you mentioned your bachelor’s degree and your masters, you also have an AICP certification - do you want to talk to us a little bit about what that is, and how that impacts your career?
Courtney: The AICP certification is the American Institute of Certified Planners - once you have your Masters in Urban Planning and you have two years of experience you can apply to get this AICP certification. And it’s not like lawyers where they take the bar exam, or nurses and - and doctors where they kind of have to pass this certification in order to practice. This is kind of like a certification after you’ve been a practicing planner. After I did my masters, got a couple years of experience and did this certification. It’s made a huge difference in my career. I would recommend that anybody who’s starting out in planning get it as early as possible. Because it - it kind of distinguishes you. You have to take a test and you have to write some essays and do a little bit of work to get it, but it really sets you apart from other planners that don’t have it, and gives you kind of a leg up when you’re applying to jobs, when you’re looking at different opportunities. And it’s starting to be a prerequisite for some of, like, the higher-level planning positions that you come across in the field. So it’s something that has been super helpful for me.
Rachael: Like, my husband has his MBA and he - he got his project management certification, his PMP certification -
Courtney: Mm-hm.
Rachael: - not because he had to but, like you said, it - it distinguishes him, it gave him some that give him a leg up in his job...he would need it for some higher-level positions…
Courtney: Yeah, it’s exactly like that. It’s kind of like the planning equivalent. And so it’s administered through the American Planning Association, and something that I recommend - if anybody’s interested, or thinks they might be interested, in planning, or just wants to learn more about it - the American Planning Association has some really good resources on their website. They have, like, a whole webpage just about what an urban planner does and it kind of highlights, like, different people in their different roles as urban planners, so it talks about city planners, transportation planners, like all these different types. And so they have some really good resources, and there’s a whole list of planners you can reach out to if you’re interested in the field and learning more.
Rachael: Yeah, that’s perfect. I’ll put that in our show notes. Speaking about distinguishing yourself - you’ve worked with a lot of other city planners, and you’ve been doing this for a while, so what would you say, in your opinion, are the top three character traits that would make somebody a really successful planner?
Courtney: Being a good communicator is probably the most important. There’s a lot of listening that you’ll have to do as a planner: listening to the community members that you work with, truly trying to understand what they want. Then beyond listening also, kind of, educating. There’s a lot of stuff that, if you’re working for a government agency like I am, there’s a lot of stuff that you can’t do just because of legal requirements. We can’t just take somebody’s private property and turn it into, you know, a government building because there are laws that protect that. And so there’s a certain level of education that happens when we’re talking to community members and elected officials who want us to do something and we’re, like, “wait, we can’t under the law”. So being able to understand what people want and then educating them on what we can do, or can’t do, is really important, I think. And also, as a planner, there’s a lot of presentations that you give. You present to the planning commission - each city, and county, and state has a planning commission that you present projects to and they’ll vote to approve or deny them - and so making those presentations and being a good communicator is really important for that. The second attribute that I think would make a good planner is being able to have a big-picture overview. A lot of times we review projects from private developers, or if we’re making our own plans, we need to balance the different aspects. There’s so many different parts of a city that we look at. We look at housing - you know, we want to make sure that there’s a diversity of housing types and that there’s affordable housing in the city so people that don’t make the median income can still afford to live there. We also want to preserve trees and preserve historic aspects of the city, and also have good transportation. And sometimes all those goals don’t coincide perfectly, so you have to keep the big picture and know which ones to compromise on and truly where you want your city, or county or jurisdiction, to kind of head to. So keeping that big picture and knowing how to balance all of that stuff is really important. And then kind of going in line with that, the third one I would say is being a creative problem solver - being able to see alternatives to problems that come up, or even being able to see alternatives to designs. Sometimes we get a building that we’re reviewing that a private developer has submitted and it just doesn’t look good. And so there’s times where you have to be, kind of, creative and, kind of, know how to suggest alternatives to these designs or to these certain aspects of the project. Or maybe they’re not meeting their parking requirement or something because there’s not enough space on the land, and so thinking about different alternatives - “can they do an underground garage?”, or “can they put in a shuttle?” or - or something like that is really important to be able to creatively combat some of those problems that you encounter.
Rachael: And I imagine that with just how many fingers are in this pie of running and planning the city, I’m sure you have to get pretty creative sometimes.
Courtney: Yeah, there’s a lot of different people that have a lot of different problems. And so as a planner you’re the - kind of the project manager of this portion of the plan, and so you’re the leader that has to manage all that, so keeping that creative problem-solving going and being able to sort out what’s really important and what can change is a really good skill.
Rachael: And you’ve worked on both the west coast and the east coast. Before you were in California, southern California, working as a city planner. And now you are in Virginia in Arlington County. Have you noticed any patterns or just interesting differences between city planning on the west coast versus the east coast?
