send me  ‘ hc ‘  + a word and i’ll write a headcanon about it regarding my character.

- Soren is gay/ace, as in he's not attracted to anyone but would only be interested in a romantic relationship with men. He's also cis (but only because I can't think of a way around rd's plot, I say, shaking my fist at it) but definitely male. Short guy rights

- Ranulf is pan, probably with a male lean, though admittedly he doesn't strike me as the type to get into relationships fast or just for funsies because he's very cool-headed about things in general. I don't write him specifically as cis or trans but generally, unless I say a character is cis for some reason, you can assume I would gladly hc them as trans and I just don't feel the need to declare it because it's not intrinsic to the story I want to write for them. That being said, I also hc laguz aren't as binary and rigid about gender, so I could easily see Ranulf as nb and it just isn't something I've explored.

- Ares doesn't know what his sexuality is because he keeps even the slightest romantic feelings or attraction under very tight wraps. He's just very concerned with being a proper knight. I would say he's bi/pan in the sense that that's a label someone would have to pick for themselves but he isn't out here picking labels? Regardless, it takes him a very long time to develop any solid romantic feelings. Same deal as I said for Ranulf for trans/cis, and Ares is male and fairly sure of himself on that one.

- Arthur is bi, he's got crushes on both Fee and Ced that he's still sorting out. Another character I would actually actively hc as trans if it weren't for the story relying on Tine knowing she has a brother! I know that one's easier to get around than Soren but having to decide between outing yourself vs not being able to tell your only remaining family who you are isn't... entirely something I want to handle myself. But. I digress. He's trans in my heart

- Joshua is like... idk just look at him with Gerik, this man is bi. Another character who could easily be trans but who I just haven't touched on gender much with. I feel bad not saying much but... he's pretty straightforward, that's all. He just strikes me as very confident in his own sexuality.

Character meme: Arthur

send me a character i’ve written & i’ll tell you the top 3 to 5 concepts i keep in mind while writing them.

The bulk of my Arthur writing and headcanon-ing took place prior to the Project Naga translation and TBH Arthur makes a more positive impression in that than he did in the older script patch. But here goes anyway:

1) Arthur is by no means an “edgelord” compared to what later FE games have to offer but he does have a bit of it when you take the “Arthur Kills His Family” subplot and at to that his confession to Fee that he’s basically making an exception for her in giving a damn. I see no reason to doubt Arthur’s own words on that count. Putting the wants and needs of other people first unless they’re Tinni (or Fee tho I don’t ship that) isn’t his thing.

2) Because Azelle/Tailtiu is historically popular enough to be taken as borderline canon, I’ve seen a number of fanfic Arthurs who are all up on their Velthomer heritage and presenting themselves as such. Game canon!Arthur just doesn’t. Unlike some of the boys (Febail, Lester) he just doesn’t show any interest in the male side of his parentage whereas the Freege angle is an all-consuming obsession. Plus there’s that whole scene where he promises Fee they’ll return to Silesse and unless he’s Lewyn’s son, he can’t. Arthur is a Silessian of Freege descent, not a proud little Velthomer/Edda/Dozel heir looking to reclaim his seat. (Of course this is at least partially an artifact of sharing dialogue with Amid, who can ONLY be a Freege heir).

3) FE4 is woefully lacking in the kind of scholarly mage that we see in other games (Merric, Linde, Pent, Canas, Knoll, etc, etc) but Arthur does appear closer to that end of things than to the “untutored prodigy” side of it. I love the semi-canonical backstory about Lewyn giving him secret assistance with training but Arthur seems to take the craft seriously, especially compared with his mother (who comes across as 100% “natural talent with access to expensive tomes” and not… the studious type).

4) As Arthur says himself in his defense to Fee, he’s not THAT bad of a guy. There are worse in Seliph’s army (especially if you recruited Iuchar). But he’s not that great of a guy either, whether it’s from his upbringing or his… Freeginess? Definitely going to need some work from Mrs. Arthur should there be one. I’d rather not.

Can I just say how much I love that Merrin did go out and find herself, but still ended up back with Cal? Like, she went out and explored the galaxy, she had other relationships, but at the end of the day, Cal was who she wanted. It just adds this strength to their relationship, I think — he’s not just the first person to be kind to her after the death of her sisters. He is, actually, the best person for her. It was good for them both to know what it was like apart, because it makes choosing to go forward together that much more meaningful.

