This is the face of an old guy in love with a puppy…and as you can see in the 2nd photo, it’s mutual. I am overwhelmed at how much Pops adores Louie. He cleans him constantly, sleeps with him regularly, and plays like he, too, is a pup. It’s absolutely darling and so refreshing during this stressful time in so many of our lives. So this Friday night, I wanted to offer you some joy as you prepare to rest, or perhaps take a dinner break from saving lives, or head into work. Know that in a time of so much sadness, worry and heartbreak, there’s a big grin and blossomed love between an old, white faced Pitbull and his favorite new buddy…a lanky, uncoordinated little hound puppy. 7/10/17@westendfriends ❤️FOREVER HOME NEEDED❤️ This is our very special girl Delilah. Delilah is one of our many seniors waiting to meet their forever family. She is around 9 years young & has lived quite a life. She was used for breeding & neglected before coming to us. She had a massive tumor which ended up being benign but it didn't end there. We got the tumor removed only to find that she was suffering from skin cancer on her belly. However with everything she's been through you would never know it. She is always in high spirits and eager to play. Her favorite things include: WATER & TOYS. 💦🎾 she is obsessed with playing fetch in the pool 😂 Delilah is an amazing girl. She has gone through so much and we hope we can get her into the most perfect home. 🏡 due to her conditions we need someone who can be understanding & love her unconditionally. We are unsure of how much time she has left. It could be a year or 10. She must be the only dog in the home with no small children. Pops says “Great. Now we have to see if my thyroid is lazy.” *sigh. You can see how happy he is about it. But at our visit Doc felt it was best to check his thyroid since his skin is so fussy. He’s doing better, but not at 100%, so we’ll finish the current meds, see what the thyroid results say and go from there. The dermatologist may be the next step. Meanwhile, Pops has a super attitude, despite his expression. He just goes with the flow and acts as if nothing is wrong, back dancing, sniffing, handing out kisses and sleeping. Giving Tuesday will be here in a couple of days and your donation helps us make sure we properly treat the dogs when they have problems like Pops’ skin, or new intake dogs who are in pain or sick, and the dogs in our care who depend on us for monthly preventions, food and daily medications. These things are vital to keeping them healthy and prepared for adoption. VET DAY!! Yesterday Pops went to see Doc bc of an upset belly and repeated vomiting. As a potential side effect of the medication for his skin, it could have been GI or liver related. Since it’s important to monitor his liver values on this med, Doc felt it best to check his liver enzymes. They were perfect! I was so excited bc I feared the worst, esp with his age. WHEW!!! So thankfully it’s only an upset belly, and we’ll continue with anti-nausea meds and probiotics. It’s definitely helping him, as he’s not projectile vomiting any longer. We’ll continue meds and recheck in a couple of weeks. Doc also added a 2nd topical rinse that we’ll use in between medicated baths. His skin is improving but still needs help, as you can see in his photo. Pops is all good, though. He has a Pyrenees pillow (thank you, Mr Fitzgerald). VET DAY!! Pops saw Doc today due to his allergies taking advantage of our poor old guy and reeking havoc. His skin flared right back up after the initial round of antibiotics, ear meds and medicated bath, so we wanted to see if there was anything additional to do. We’re continuing his 2nd round of meds and baths, but now adding Apoquel so we can get his skin and ears under control. He also got his annual work up with vaccines, a fecal check and heartworm test…and guess what? HE’S FINALLY HEARTWORM NEGATIVE!! 🎉🎊🥳👏 SO happy for him! This guy…he’s such a peach. He just lays there, unfazed by anything…‘cept that fecal. He turned his head around to that tech and declared via a look of shock and bulging eyes, “What in tarnation, I ask ya?!!?!” Oh, Pops, we love you so. VET DAY! Pops seemed to be a little off today, so off to the doc we went! Exam had a good outlook with his heart and lungs sounding normal, and belly not tender (a mass is always a first check with the old guys), but bloodwork showed he was ever so slightly anemic and that it’s been slowly coming on. So, we’re going to do some basic steps in treatment and recheck him in a couple of weeks. He was such a good boy. Sweet Pops is such an angel with his soft, kind, gentle heart. He’s bullheaded as the day is long, obsessed with Libby (I mean, she IS a babe…), and howls when you’re ignoring him, but he is an utter, completely delightful gem. Lordy we love this dog! So make sure to say a prayer things will be a-ok.
