it's been a fruitful year of discoveries, rediscoveries and deeper dives into discographies i wasn't as familiar with so coming up with a trimmed-down selection was challenging but here's my own 2023 "wrapped"!

💿 "genshin impact: millelith's watch" soundtrack disc 1 [and it has to be disc 1], hoyo-mix — i know nothing about it other than it being a video game, loove the music tho

💿 "ok. respira" + "red light (EP)", elodie — are they good? it's radio-friendly pop and EDM but do i like them? absolutely

🎵 i wanted to include paranoïa, angels, true love by christine and the queens but despite having listened to it in its entirety a bunch of times i definitely picked favourites and slightly ignored the rest? so: "tears can be so soft" + "angels crying in my bed" + "marvin descending" + "to be honest"

💿 listened to kino for the first time, fell in love! i've had the black album (кончится лето/konchitsya leto, муравейник/muraveynik & кукушка/kukushka 😘👌) on rotation lately but i have a bunch of faves you can send an ask about if you like <3

💿 delved deeper into cocteau twins' discography but i basically played "heaven or las vegas" [been waiting for a copy to drop at the local used cd stores to no avail] and this faye wong x cocteau twins playlist *a lot*

💿 also had a massive depeche mode phase in the spring; tended to stick to their 80s/90s releases and "violator" is probably their most popular album but for good reason!! do check "waiting for the night" from it + this is my tag for further track recs

💿 "bié records meets shika shika" — it's a project from two labels, one beijing-based the other argentinian, whose artists marry electronica with ambient and folk music; they matched their artists together to remix each other and this compilation is the result

🎵 "a pure person (單純的人)", lim giong — one of the best opening scenes in cinema ever! millennium mambo's soundtrack has been temporarily taken down from spotify so you have to look for it in chinese characters

My favorite Going Seventeen episodes

In honor of the return of GoSe, my favorite past episodes!

2019 ep 5 Caratland Behind - Solely for DK and Jeonghan's recording of BRING IT. Jeonghan's lil "tu~rn left" was so cute but I was totally blown away by DK's angry rap. So much 'tude, possibly fiercer than the original. :0

2019 ep 17-18 Karaoke Escape Room - The moment Hoshi is dramatically drawing out the last lyrics to some random old song that they don't know and the 100 points shows up on screen and everyone absolutely loses their shit. Also, the members being relatable AF because they can't do math.

2020 ep 5-6 Past Life Destiny - Where do I even start? DK full on grinding the floor and getting up close and personal with the camera during his intro dance. JiHan's chaotic reenactment of a scene from "I'm Sorry I Love You" where Shua throws himself out of the car (not scripted). All the SeokSoon drama. As a bonus, Seungkwan sang DBSK's Hug while DK was choosing his partner and I squealed!

2020 ep 9 Insomnia Zero - Birth of Wonwoo's iconic ~tasty~ and when I learned that Woozi has no chill.

2020 ep 21-22 Kartrider - "Booster! Booster! Booster! YAH! BOOSTER!" - Hoshi failing to get a booster, 2020

2020 ep 23-24 Seventeen's Got Talent - Seventeen is so good at adlib humor, they just take the concept and go hard. Too many amazing characters! My favorites were diva judge Boo, sloth rapper Hoshi, musical actor Jun, angry ballad singer DK, robot Shua, and of course "Jun" aka mischievous Minghao.

2020 ep 25-26 The8 and the Shadows - Minghao wanted to be the leader for a day and the GoSe team gave him what he wanted... kinda lol. Favorite moments include the impromptu "We Will Rock You", DK's sogo dance, Jeonghan casually throwing water at Shua, and Shua getting everyone to imitate the voodoo doll he threw on the floor multiple times.

2020 ep 33 Mousebusters - Not so much for the actual Mousebusters part but the orange and grape games they did after. Seventeen takes games EXTREMELY SERIOUSLY.

2020 ep 40-41 Don't Lie II - Hoshi absolutely slayed this season of Don't Lie and he knows it. There's something so satisfying about seeing his chaotic thought process pan out to actually be correct.

2020 ep 44-45 TTT - I enjoy all of the TTTs but the focus on "hyperrealism" made this one even better because it seemed like the members were simultaneously more and less aware of the cameras and making content for the show. It had all of our favorite SVT pastimes - eating and drinking, badly played sports, games they've played a thousand times, and overly-enthusiastic karaoke.

2020 ep 46 Going Magazine - Minghao styled Hoshi sooooo well for the shoot, holy crap. Praise the denim crop top. And Mingyu was carrying this whole project so hard, this is when I first started to appreciate how hardworking and talented he is in other artistic ventures outside of just performing.

