Chapter 08. ペレグリナて (Peregrinate)

Venice. A city built on water whose land is separated by canals. As far as the eye can see, the old building with boats milling about as the main means of transportation.It was the greatest seaport in late medieval Europe and the continent’s commercial and cultural link to Asia. Venice is unique environmentally, architecturally, and historically, and in its days as a republic the city was styled la serenissima known as “the most serene” or “sublime”.

Kichiko, Mikazuki, Kongou, and Fou, are now in Venice by the help of the Book of Paracosm that teleported the four of them this morning. While searching for the second book's page Book of Paracosm, they ride on a gondola. Kichiko did use that magic book to summon their own gondola boat, she worried if humans like herself could be shocked to see a fiction appear in the real world. “Gomene, Kichiko-san. It's okay if I paddle this boat for you.” Mikazuki feels worried when see Kichiko who paddles on this gondola boat by herself.

“It's alright, I'll paddle while you, Kongou-chan, and Fou-kun try to figure out how to find the second book's pages in here.” Kichiko assured him. Mikazuki and Kongou are supposed to help her, but Kichiko insists they both enjoy this moment since they're in the real world. Usually a servant like them must follow what master orders, but Kichiko is so different from how other players treat their servants. “Uwaa, this place is so beautiful! So different from our place. I want to take my friends and sisters to come visit here. But only if Kichiko-chan guides us here.” Kongou says while paddling the water next to the rim of the gondola boat.

“Hehe, I agree more. It is such a shame that if we stay here for a longer time, the humans will panic and see fictions like us appear in their world.” Mikazuki replied while smiling watching the people enjoying their activities here. He waved at the little boy who's waving at them as they passed under the bridge. ‘Fou-Fou!’ Fou tells Kichiko that the Book of Paracosm already shows a clue to them.

“Hm? The Book of Paracosm finally shows us the clue.” Mikazuki ponders after Kichiko stops the paddle to see it too along Kongou, so they can read it together. The Book of Paracosm told them to find the second page of the book in Mona Lisa's art. It doesn't tell them where it is located, but it gives them the first clue that they need to find the key somewhere around Venice. The key inside the puzzle scroll, they're first off to Rialto Bridge in The Grand Canal.

“Daijoubu! I will push you and direct us to that location.” Kongou summons her battleship equipment weapon before hops from a gondola boat then goes behind it. “After all, I am the fastest ships in universes (｡•̀ᴗ-)✧.” Kongou shows her pride at Kichiko. It can't be helped since there's no time to lose. Kongou's battleship weapon starts the engine and pushes their gondola boat by following Kichiko's direction. Fou seems to enjoy the air because of Kongou's drive speed like a jet boat.

“People here are sure to have a nice neighborhood. Can we visit a unique place after this mission? Me and Kongou-san were wondering about the real world of your homeworld.” Mikazuki said and helped Kongou in the paddle direction that Kichiko told them. “Oh sure! There are plenty of places we can visit. I'll show you the recommendation after this.” Kichiko accepts their request once they're made it to the Rialto Bridge in Grand Canal place.

“Get the book, and the rest of it is yours…don't fail me like White Rock Shooter's group.” Ghirahim tells his so-called 'demon' friend group, it's Naraku from Inuyasha. “I know and I dislike you ordering me by reminding me what to do…the child is still searching for the missing page right now, along with the two people who are here.” Naraku murmurs unhappy if anyone orders him like a lowlife mortal, even himself as an immortal selfish spider-demon. Ghirahim bit a rage mark along eyes twitching at Naraku's selfishness. “Be grateful that I control my temper. You know what will happen if I lose my 'Demise' form, righ~? My glorious form could SLASH you alive in five seconds~.” Ghirahim flips his hair bangs to control his temper and reflects a hologram call at Naraku.

“Do as you wish…don't forget I'm immortal too. There's no way a pathetic human like that child could defeat me.” Naraku replied coldly before Ghirahim said 'good luck' to him and turned off the hologram call. Naraku's eyes focus on the tourist family passing to the bridge where Kichiko and others now. Smirk devilishly by planning to use these harmless people as bait.