Courtney: So there’s a lot of similarities. Generally, across the country, cities have similar policies in place. Every city has what’s called a zoning code that they abide by. So in that sense it’s - it’s kind of standard on both east coast and west coast. And in both cases, the communities that you work with are very involved and very concerned about where they are living. You’ll always have members of the community that want to make sure that you are not going to mess up their neighborhood by putting this new plan in place. And so in that - in that respect you’re -  you’re dealing with that, there’s a lot of similar personalities. Logistically though, just day-to-day operations, east coast versus west coast are very different. I can’t speak to all west-coast cities or all east-coast cities, but my experience on the west coast has been that there is a smaller planning department because there are a lot more smaller cities. So I worked for four different cities when I was in California. In each one of them you kind of split your day between doing what’s called the long-range planning, where you’re making those 20-year plans, and the day-to-day planning of issuing permits. If somebody wants to do a home remodel and expand their home, that’s something that we look at as well to make sure that they’re not expanding into their neighbor’s property. So there - there’s kind of the more combination of these larger projects and smaller projects that you have. Also on the west coast - all the cities that I worked with - all the planners had the responsibility of running what’s called the public counter. In city hall, there’s a counter that people have access to, and they can go up and ask you any question that they want related to planning. So if they want to know what permits have been issued on their house, or if it’s possible to put an apartment building here, they could go in and talk to somebody in-person and get those questions answered. On the east coast I’ve found - I’ve only worked in one city on the east coast so I can’t speak to all cities - but I’ve found that there’s, kind of, larger planning departments out here on the east coast where there’s more of a divide between handling projects. So we’ll have dedicated people to that front counter, so your day may not be split between running the counter and working on your own projects. If you’re a front-counter person, that’s what you’ll do all day; or if you’re a project person, you’ll just do your project - which has it’s pros and cons to it. Overall, with the planning profession, I would say it’s pretty standard between the two coasts, but logistically, day-to-day, it’s a little bit different just because of the larger departments that are out here on the east coast.
Rachael: Given how many different places that you’ve worked, then, do you have a favorite project, or something that you’ve worked on that you’re most proud of?
Courtney: So I thought about this one a lot. Probably the most interesting project that I worked on was when I was in Santa Ana, California. We worked on what was called the “update to their complete streets plan”. And at the time I was working in the active transportation planning department. Active transportation is, like, pedestrians or bicyclists, or transit users - they’re people that are outside of cars. And so Santa Ana, California wanted to make sure that all their bicycle riders, and bus riders, and pedestrians were able to safely occupy the streets, because they had a lot of - just based on demographics and poverty levels - they had a lot of people that could not afford cars so they were using bicycles or buses. And so they wanted to do an update to their plan just focusing on that issue. This was probably the most fun plan I was able to work on because we - we went on the walking tours I was, kind of, talking about earlier. We went on all those tours with the community members, and we walked their routes from their neighborhood center, to the school, to the community center, to the big bus routes. We got to be involved with their lives and kind of get a sense of what it’s like to walk in their shoes, and really realize that some of the sidewalks weren’t great, or some of the facilities weren’t great. And we were able to, kind of, better serve them and put this plan in place that would address a lot of their issues. It was really rewarding, at times, when we would have these workshops and people would come and we would show them some of the planning-design tools that we use, like, maybe bump-outs that would narrow the road so that the crosswalks distance are shorter - just something like that and they’re like, “oh wow! You can do that? That would make life so much better. We wouldn’t have to run across the crosswalk to get to the other side”. And so it was really rewarding to see how these things that are really simple in our minds - we just didn’t know that it was a problem - made a huge difference to them, once we realized what was happening in the community and were able to address it.
Rachael: That’s awesome. I like that the project - it was something simple but it made a huge difference to everyday people.
Courtney: It’s nice when it’s the simple thing that makes people happy.
Rachael: What advice would you give to students and young people as they’re considering potential careers and how to pursue their education?
Courtney: My advice would be to - not to stress too much. Be open to other career paths. I think that that’s something that’s really helped me...is I, kind of - kind of knew what I liked, kind of knew what I didn’t like - and just went with it. And discovered along the way that it wasn’t the most perfect thing for me, but it was able to launch me into something else, and that launched me into something else, and - and now I’m at a place where I actually really enjoy my career. And so I think just being flexible enough to change and not rigid in what I was going to major in, or what my career was going to be early on really helped me to kind of find my own path and to get there. And also something I would recommend is if something sounds interesting to you, reach out to somebody in that field that you may know, or that you don’t know but maybe have a connection with, to see if they can, kind of, mentor you. I know I get, kind of, messages on LinkedIn all the time with people who want to just, you know, Skype with me for a couple minutes, or talk to me, or come in and chat with me at work who are interested in planning. That’s something that I’ve always been willing to do, and I don’t know anybody who’s not willing to help out somebody who’s thinking about a career option. I know I was always nervous to do that when I was going through school, or thinking about a different career. But I would just tell you not to be nervous and just to do it and figure out what you like.
