This evening I had the pleasure of delivering this painting to @thedoctorette. She commissioned me to capture the day her and her husband exchanged vows as a surprise birthday present for him. When someone asks me to recreate meaningful life moments like this it’s an honor that I hold dearly. I listened to the music they played that day, I asked her what the weather was like, the background noises from nature, and the overall touching moments of that that she experienced. Sweet memories captured so tenderly with acrylic and canvas. Thank you again for letting me do this, Nicole! 🎨

Working with winter light has made the color adventure a bit more interesting with this painting. I tend to get more bold and bright in the colder months. Something about grasping those colors of life seem more fervent. For this Flora I’m inspired by tulips, a flower that my heart always longs to see in spring time. This week I’ll be gathering up all my collage items in preparation for this weekends upcoming collage class at @covetatelier. I’ll be starting a new collage this evening using items that survived last years fire as my complete collage example piece. It’s hard to decide which photograph to use though. Do I use my magnolia or mushroom gill photo print? 🤔 My excitement for this new work is turning this dull Monday around 🎨 . • The Things You’ll Miss. I created these mini paintings in preparation of my next large work in this series. I’ll be running some errands today and I’m looking forward to all the human interaction and conversations I’ll be having that will be inspiring the next works creation. From my childhood to now, I’ve been amazed by terrazzo floors. Finding all the perfect shapes, colors, and imagery on my school floor was a great way to be distracted when I was bored to tears in the classroom. Consciously I want to be tackling big works, but subconsciously my body is telling me to be quiet and slow with myself. This is when I’m thankful for small canvases. I’m sitting at my tabletop working on a few new tiny babes. There’s so much effort and energy put into them. Sometimes they’re even more complicated and thick with layers than my big paintings. The happy accidents that occur in the studio are the best. I was so tempted to keep this painting as is before I blocked out its current shape. I’m so glad I didn’t. These are the moments of clarity that can turn my whole day around. It’s like discovering the answer to a question you didn’t even think of in the first place. I currently have an obsession to create paintings using this neon green. I’m so completely drawn to it’s duality of cheerfulness and urgency. Also, happy holidays everyone! I’m taking it easy and slow today while wearing my new, favorite accessory. So far I’ve worn it in my hair like so, tied it to my purse handle, and tying it around my neck like a scarf. The silk is so warm and luxurious. I’ve been walking outside with Sparrow in the evenings and it’s kept me so comfortable. Also, I’m still amazed with how vivid the colors are just like the original work. Even though the colors are muted they seem to be singing off the canvas. The whole process of creating has changed since I started working at home. There’s a sweet mellowness that takes over and now I’m taking my time with each new work now. Could it be because of limited wall space and my plaster walls? Maybe.
