Perez Contri tried his best to fight in the second set, but maybe his intensity did not hold up due to the injury he sustained there. Shev stayed stable throughout the whole match, which confirmed his controlled aggression worked there. Even he got more dominant in the second set.
The first serves remained more effective for Shev as he won 80% of his first serves, 30% than the second. Furthetmore, Perez Contri could only win 33% points from his second serves, even double-faulting four times still risked it, in his regard.
Furthermore, the only occasion Perez Contri had a break point was somewhere in the first set. He almost steadied the ship, but Shev was clutch in driving Perez Contri further off under pressure. This might be true: the 30% break point conversion was a result of his flow control and how he controlled his aggression, hence he did not leave a room for Perez Contri to respond his shots properly.
In tomorrow's semifinals, it will likely be a highly anticipated match as Shev will take on third seed Francesco Passaro, who earlier defeated Nicolas Moreno de Alboran 6-1, 7-6(5). Knowing how aggressive and deep both players can be, prepare some popcorns if there are any plans to snack during the match: there is a likelihood of delivery cooking in the field. Likely, but it is worth seeing.

Shev went on more dominant in the second set than the first. Several error sprees caused Perez Contri to get broken 0-1 just because he was unclutching a lot of his game points, which preceded Shev's service hold to 2-0.
Somehow, Shev doubled his break to 3-0 with a backhand down-the-line winner right after another preceding forehand error from Perez Contri. Two games later (4-1), Perez Contri had to receive a medical timeout for likely his left adductor, likely a reason he could not keep up with Shev's pace, as hard as he tried.
Shev ended up serving for the match at 5-2, which he successfully did to 0 after forcing Perez Contri to err his forehand to close the set and match to 6-2. A statement before facing Francisco Passaro tomorrow in a highly anticipated clash.

Sergi Perez Contri might have the form of his life for the moment. While his furthest ITF run remained ITF Opatija (Croatia), where he was the runner-up at the end of March, he entered the tournament as a lucky loser after losing a tight 3-setter to Billy Harris. Along the way, he stunned Alexey Vatutin 7-6(11), 3-6, 6-1 and veteran Marco Trungelliti 6-3, 6-2 in the first two rounds. This time, he will take on second seed Alexander Shevchenko, whose first Challenger title was on clay, for his furthest Challenger run for the time being.
After Shev held 1-0, he broke right away because of Perez Contri's rushed shots. However, slightly after, Perez Contri had an interesting point construction, where he made Shev go to the net before smashing the ball. By the end of the game, Shev still held 3-1.
Shev looked more aggressive even if Perez Contri tried to match his pace. Even though Shev had to face a break point at the expense of his forehand error, Shev made Perez Contri go across the court until he also erred his forehand while aiming down the line to save his break point. At the end of the day, Shev took the first set 6-4 thanks to a working forehand, but not Perez Contri falling at the net in his attempt to respond to top it off.

Qualifier Ignacio Buse, who won the ITF M25 Tarragona (Mar 25) coming to the latest two Challengers in Spain, also qualified for the main draw in the Madrid Challenger after defeating Federico Gaio and Sergi Perez Contri in both qualification rounds, and somehow faced Leandro Riedi in the first round. Knowing both players, this turned out to deliver, with an exception for those appearing more offensive could stand out in this match.
Already in the second game, Riedi started to attack I. Buse's baseline game with an intuitive final volley to secure his 2-point lead before going after the Peruvian's forehand side, causing the latter to err his finished before he broke early to 2-0. Without any further hesitation, he consolidated the lead to 3-0, followed by I. Buse putting his name on the scoreboard with a service game hold to 3-1.
However, a notable backhand down-the-line winner from Riedi fumbled one of I. Buse's game points, with 2 of his forehand down-the-line winners caused the deuce and created Riedi's initial set point. Nonetheless, the Peruvian qualifier still managed to hold his serves to 5-3, thus Riedi had to serve for the first set. Even though he had another set point foiled in that game, the Swiss still managed to take the first set 6-3 thanks to his more reliable serves.