2021 ep 11 Ad Genius - Honestly too many meme-worthy moments to count, but my top are: Shua putting Shin Ramen in his hair, Jeonghan putting gochujang on his eyebrows, and Coups proposing to Dino with all kinds of products while Hoshi sings 2AM's "This Song" in the background.

2021 ep 24 Tribal Games - The Whispering in Silence game is probably my most rewatched Seventeen clip ever. Hoshi "epik"-ly screwing everything up makes me laugh every time.

2022 ep 37 How to Eat Rice - We must pay our respects to two members who threw away their idol image for this episode: 1) DK, the hungry rice monster, and 2) Shua, who poured a bucket of ice water over himself to prove that ramen tastes the best when you're cold. Double respects to Shua because he didn't even win after all of that lol.

2022 ep 50 GOING Radio Show - Dino going "look at my fit!" while Vernon is fighting for his life keeping his laughter in is one of the first clips I ever saw of Seventeen and it's still hilarious. The whole corner with Jeonghan and Dino learning English from Shua and Vernon was peak comedy.

Anyway, the two episodes that have been released so far have been really enjoyable! Lots of pun humor, member banter, and a surprise twist! I'm looking forward to Wednesdays now~

hi! do u know of anywhere I might be able to watch the zenryoku episode? I don't even know where to look outside of youtube 😭

hey! the episode hasn't been subbed yet, and it's not listed under like17subs's current projects, so it might not ever be (or maybe they will eventually, who knows). if you're interested in just watching the raws, svt rosebay have it (the most recent two pages for ep. 1&2) but it looks like they uploaded it to google drive and it's currently exceeded the max amount of downloads :(

but if you're really interested you can keep an eye on it to see if they update/add new links. svt rosebay is like, THE place to find svt raws but tbh i'm not sure how good they are at updating links and such, since i don't usually have a need for raws i don't really use their site much

also as a general note for you or anyone else, if you're looking for a seventeen video, these are the main places i look first if i can't easily find it on youtube:

like17subs: the main subbing team for seventeen, they cover korean and japanese content. some of their stuff is on youtube but there's a lot of stuff in their directory that's only on their website to avoid copyright. if it's something more recent, you can check their homepage or twitter to see if they've decided to take it on as a project!

svt rosebay: as mentioned, this is the place to go if you're looking for raws of videos. you won't find subs here, but this is a good place to look if you're looking for something super recent and don't care about subs

seventeen video index: this is a google spreadsheet with links to basically every svt video to ever exist, subbed or not (like, it is very extensive). the creator is constantly updating it. If i ever can't find a svt video, this is a pretty sure bet (and yes, i did check this for the zenryoku ep, but the link they had was also for the svt rosebay upload!)

she breezed past the threshold of betty’s rose garden, turned left at the hedges, and went deep, deeper, deeply.... back into the folklorian woods, where a magnificent tree reached ancient branches up towards nearly perpetual lavender skies; some called it a wonder, some called it a miracle, others called it a warning. that didn’t stop her from reaching out two fingertips & opening up the tiny hidden door, painted in swirls of teals and bright pinks, beckoning her towards a pandora’s box named freedom... and with a tumble, she promptly fell right down the rabbit hole.

welcome to fae land’s mistywood high, home of the bullfrogs! once dilapidated school buildings brought back to life by thickets and weeds, swathed in a new coat of pastel pollen paint; teeming with life through vines and ivy, wisteria and lavender and baby breath filling every crack along concrete hallways. plums of roots, shoots, and flowers blooming out of lockers as birds chitter and crickets sing, binders labeled in floral washitape: Large Wing Anatomy Vol.156, ALCHEMY OF RARE GEMSTONES, the encyclopedia of rules and ramifications of ingesting fae food. sneaking out into the mushroom fields and having your first kiss over bioluminescent fungi, all your love immersed in neon blue. a world of neverending youth, dizzy drunk with nectar juice and the splendor of puppy love, each one as intoxicating as the one before. the cafeteria is teeming with political warfare, lines drawn along cliques and conformity. the maddening spin of petals and popularity, crying tears of mascara in the bathrooms... oh honey, life is just a classroom.

how exciting it can be, to dream up new worlds & wonders as the taylor’s version remasters release, and sparse them across new chapter eps, to revel in the majesty and whimsy of our hopelessly romantic inner youth. i hand picked these songs because i think they embody the whirlwind rush of high school, exacerbated under the conditions of nearly endless youth for my fickle fairy friends.