“Darling-chan~! I found the scroll puzzle! (人 •͈ᴗ•͈).” Kongou shouts to Kichiko and runs to her. Holding the scroll puzzle in her hands with excited, since the four of them inside the Rialto Bridge. “Oya? A puzzle scroll? How about the key word?” Mikazuki ponders. “The Book of Paracosm says, 'One of the famous food in Italy beside spaghetti', it also Da Vinci's favorite food.” Kichiko replied when she's reading the magic book and it return into her bracelet pendant again.

Suddenly—

“Look out!” Mikazuki took out his katana when he saw the tentacles head towards Kichiko. A flash swinging katana to cut the tentacles to protect Kichiko. ‘Oh, how unfortunate. I thought it was easy to capture the child from your guards.’ Naraku echoes taunt to Mikazuki and Kongou surrounds the bridge walls.

Slowly the Grand Canal, covered with dark purple smoke, makes all sky scenery into a mist. “Oh no! The people!” Kongou shock saw the tourist and citizen screaming when Naraku's tentacles spread everywhere, one of the monster demon Naraku summoned it and also captured one of the citizens in Italy. “Not on my watch!” Kongou hops from the bridge after summoning her battleship armor to dash and rescue the people. Shooting those monsters with her rocket battleship as long it won't hurt the people.

Kichiko turns into her Cyborg form along Fou hops on Mikazuki when they help Kongou to rescue the innocent tourist who's being trapped by Naraku's tentacles. ‘Let's play a tag game, find me where I am now.’ Naraku chuckles evilly out of nowhere, this is really hard to find him since he is invisible now. Much worse is he keeps summoning his demon minions to attack the three of them. “I will rescue the people, you guys handle those demons!” Kichiko commands Mikazuki and Kongou before her both cyborg arms summon twin laser Blade to slash each demon that blocks her way. Fou stays on Mikazuki's shoulder to help him as his guide, good thing Kichiko summons an ice bridge to let Mikazuki run freely while focusing on slashing the demons and tentacles, like ice skating.

Kongou sped up her battleship armor and zig-zag to dodge her tentacles and sea demon's attacked her, shooting each of the creatures without a single slip. Summons her aircraft, only few of it, to help the tourist find a safe place by guiding them and attacking flying demons. “This is a natural horror show.” Kongou mumbles before sliding through each boat like she's skateboarding on it, so she can easily shoot Naraku's tentacles. She raises her hands to send four torpedoes to the water and activates her machine gun battleship armor to attack her target. “Yeah! Feel the LOVE of the Great Kongou~!”

‘Fou-Fou!’ Fou shouts and tells Mikazuki to watch his back, the moon swordsman twirls his body to summon a cherry blossom hurricane to wipe up all demons and tentacles around him with Fou with a charming smile as always. “Yare-Yare, Naraku-san surely wanted to 'play' with us. Unfortunately my 'age' isn't fit for this game.” Mikazuki commented with a smile. Ready his aim position for his next skills, “Goami Flash!” His katana is covered with a shiny light and slashing speed like a swift crescent moon. One slash swift can eliminate 10 demons each time he attacks by dashing through on Kichiko's ice bridge.

As for Kichiko, she flies at speed and slashing flying demons like a jet plane. Catching the tourists one by one then put them to a safe place. She tries to figure out where Naraku is hiding, he is the mastermind after all from all episodes 'Inuyasha'. That's why she needs to watch her back while eliminating the tentacles and demons. “Mama!” Kichiko turns around and shock sees Naraku capture one of the tourist's children in his grasping spider tentacles to his chest. “Please! Somebody help my son!” the mother of the child cries and begging to rescue her child.

Even Kongou and Mikazuki stop fighting after they eliminate all demons.

“You dirty spider…” Kichiko mutters in anger as she flies in front of Naraku. Naraku chuckles and satisfied to see his plans are working, keeping the child in his grasping spider tentacles right in front of Kichiko. “I am impressed by your skills and two of your friends dealing with my demons…but you failed to keep an eye on these child mortals.” Naraku taunting Kichiko. “Mama…I'm scared.” The child sniffles.

“Let the child go!” Kichiko shouts while pointing her two laser blades at him with anger.

“I will…if you do what I say, give me the book and I'll free this harmless mortal to his mother…a second thought…I wanted to swallow you up along with the book.” Naraku seems to prefer to keep that magic book for himself, same as Starscream and other villains that Kichiko's encounter with Artoria. Never thought all this antagonist is so crazy for books power.

