i love that moment when youre watching a video that breaks down and criticizes consumer culture and captialism and the creator finishes their spiel and jumps right into hyping up the corporate sponsor of the video, often sneakily, with a really relevant segway that catches you off guard once it hits that that narrator is suddenly trying to sell you something. like i just watched a video and the guy continued with “when im working on a video, i listen to the song its about basically non-stop [...] which is why im really grateful for wireless headphones-” *goes on to talk about the headphone company that paid him to say nice things about their product and offers a 15% off discount code*

and i mean that, i genuinely do kinda love it, cuz its so monumentally disappointing when youre suddenly being sold something, and its worse to hear this person lay out the cons of corporate art, and then immediately participate in it. it really just helps to hammer home their original message. even the self aware ones arent safe from it. a person will make a youtube video about consumerist culture, capitalism, and how it all kills art and kills your spirit, and then turn around and ask you to buy something at the end. artists cant make art without begging for payment, and even those who criticize that still do because they have to eat somehow.