collaboration continues as my good friend, jack antonoff, returns to my side once again to help with production, this time with his iconic indie-pop sound from bleachers alongside him. every song is remastered under his touch, and you might hear the fluttering beat of fairy wings, the twinkle of their magic, the cry of the bullfrog, the chorus of the crickets, and the endless wistfulness i feel when i think back to this journey we started on. lover, state of grace, and daylight got special attention from the both of us, as i wanted to recreate vibes and aesthetics of mistywood to the deepest of my heart’s desires, and as always, jack thoroughly delivered. also joining me again is hozier, who took complete creative liberty with his remaster, which will bring you to your knees with wonderment and hope. maren morris also joins this chapter for a feature, lending her gentle vocals to create an echoing, beautiful rendition that’ll haunt as much as it hopes. when i started this project, i knew i needed troye sivan to join me on at least one track, and he helped spin a gossamer-light tale of sparkling first infatuation, and helped elevate the track with the original demo lyrics from my days at nineteen. brendon urie rejoined my side for a heart-stopping, strings & piano only rerecord of ME!, a titular pop track from the past two years that’s been passed over by many, so i decided to present it in an incandescent, softer light. lastly, the wonderful kacey musgraves lends her voice and songwriting talent to help combine two iconic songs to create a whole new story - you belong with // betty finally brings the james/august/betty love triangle to fruition, after inez accuses august of actually having feelings for betty, and the titular night of prom that changes everything.

I binged the first 6 eps of True Beauty and I have thoughts...

Mostly positive! But first of all, I say this out of a place of love and care, I think all 4 main characters could use some therapy sessions, because boy oh boy, for seventeen-year-old kids they sure have a lot of baggage and trauma, which they unleash on very different but nonetheless harmful ways. Yikes.

I think this director is good at balancing out the comedy with the tragedy and romance, with his last Project EY serving as an example (that drama ended up being straight up tragedy and horror in the last quarter but hey I loved it!), but this script is often shallow about the problems, which I like to believe is intentional, but who knows. I mean, is a fun and silly show and I just hope it doesn’t take itself too seriously in the end.

My overall thoughts on the 4 main characters:

JuKyung: I like her a lot and I’m rooting for her happiness and for her to realize “True Beauty” comes from inside and she’s quite beautiful in that aspect already. However, I’m thinking that the reason I might love this character is because of Moon GaYoung and my love for her. This role on the hands of a less experienced actress and half as talented, would come off as annoying. I’m sure that even as a villain, MGY was captivating to watch.

Suho: I’m suffering from the same situation as MGY but in a slightly different way, which is a superficial one oh the irony. I think I like him because he is ChaEunWoo though I do feel symphaty for him and the trauma about his friend, he’s clearly tormented by the situation. Not feeling a lot from his scenes sometimes but oh my God, he is delicious to look at. I feel like he’s cleansing my soul and my eyes and I’m not complaining.

Seojun: He’s a lovable idiot. I like him when he makes me laugh. He’s a good boy most of the time because he’s a bit mean towards Suho for something it’s not really his fault and I like his friendship with JuKyung when he’s not hanging out with her just to mess with Suho. Not a second lead syndrome sufferer in me with this drama though.

SooJin: I wanna know more about her, she seems like a badass. Pleaseeee, don’t be evil, I’m rooting for you and her being nasty and pretending to be friends with JK could break my heart in pieces.

Romance of the OTP (Suho&JuKyung)

I think in these cold cold days of winter I’m looking for a ship with sizzling chemistry that just throws out their sparkles at me lol this ship it’s not that for me (I’m being super picky here, my recent watches have starved me from romance), but they’re cute, I’m not gonna deny it. I did raise my eyebrows at the way Suho’s liking towards JuKyung started to show (that was bullying my boy) but JK called him out on it and also a)he’s seventeen and b)the dude has the social skills of a racoon and it probably has been quite a while since he tried being friendly towards others.

I’m not defending him, I’m just saying I understand. However I’m not a fan of the whole “I killed my friend therefore I don’t deserve to be happy so I will tell my crush I pity her and that’s why I’m nice to her” because wow there are SO many wrong things in there. My boy needs some good therapy. Also, what a way to attack the girl’s insecurities about the way she looks like. Because that certainly does make her think that people either will bully her or pity her if she shows her true face. Here’s hoping there’s a nice development to this.

Love Triangle (square?)

I enjoy love triangles when everyone involved cares for one another in a way. Bros in love with the same girl? Call me crazy, but I love it, give me five of those! That’s delicious angst (a good example of this is the love traingle in the high school drama Sassy GoGo, I highly recommend it!) lol but seriously, are Suho and Seojun ever gonna make up? (and I’m not asking about the webtoon storyline, since the drama is pretty much changing a lot of things I have no reason to believe/trust they will be faithful to the story in this aspect).

I wanna know more about our second girl, it does seem to me like her dad is an ass but I don’t think she’s exactly evil? I hope... Supposedly, her and Suho have known each other for a long time, although I don’t think it’s right to call them friends. Suho certainly doesn’t look like the friendly type especially since the whole thing with Seyeon and I wanna say JuKyung is his friend, but not even before he liked her did Suho treated her like he treats second girl, he just kinda ignores her. I feel bad for her.