Rachael: That was Courtney Badger, urban planner. As Courtney mentioned, she is always willing to talk to people about her job, so I've included a link to her LinkedIn profile, as well as other resources, in our show notes. 165 Questions
(this took a couple days to complete so I don't know if the answers will even make sense haha)
did you pay attention to anything you were being taught in health class?   we didn't really have a ‘health class’ at our school. we had a whole day once a term where our usual lessons were cancelled and we were all split off into different groups to learn all that shit. i used to stay home on those days because the routine change sent my anxiety sky high
what are your feelings regarding shopping?   i like it when I'm in the right mood
do you think people have any misconceptions about you? i think people sometimes mistake me for being rude or stuck up when its actually that I'm quite shy
have you ever worn fishnets? Nope
do you go somewhere to get your eyebrows done? my sister’s house
do you believe prayer really works? i do, especially after this week
do you have one best friend who is always there for you? kind of
describe one of your most emotional farewells. not really had any emotional farewells
have you ever been tied up? eh, nope.. well not in a serious way :’)
how many times have you been cussed out? i dont think i really have been in a genuine way, only ever jokingly
does it bother you when people ask personal questions? not really, if it did i wouldn't have a tumblr just for surveys haha
do you know anyone who’s been in jail? dont think so nope
have you ever considered acupuncture? Nope i cant do needles
have you ever watched the same sex undress? only when it happens in films/tv but never watched a guy get fully naked aha

have you ever seen your mom or dad drunk? Yeah, but only a handful of times
do you enjoy mario games? not really played Mario games tbh
do you think that necessities should be free? (ex. food, toilet paper) not sure
does it bother you when dogs lick you? i love my dogs but i don't really like being licked, i don't like the feeling of it especially on my face or feet
do you feed your pets human food? Occasionally, but we always double check before that its nothing poisonous or anything
which is worse: being sexist or racist? dont even get me started. They're both as bad as each other. The thing about racism is that its never picked up on when it happens to a white person. We experience it too, but for some reason it doesn't count if you're white.. Racism is NEVER okay and it affects ALL races. White people, black people and every skin colour in between.
do you think suicide is selfish? Only if the way you do it affects someone else. for example, jumping in front of a train or car, or throwing yourself of the top floor of a busy shopping centre in front of loads of people. thats when it gets selfish because youre forcing other people to witness something that could be potentially traumatising and could disturb them for the rest of their lives. Especially when it involves jumping in front of a vehicle because that driver has to live their life knowing that someone died because they hit them with whatever they were driving. personally, if someone jumped in front of my car and ended up dying i would never drive again and it would ruin my life. so yeah, thats when suicide is selfish, and this was a long answer haha
would you take a dirty picture of yourself for someone you are dating? No

what’s the strangest or rarest creature you’ve seen at a zoo? when i went to australia zoo there were loads of creatures i didn't even know existed and i cant remember any of the names
what animal is at a zoo that really, in your opinion, shouldn’t be? im not sure. i think as long as the animals have a good way of life, are treated right and are happy then theres no reason why they shouldn't be at the zoo. and if being there means they're protected and can help the species not to go extinct then thats awesome!
do you like zoos or aren’t you bothered? i like the a trip to the zoo :) I'm gonna love taking a foster kid to the zoo
i offer you a cigarette, you say… no, and do not smoke anywhere near me
why do you think you were put on this earth? i haven't quite figured it out yet
is it ever okay to hit a child? when is this? it is never okay to hit a child
do you think violence in video/computer games influences the nation also? Maybe slightly, i think it can de-sensitise us and make us see violence as more normal. BUT saying that, i play gta and it doesn't make me want to go round punching/shooting people so it depends on the person i guess..
are you in any shape or form, racist? No. i don't understand it at all. at the end of the day, we’re all humans no matter where were born, what our nationality is, skin colour is. It doesn't matter. A person is a person.

Note
Other than Dragon Age, do you play many other games or like other games?
Until Dragon Age, I hadn’t played any other games in a while. Growing up I would play Crash Team Racing with my brother and a neighbor after school and it was the best thing ever. I also played Zoo Tycoon and Rollercoaster Tycoon a lot in middle and high school.
So to answer your question, right now I only play Dragon Age. I’m hoping to get into Mass Effect eventually.