“No, Kichiko-chan! There's always another way but if you do, he becomes unstoppable!” Kongou shouted and was serious. Kichiko is silent for a moment, between her or the child's life…a big dangerous decision she must choose. Kichiko also can feel the crystal Vad is inside Naraku's right shoulder, could it be he is also being corrupt too, same like Karasu and Ouja Knight.

But, Kichiko did see Fou is missing, she spotted Fou is on top of a building behind Naraku. Seems this little beast got a plan to pounce on him, it gaves Kichiko an idea. The girl raises her Cyborg arms like surrender and plays the act she's defeated. Kongou and Mikazuki also notice it, only smiling mysteriously as they both also ready aim too from Fou.

“Ho? So you finally surrender with mercy? Foolish mortals are always easy to surrender to someone they love.” Naraku mocking before he let go of the child, the mother so relieved can unite with her son but worried too for Kichiko.

“Oh dear me…how bad luck I am. I guess I'll let you swallow me, since I know the book won't let go of me.” Kichiko says to make fake dramatic acts at Naraku. Fou ready his aim by gathering his magic energy spark around him quietly.

Kichiko sees Naraku's tentacles start towards her to wrap her right away. “But you forgot something…FOU NOW!” Kichiko shouts at Cath Palug causing Naraku to surprise and turn around. ‘Fou-Fou, Kyou! (Translation: Take this, loser!)’, Fou dash like lightning zig-zag and tackle to Naraku's stomach until his body paralyzes. Naraku groans so hard in pain because of electric magic from Fou too strong.

Mikazuki and Kichiko are ready to make a final attack when the crystal Vad appears from Naraku's right shoulder. “Elegant Crescent Moon!” Mikazuki swings his katana along the wind and cherry blossoms, and covers his weapon to slash Naraku's body with light Crescent Moon swift. As for Kichiko, do a front flip to destroy the crystal Vad until it shatters.

“Ahh!!!” Naraku screams in pain and all his body around him slowly disappears into dark mist, finally three of them defeat him.

All tourist is cheering Fou and three of them for savings everyone in Venice, like a heroes. Without notice, White Rock Shooter is watching the scenery battle from above the top building theater. She seems to underestimate Kichiko's ability because of the book and she cooperates well with Mikazuki and Kongou. “Seems it's my time to handle her, Ah…I knew it, she is 'me', Howaito (White)...I can feel her power is the same as I am.” White Rock Shooter chuckles like a predator who's already found a match to fight.

A mysterious long black hair lady appeared, looking like a vampire with her right eye scar. “You call me, Lady Sing Love?...” The vampire lady answers. White Rock Shooter turns around with a smile, “Ah, Mizuki-san, you're here…I am thinking of letting you test her once I'm ready to neblade her inside of me in one body alive. Could you do that to me? I know you're supposed to follow Terumi-san orders, at least you can grant my wish…'Kill Contract'.”

Mizuki Hotaru is part of the outcasted (OC) fiction anime 'Hellsing'. “...As you wish.” Mizuki responds and bows down. Although she is also interested in fighting against Kichiko soon.

Kichiko, Fou, Mikazuki, and Kongou finally open the scroll puzzle. The keyword is 'Ravioli'. The scroll paper shows them the second page is hidden at museum Galleria degli Uffizi, somewhere in a picture art of Pisa tower. Good this place there's no full guest even it's already evening, Kichiko raise Book of Paracosm to scanning the art picture Pisa Tower until it flows, slowly appear the second page came out from frame art then unite to the book.

“Mission accomplished!” Kichiko says before high five to Kongou, Mikazuki, and Fou. “Phew, I never felt this tired before in my life…this mission is so much hard than I usually play role in my own game story (￣ヘ￣;).” Kongou said before resting her head on top of Kichiko's head like a child. “Oya, Oya, seems Kongou-san already exhausted.” Mikazuki teases Kongou while they walk through the gallery museum to the balcony to see the view of Venice. “It's not easy to reload torpedo and aircraft you know, it cause my lose my strength every minutes (눈‸눈).” Kongou huffed at Mikazuki.

