While cutting away at my paper paintings and vintage magazine spreads I found myself throwing the scraps I thought I didn’t want to the ground. When it was time to clean up I really looked at what I was about to throw away. I had all these tiny pieces that looked completely different to me since starting this new artistic process. Only the very unsalvageable scraps were tossed and the colorful tidbits and magazine snippets were rescued. I’m also fawning over the other supplies I purchased yesterday at @shelflifeart. Somehow I keep coming up with these paintings that work so well together. I honestly love the subconscious push that has me creating works that are meant to be paired together and sing with balance. It wasn’t until I rotated and turned these two this which way and that I saw the beautiful reflection they create. I also had such a fantastic and collaborative day with @julietfurst. She is so kind and creative. I’m feeling so much better today. All the good vibes are radiating out of me while I’m adding in the details to “Flora II.” Thank you to all of you who reached out. The light coming in is diffused by the rain and clouds, there is a crispness in the air that’s almost reminiscent of Fall on the cusp of winter, but still cold enough to warrant comfy layers. Yesterday I started this new painting. The cool, cloudy sky and the fluffy snow had me think of the soil beneath and the bulbs that are thriving from the moisture of the melting snow. I’ll be creating more of these lovely little gems after buying over 100 of them yesterday evening and potentially more tonight. I’ll mostly have the smaller ornaments but I’ll keep my eyes peeled for the larger globes. The process of creating each ornament is an immersive, tactile process. To paint on this surface requires my finger tips and the patience to brush each color layer to create a deep depth of its hue or let a little opacity through. A thoughtful emotion and feeling is being put behind each experience of painting the individual globes since they are in a way a small part of the #molecularseries. Sometimes I rotate my works during the process if I’m seeing successful movement with all four layouts. I’m trying to find the perfect orientation for this painting and I like all of them. I haven’t touched “Warmly shifting” in a long time and today something pulled me to her. I worked her over and she’s becoming complete with each new layer I add on. I was joking with @hilaryclementartist tonight that I found it hard not to work with pink in this work because it brings such a vibrancy to all the paintings I create. Well, I found pinks alternative and it’s a lovely shade of almost baby blue with a hint of aqua that I love pairing with various green and purple hues. It's time to wrap up this behemoth of a canvas. I just finished "Be centered" with only needing to paint two of the edges and giving it a coat of matte varnish. Almost the same size as a box of chocolates when stacked together but oh so much better. I discovered so many ideas and textures creating these #tinypaintings. I'm looking forward to driving up to the mountains this afternoon to setup a little table at the Wilkes Heritage Museum for their event this evening.