WELL SAID. For real though. Cal is her rock, and Merrin is his rock. The separation helped solidify that when they reunited. Makes my heart melt with happiness.

I know there was that joke about Cal and Merrin staying in touch but the way he talks about her being on the move, seeing new places, and making new friends sounds like he stalks her Instagram account way more than he'd ever admit.

Cal: *accidentally hearts a post that's a few months old*

Cal: *unhearts the post*

Cal: ... *hearts it again so that Merrin will notice him*

I got another cute Merrical headcanon/ideas. Imagine if in the third game, as part of the collectables Cal picks up toys and other items that his kids (which is Kata and any bio kids) would like. Like he just comes back with a bunch of toys for his kids. I just thought it would be cute.

What if their bio kid makes good luck charms for Kata, Merrin, Cal, BD and Greez. Like it's not good quality because it's made by a four year old, but it's the thought that counts.

What if the bio Merrical kid can teleport. I can just imagine the kinds of chaos their kid could create with that.

FIRST of all, this is great. And tender. And also heart breaking. As a parent myself, certain objects of my kids already illicit an emotional reaction from me. This would be a thousand times more interesting with Cal since he can (possibly) sense the past of that object.

IF their kid can teleport, they are DOOMED.

We had the ultimate enemies to friends to lovers trope, why not fade to black after passionate kiss to signify sex? Heck our first shot of him next is meditating!! THE EVIDENCE IS ALL THERE!!

I feel like the game does kind of imply that Merrin at least made some sort of move on Cal prior to Survivor. Maybe they weren't fully involved but they definitely got comfortable with each other and I would imagine it was probably a scenario where Cal pushed back at some point because it was becoming too ya know, against-the-Jedi-code-y and her absence and reappearance in his life in Survivor solidified what he wanted. I could also see Merrin not fully understanding his reasoning until the events of this game give her more of a visual so to speak of what could happen and made her more sympathetic of his worries.

I find it interesting that while they say they haven't seen each other in a while, Cal tells Greez that Merrin is always jumping from place to place which could imply that even if they haven't seen each other, they may have kept in some sort of contact.

As a side note, I also love that Survivor showed that the headcanon so many people have had about Merrin being really physically affectionate was accurate lol

OMg yes Cal always keeps up with Merrin even when they are apart. He cant help himself, you know?? She's his person, even if he doesn't realize it at the time.

Jedi Survivor gave both of them the clarity they needed to take things further, and I am HERE for it. NExt game next game next game!!!!!

Merrical headcanon! One of the interesting things Merrin discovered in her return to Dathomir was how to do traditional lap-weaving (think knitting but using the fingers a bit more to form the pattern). Nightsisters used to include protective runes in their weaving designs, but Merrin isn't quite that adept at weaving yet. It's a good way to pass the time while traveling and the weaving needles can double as effective weapons in a pinch.

Once they start supplying her some wool, it's all over. Everyone gets hats, socks, or gloves. Including BD. Cal gets a few sweaters. He loves them.

He's asked for a poncho. She refuses.

Yep. This is canon.

Oh my god, in terms of Cal and Merrin keeping in touch over the years, I view it more as like old email/messenger days where it's very sporadic and they can go months without sending anything then they have this short exchange out of nowhere cause they happen to be on at the same time like, "Still alive?" "Yup." "Cool beans."

I can see Merrin sending Cal random jokes from time to time or maybe even little facts she's learning during her travels, "Did you know Naboo Gungans live underwater?" "No shit? That's badass."

I can definitely see Cal just casually sending something like, "Cut off a Wampa's arm today. Hope you're doing well."

It'd be hysterical if they sent random pictures to each other with no context like a random landscape of whatever planet their on, a pic of their food, Cal sending some nerdy picture of a new addition he added to his lightsaber, Merrin trolling him with a picture of a poncho shop she found...etc. but again, very sporadically.

It feels like it’s referring to her saving his and Cere’s life in Nur buuuuuut I wouldn’t be surprised if he nearly drowned more than once while with her 😝
