broad-shouldered frame settles in beside tatum on stu’s worn out couch. heathcliff duke wears his signature green, carries a red solo cup like a shield, melts against the arm of the couch.  party guests come and go from upstairs. it’s a veritable disneyland for high school students, crowds intersecting and breaking off, moving against each other, pausing in places for moments of contemplation and hungry make out sessions, and in the midst of it all, even the ( second ) most popular boy in school is anonymous. so, he uses his anonymity to speak to peasantry, just for a moment. “hey, hot stuff -- you got a minute to talk?”
