Helen Beard is one of many inspirational artists working with Clay. As part of our Clay + Narrative of the senses project I researched helens work to inspire my own ideas.

I continue to explore how I want to display the sense of SIGHT/VISUAL sense of Spices into ceramics.

DFX 452 Update Post 5

Hey, I am back. It has been a while, but I had to step back and reevaluate what I should do with the judgement hall scene project, from where I last left off. I am a little bit late to post, but here it is.

What Is The Project?

The project that I am working on and have been working on for half a year (a semester) is taking the 2D concept of the judgement hall from the game Undertale and using it as inspiration for a 3D environmental scene. It is taking a 2D concept and modeling it in 3D.

Where I Last Left Off: Last update I released my first ever demo reel. It was my first time so there are a lot of ways I can improve it. I gave myself a schedule to finish different parts of the project, and included due dates for when those parts should be done and I could lay out a better schedule from here onward because I realized that demo reels take way more time, to be good, than I initially thought. So, to wrap up this portion of the blog post: I decided to make a 3D environment inspired by the judgement hall, from the 2D game, Undertale. I set a schedule, for workflow, and I had a demo reel last post. This demo reel included models of Undyne's spear, walls, a floor, windows, a table and cloth, and doors. It also included a walkthrough of the hallway lit up and darkened. I also, found an image to use as inspiration for the mood/feel that I want to capture for the hall.

What Do I Intend To Do Going Onward?

Editing Models And Deliverables

I intend to revisit some older models and give them an update. Some of these models include the pillars, doors, and the windows. I will also add arcs, to connect the pillars, and add a ceiling. I will add more accessories/items, like bones, to represent more characters and add more the scene so it isn't just a big hallway. I really want to capture the original scene but put my own twist on it. I also want to better capture how grandiose the hall is and adding a roof will diffidently improve the environment and add more possible shots.

Demo Reel

I am planning on improving/ learning how to properly light my scene and make a better-quality demo reel. This will include using more time on it and storyboarding out what I want to capture, and what shots to use for it. The demo reel from last post was a good start, but I can do better if I learn to, and give more/ plan better for time to put the demo reel together. I am also taking new renders/shots of the hall model, that I have right now, so I can get a better grasp of what renders/shots would be good for te future demo reel and what renders/ shots/ angles will not work.

Conclusion

I am back to updating the blog, and I am improving my model while adding more to it. I will keep everyone updated as the project continues.

Today has been fun. I was around toxic iodine fumes in 7th period, sang with no clean air intake in 8th, and now I'm in a room full of vinyl and glue toxins

Also, does anyone else get super anxious calling 'here' on the first day of a new class?

Update!: He made us stand up and introduce our name, nickname, grade, Homeroom, county, the reason for being here, and favorite pizza place. I can't have most pizza, so that was awkward, I don't quite know which of two counties that I live in, and I hate attention on me.

09/08/2022 Semester 2, Week 3

Got a 69% on my first exam for N12 and I feel discouraged, although I didn’t feel 100% confident going into the exam. It’s been the first 2 weeks and I was at school every single day. I still haven’t grasp onto how to study for this class as it’s becoming more challenging learning about the pathophysiology and pharmacology. I hope to improve for the next exam. I know the first exam is always the hardest, I really hope to do better although the ‘bad’ professor is teaching 2 lecture for Exam 2. I’ll be lying if I say I’m not anxious of failing, but I’m in a super difficult semester so I just stay hopefully and continue to put in my best effort. I believe in myself, I will overcome this. I was unhappy about my grade, but I took Mochi bear on a little walk so he could exercise. I have a busy weekend ahead of me with L&D passports homework, plan of cares (mini and major). I’ll be at school everyday next week, it’s gonna be so exhausting but it’ll be my 3/4 shift in OB, i’m excited to be in L&D again, I don’t like postpartum all that much. Hoping for a better exam grade, I will achieve my goal and be successful. I got this 🫶🏽

Rationale

I have learned a lot of new skills and can understand more about adobe apps from this course. I did not use Indesign often. I am a little struggling with how to use InDesign. But I try to learn from class and the internet. I like to sketch out an idea in my workbook before doing my digital work because it gives me a visualization of what it would look like in digital. And it is easier to lay out the elements on the digital version as we know where to put things on the work. I missed the first week of the class because I visited my family in Thailand for one month and could not come back before the class started in semester2. I am confused about what we have to do for the assignment. So, I asked one of my friends and read the brief. In week two, I have no idea what typeface I have to work with for my type specimen book. So, I ask one of the lecturers. He gave me a typeface called 'tomorrow'. After that, I did a little research on my typeface to understand the font before I design my type specimen book. For the 27th letter, I very much enjoy this process. It has inspired by my name. I combined the letters b, a and m. And I used tomorrow (bold) to create my letter. I use the pen tool on Illustrator to create an outline of each part of the letters b, a and m and use each piece from each letter to create a new letter. I quite like the letter that I created because it can represent myself from the letter. I learned how to copy and paste in a new way that I never knew before I always used command c for copy and command v for paste. But we can click the object and press the option and drag the object. It is way easier and faster. One of the pages of my type specimen book has to show the alphabet and glyphs of my typeface. I have learned how to create a table to put my alphabet and glyphs. The table helps the work to look clean and neat. The grid is important to use for the layout. But I did not know how important it was and did not know how to use so I end up not using it at first. But after I learned from the class and tried to use it. It is a helpful thing to use for the layout. After, I finished all my designs. I am struggling with the print setting. I asked my friend to help me. I cut the booklet after I print it out on level 5. But it did not come out equally on the edge of the paper. I go up to level 7 to use the cutter knife to trim the edge. It comes out way better than before. And upload the pdf file on the ISSUU.

Semester 2: MOVEMENT.

These are my mind maps and first initial ideas for the word movement. Firstly I thought of movement of the body through thermal imaging, but I decided movement in nature would be a much broader topic to choose, which will allow me to easily develop my ideas, and make the process full of possibilities.

I also researched the definition for Movement, and found lots of possibilities (as there are numerous interpretations of the word).

While, I created a small brainstorming collage from magazine clippings to broaden my ideas.

Quick sketches of my space, the architecture which I’m surrounded in at the minute is making me feel overwhelmed and cramped. This is not just the specific area I’m working in but the mentality that I can’t leave, I’ve been struggling to have any creative ideas for my project and It really made me wonder what exactly I could do to help this at all. As a start I dissected my environment broke it down to lines and just drew what I saw. Working outside was a bonus this week with half decent weather it made me feel more sane that in a small attic. With not the most ideal conditions, this week I’ve realised it feels a lot better to do something small rather than nothing at all.