Then again, the four of them take a break for a while by watching fireworks in Balcony Galleria degli Uffizi. Guess this mission always brings Kichiko good luck, enjoy the moment with random fictions. On the contrary, Kichiko seems already used to living by herself as OC Fiction. Especially hanging out with these guys. Mikazuki and Kongou also enjoy the fireworks show in the night sky. Fou nuzzle Kichiko lovingly, wanting affection from her. “Your journey still has a long way to go, Kichiko-san. But, when you need help, we are always ready.” Mikazuki patted her head like his own little sister.

“Do you mean?...” Kichiko looks at Mikazuki with surprise. Kongou giggled and hugged Kichiko closely with grins. “We're thinking of working in your Theater Hall Venue! Just like Artoria-chan!” Kongou answers before giving her a kiss on Kichiko's cheek. Fou huffed by slamming his paws at Kongou's head, like it was jealous. “Itta— stop it you beast of disaster! (>∆<#) it's not fair you are always clingy to her!” Kongou whines at Fou. Mikazuki and Kichiko chuckles as they both fight with each other like children.

But we won't know if Kichiko is ready to face the high ranking enemy, White Rock Shooter soon…

Artemus accepted the invitation, and while the great audience impatiently, but with much amusement awaited the reappearance of the humorist, the latter was making the acquaintance of a man a luxuriating at a well-laden refreshment board. Of course, everybody "caught to" the phrase, and men became fond of getting up between the acts and "going out to see a man." The restaurateur's business from the time forward boomed. Men who would ordinarily sit quietly through an entertainment and behave themselves allowed themselves to be influenced by the contagion.

    Portland Oregonian: Moses Folsom of Port Townsend sends the following sketch of the use of the letters "O. K.," which he stated was furnished him personally by James Parten:

While at Nashville in search of material for his history, Mr. Parten found among the records of the court of which General Jackson had been judge, a great many legal documents endorsed "O.R.," which meant "order recorded," but often so scrawlingly written that one could easily read it as O.K. If "Major Downing" noticed a bundle of papers thus marked upon President Jackson's table, documents, perhaps, from his former court in which he still had interest it is very easy to see how a punster could imagine it to be "O.K.," or "oll korrect."

No doubt Sela Smith, who wrote under the nom de plume of "Major Jack Downing," had much to do with creating the impressions that President Jackson was unlettered and illiterate, whereas many existing personal letters, military reports, court opinions and State papers show to the contrary. He lived before the the day of stenographers and typewriters, and yet carried on a voluminous correspondence. Hundreds of his personal letters to old soldier friends are still preserved as heirlooms in the South and his handiwork is numerous in Washington. He was evidently a rapid penman and made greater use of capital letters than is the present custom, but misspelled words and stumbling sentences were few and far between.

    Detroit Free Press: There are few people that have looked into the dictionary, especially who know how the term "spinster" originated. We often find it in Shakespeare and other of the English classics, but it is used to define the spinner. This is it's specific meaning. Its general significance is wider. There was an old practice, in the years agone, that a woman should never be married until she had spun herself a set of body, table and bed linen. It is not difficult to see how easily the term became applicable to all unmarried women, and finally became a law term and fixed.

    "Standing Sam" (paying the reckoning),  This arose from the letters U.S. on the knapsacks of the soldiers, The government of Uncle Sam has to pay or "Stand Sam" for all.

    "To find a mare's nest." What we call a nightmare was by our forefather suppose to be the Saxon demon Mara or Mare, a kind of vampire, sitting on the sleeper's chest. These vampires were said to be the guardians of hidden treasures, over which they brooded as hens over their eggs, and the place where they sat was termed their nidus or nest. Hence then anyone supposes he had made a great discovery we ask if he had discovered a mare's nest, or the place where the vampire keeps guard over the hypothetical treasures.

    "Shell out" (out with your shells or money) In southern Asia and many other parts, shells are used instead of coins.

    "To kick the bucket." A bucket is a pulley. When pigs are killed they are hung by their hind legs on a bucket.

    "Little urchin" is a little arc (ore-kin : Dutch - urk, urkjen). The ore is a sea monster that devours men and women ; the ore-kin or little ore is the hedgehog, supposed to be a sprite or mischievous little imp.

    "Eau de vie" (brandy). A French translation of the Latin aqua vite (water of life) This is a curious pervision of the of the Spanish agua di vite (water or juice of the vine) rendered by the monks into a aqua vite instead on aqua vitis.

    "Gone to the dogs." This undoubtedly is a a perversion of the Dutch proverb "Toc goe, tos de dogs" (money gone, credit gone too).

    "Dog weary." This ia also the Dutch saying, "Doege waere hie" (being lond on one's legs tells at last).

    "To write like an angel." This ia French expression. The angel referred to was Andel Vergecios, a Greek of the fifteenth century, noted for his calligraphy.

    "Pig iron." This is a mere play upon the word sow. When iron is melted it sund off into a channel called a a sow, the lateral branches of which are called the pigs. Here the iron cools and is called pig iron. Sow has nothing to do with the swine, but is from the Saxon sawau, to scatter. Having sow for a parent channel, it required no great effort of wit to call the lateral groove little pigs.

    San Diego Sun: Speaking of his recent travels through the State of Sonora, Mexico, a gentleman said:

"While in Guayman I met a sea captain by the name of Bruce, then a commander of the schooner La Umon. He asked me if I would like to take a trip with him to a small seaport village called Ajiavampo, 65 miles down the Gulf of California, near the mouth of both the Mayo and Yaqut rivers. We had been on shore probably half an hour when we heard heard that the natives were celebrating the anniversary of a saint and were having a great time. I invited the captain to accompany me to see it and the host welcomed me cordially and told me to bring {ia?} my companion, "El Gringo".

We were then introduced to the heads of the families and were politely told to make ourselves at home. I drifted away from the captain and sat down by an old lady whose name I learned was Fabiana Murrieta de Farrel. She stated that she was 94 years old and had been married to a 'gringo' 32 years. She then explained why the Americans were called 'gringos' as follows:

'About the year 10 (meaning 1810),' she began 'a great many of us then, of course girls, were surprised to see a great crowd coming ashore in some boats from a buque (meaning a ship) in the port of Guayman and singing a song that my husband afterward taught me how to pronounce. That was "Green Grows the Meadows" of course. All we girls could catch was the first two sentences, 'green grows.' Therefore when we saw them walking in groups we christened them "gringos" and there you have the origin of the word.'"

    Louisville Courier-Journal: During the recent presidential campaign a great deal of talent in the invention of slang phrases was displayed. "Whats the matter with Cleveland?" and it's answer "He's all right," did not have it's origin during the campaign, but owes its birth to Battery A of the Louisville Legion of this city.

In 1881 there was a big military affair held in St. Louis. There were competitive drills for infantry, cavalry and artillery, companies and a large number of each arm entered the lists. The famous Chickasaw Guards of Memphis were there, as well as crack companies and artillery sections from all over the country. A section of the Louisville Battery was there and it may not be amiss to say that it acquitted itself honorably.

The boys composing that particular section -- which afterwards became famous all over the United States -- were a pretty lively set. Among them was George Clark. George is living in this city though he is no longer a member of Battery A. The boys had a great deal of fun among themselves and one of their jokes was to lay everything that occurred on George. One night when they had been accusing him of something, not now remembered, though it is thought it was for capturing a big dog while passing through Indiana, one of the boys yelled out: "What's the matter with George Clark?" and the answer came instanter: "He's all right."

The question and answer were immediately taken up by the Chickasaw Guards and other companies in the immediate vicinity, and the night was not far gone before the cry had spread throughout the entire camp. The thing seemed to strike everybody's fancy. In using the phrases they all stuck to George Clark's name before they began to substitute other names in the meantime the battery boys began to continue as it were. One man would ask the question at the top of his voice and a dozen others would shout the answer in unison.

This idea too caught the soldiers and it could be heard in every company's quarters. When the encampment broke up the troops carried the cry to their homes, but it was suffer to fall somewhat into disuse until the Louisville Legion went to Washington in map 1887. At that encampment there were many who had been at St. Louis six years before, including some of the Louisville boys who lost no time in reviving their old war cry.

The legion marched down Pennsylvania Avenue Sunday afternoon and went into camp at the base of the Washington Monument and by the next afternoon the famous old shout was ringing all over that historic shaft. It spread all over Washington. From the Washington encampment it spread further than ever, until by te time the presidential campaign opened it had become universal.

The Regions of Astren

Land masses not contained within official Regions are either uninhabited, unclaimed, or not organized enough to be officially recognized as “civilized”.

Regions are more differentiated by their industry than their racial breakdown, though some races (especially those of the Influx) are more common in different regions than others, and will be noted.  Humans are everywhere.

A “City” is the center of trade and governance of a Region. 

A “Town” is a population center large enough to have trade, more than one temple or church, and a Bank of Astren location. 

There are other small towns, hamlets, and villages not marked on this map or detailed below that do not meet those criteria.

The Island of Haven Haven is the religious center of Astren, on the basis that it was thought best to keep all the god-botherers in one place in case of divine intervention.  The main church or temple to every god resides here, and all cleric, paladin, and monastic orders have their final ordinations here, before being sent out into the wider world.  The Master Vault of the Bank of Astren is also located here, guarded and backed by the might of all gods.

City:  Sanctuary Towns:  Officially none, though the landscape is dotted with monasteries, convents, conclaves, etc. Population:  Mixed, Celestial

THE WESTERN CONTINENT  The most settled of the lands of Astren, and birthplace of most of her races. Shaanti Kasthal

A region of vast plains and gentle mountains, Shaanti Kasthal is the animal husbandry capitol of Astren.  While it is common that most places across Astren have their own dairy animals or livestock, it is nothing compared to the herds Shaanti Kasthal, and, thanks to modern transportation and preservation, the rest of the world benefits.  They are also famous for their non-food animals, as well.  Draft animals and riding mounts from here are prized all over Astren for their increased speed and endurance.

The Gilded Crescent The breadbasket of Astren, the Gilded Crescent grows most of the grains and fruits for the rest of the world.  The Pana valley is also Astren’s most prolific wine country.  Given the need for transporting goods, the Gilded Crescent is also home to many shipwrights.  Pana itself is also home to the Astren Court, a governing body with representatives from all Regions that helps keeps peace and regulate trade between the Regions.  This Region’s population and land was most affected, save the Mountains themselves, by the eruption at the heart of the Obsidian Mountains, reducing the arable land in the region by a third.

The Obsidian Mountains Due to their treacherous nature, with sheer cliffs, hidden crevasses, and obdurate stone, with the exception of a few small quarries, the Obsidian Mountains were sparsely populated until recently.  After the eruption of Mount Obzidon, the large, central volcano of the region, things have changed somewhat.  The lava flows spreading through the base of the mountains and the extending area of blight into the Gilded Crescent has expanded the borders of this Region to include a handful towns.  Also, needing a place suited to their needs, the Demons, Infernals, etc., constructed a new city at the pinnacle of Mount Obzidon, built into, and even spanning, its caldera.  Any traders, stone masons, or budding Warlocks desiring to visit this city best come equipped with fire protection.

Insomnia A land of perpetual twilight, the Region of Insomnia is home to the denizens of Astren that prefer the cover of night.  The Drow, Vampires, and all manner of undead make their homes here.  Necromancers learn and hone their skills here, under a watchful gaze.  Tombs are strictly guarded and only those that have been donated are officially allowed to be used.  As such, most citizens of Astren have their family crypts waiting for them on one of the Funereal Isles.  Due to the lack of light, all plant life grown here is done so with enchantments or is of a kind that is already suited to dark environs, and, as such, Insomnia is the leading producer of mushroom, fungi, and other such items useful for food or potions, as well as, perhaps surprisingly hardwood.  Insomnia also maintains official control of the Great Lakes, making it the largest source of fresh water fish.

The Hollowed Hills Technically too large to really be hills, although all actually adore an admirable attempt at alliteration, this mountainous Region is home to the most productive metal and gem mines known.  This is also the Region of industry and invention, birthplace of many modern conveniences.  Miners, Smiths, Tinkers, Arcanists, Engineers, and Jewelcrafters abound.  As such, the home offices for the Artisan Guilds can all be found here.

THE EASTERN CONTINENT A land healing after the devastation.

The Shattered Isles The scattered remains of half of a continent, this area is all that is left of two Regions from the destruction resulting from the failed attempt to halt the Great Sealing.  Formerly home to hundreds of thousands, now it is mostly uninhabited.  Home now to pirates, smugglers, random bursts of twisted energies left over from the conflagration, and a handful of people clinging to what’s left of their homelands.

Arcadia Recovering from the conflagration, as well as trying to house the refugees from the rest of the continent while also dealing with random spikes of discharging energy, Arcadia is a Region in chaos, but also ripe for research.  Currently overseen from the city of Iona floating in Arcadia Bay.  Literally floating, as in several feet over the water, Iona is the arcane capitol of Astren and is home to the world’s premier magic school, Blackwell Academy.  The Region as a whole is littered with magic users of all stripes, from wizards and sorcerers studying the strange energies or honing their craft, to druids attempting to heal the lands.

Tír na nÓg Formerly the forestry and fishing Region known as Sylvanar, the area’s inhabitants were evicted and the land claimed by the Fey trapped on Astren on the grounds that it “had our name on it”.  The Astren Court got involved, the Fey and the former residents made a deal, war was avoided, and the Region was renamed “Tír na nÓg”.  Not much is known about the interior of Tír na nÓg beyond the name of their city, as some Fey enchantment prevents the details from remaining in mortal memory.  Mostly, the Fey keep to themselves, but do a roaring trade in fine jewelry, home furnishings, textiles, and fashion.

We see echoes of this reality in our name, Seventh-day Adventist, which carries two basic biblical teachings: “Seventh day,” for the Sabbath of the Ten commandments, a weekly memorial of the six-day Creation of life on earth; and “Adventist,” pointing to the second coming of Jesus, in which all the hopes and promises of Scripture, including the promise of eternal life, will find their fulfillment."

"However distant in time the Creation of the world (our beginning) is from the second coming of Jesus (our end, or at least the end of this sinful existence), these events are linked. The God who created us (John 1:1-3) is the same God who will return and, in an instant, “in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet” (1 Cor. 15:52, NKJV), will bring about our ultimate redemption. "These verses leave little ambiguity about what happens when Jesus returns. In Luke 20:17, 18, Jesus identified Himself with this stone, which crushed to powder all that was left of this world. The Aramaic of Daniel 2:35 says that after the gold, silver, clay, iron, and bronze were crushed, they “became like the chaff of the summer threshingfloors; and the wind carried them away, that no place was found for them.” That is, nothing is left of this old world after Jesus returns."

"Meanwhile, the stone that destroyed all trace of this old world “became a great mountain, and filled the whole earth.” And this kingdom, which arises as a result of the Second Coming, is one that “ ‘shall never be destroyed,’ ” and “ ‘it shall stand forever’ ” (Dan. 2:44, NRSV)."

"The second coming of Jesus isn’t the epilogue, the appendix, or the afterword to the sad story of human sin and suffering in this fallen world. Instead, the Second Coming is the grand climax, the great hope of the Christian’s faith. Without it, what would we have? The story of humanity just would go on and on, one miserable scene after another, one tragedy after another, until it all ends in death. Apart from the hope that Christ’s return offers us, life is, as William Shakespeare wrote, “a tale / Told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, / Signifying nothing.” And yet, we have this hope because the Word of God confirms it for us, again and again. We have this hope because Jesus ransomed us with His life (Mark 10:45), and Jesus is indeed coming back to get what He paid for. The stars in the heavens don’t speak to us of the Second Coming. The birds chirping in the trees don’t herald it. In and of themselves, these things might point to something good, something hopeful, about reality itself. But they don’t teach us that one day, when Jesus returns, “the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed” (1 Cor. 15:52, NKJV). They don’t teach us that one day we will look up and “ ‘see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Power, and coming with the clouds of heaven’ ” (Mark 14:62, NKJV). No, we know these things because they have been told to us in the Word of God, and we trust in what the Word promises us."

However central and crucial the Second Coming is, according to the Bible not all Christians see the event as a literal, personal return of Jesus Himself. Some argue, for instance, that the second coming of Jesus occurs, not when Christ Himself returns to earth but when His Spirit is made manifest in His church on earth. In other words, Christ’s second coming is accomplished when the moral principles of Christianity are revealed in His people.

How thankful we can be, however, that this teaching is false. If it were true, what long term hope would we really have?

The return of Jesus is such a massive event that it literally brings the world as we know it to an end. When it happens, everyone will know it, too. What Jesus accomplished for us at the first coming will be made fully manifest at the second.