The plot

I’m assuming finding out what exactly happened to Seyeon is the ultimate mystery to resolve and/or give answer to. We know he took his own life... we do, right? But what are the circumstances surrounding it? How is Suho’s dad involved? Why did Suho ignored that call? Why is Seojun blaming him? Is anyone, ever, gonna seek therapy?

There’s also JuKyung’s issue about makeup and why it came to be. The whole bullying thing correlates with Seyeon’s issue as well. I kinda would like the drama to focus a bit more on that instead of the love triangle thing and the silly little cliches of falling on top of each other and starring wide eyed at your crush when they’re too close because it feels a bit surreal to go from something as dark as suicide (or attempted one I haven’t forgotten about ep 1, JuKyung) to “omg he gave me strawberry juice because I said I liked it, does he like me?”

I will binge the next 6 eps when they’re all out. I find it more entertaining to watch the drama this way. I’m excited about how much things would’ve changed by then.

Kenshi Yonezu - Stray Sheep (05.08.2020) [★★★★★] *REVIEW*

In the vastity of Japanese pop scene, Kenshi Yonezu is a incredible exception, thanks to a fascinating commistion between music and arts. With his fifth album, he confirmed to deserve his growing popularity, bringing up a nice genre variety on the plate, going from upbeat themes to more melancholic and nostalgical ones, helped by his compelling singing style. Thanks to this recent work, Kenshi’s music will definitely see a bigger audience, for a which exceeds the imposed limits of pop music.

These four girls could definitely make an anime opening of their own and this album is a strong confirmation of this.

This band has grown so much since their debut and there’s a lot of interest of what the future has in store for them.

If you think that visual kei has nothing to offer, maybe Arlequin’s latest work will surprise you.

Their latest EP sees a really enigmatic sound, with shaded notes, electronic vibes and a cohesive rhythm, creating an unique atmosphere, driven by an awesome vocal work by the singers Yusei Tsuruta and Eriko Takano. Tatsuya Kitani might not be a familiar name for you, but maybe you know the Vocaloid band Sajou no hana, whose he is the bassist. Between a single and the other, he has found time to shape up a solo project of his own and releasing also some album. The latest one offers a catchy pop-rock sound, well driven by his good vocals, along with electronic, dance beats and funky vibes. Tatsuya Kitani may be another name which can rise within the Japanese pop scene and this album is definitely worth checking.

The final mention is for a pretty indie rock band, Spoilman, active since 2019 but came out only last year with an album. Spoilman can definitely shake the ground of Japanese rock and they deserve more recognition.

born to a lower class family in boston, ma, into the gunther name which were once great musicians back in austria. her father took this very seriously and so named her brothers after composers (johann and wolfgang) and herself after the siren of the rhine.

he wanted very badly for them to be successful in music and in life, so lorrie had a lot of pressure from the outset. also, her parents went through a very messy divorce early in life.

she developed severe anxiety by the time she was in first grade, and was diagnosed selectively mute. the only people she would talk to for years were her brother wolfy, and her oma, who lived with them.

did manage to get some treatment and eventually recovered, mostly thanks to her oma, who taught her how to express herself, mostly through music.

her oma died two years later, when lorrie was thirteen. since then, she’s basically had a mental breakdown every three months at least.

even then, she dedicated herself to her music, even though her father had long since given up on her. but johann, while diligent, proved not to have the passion required, while wolfy, who had the passion, refused to be diligent, and eventually left the family on bad terms.

lorrie also, strangely, found some confidence in drama class; it was easier to be someone she wasn’t than the person she was. after her first time onstage without bursting into tears, her friends convinced her to try out for the school talent show, knowing she was a singer-songwriter.

she managed to get through her audition, but at the actual show? she froze. she couldn’t stand to be herself in front of everyone.

slowly, she realized she could be somebody else. a few months later during a sleepless night, the kind where she’d usually cut her hair or redecorate her entire room, she went to the local walmart and bought every glittery thing she could find. she wouldn’t sing as herself, she’d sing as someone else, even write as someone else.

and when one of her classmates had a filmography project and wanted to do a music video, the fifteen year old lorrie offered her song.

that video was called starr - “royals”, and within a few days of it being uploaded, it went viral.

it wasn’t until a universal rep knocked on the gunthers’ door that lorries father even acknowledged her success. and acknowledge it, he did.

lorrie hated how affectionate her father had become all of a sudden, but someone had to accompany her to los angeles to record her ep.

she hated los angeles, not only for what it did to her father, but what it did to herself, too. starr was how she presented herself to the public, she became the crutch lorrie used to get through these schmoozing conversations. where lorrie was awkward and nervous, starr was graceful, mysterious, intriguing.

also, drugs. way too many drugs.

by the time her first album went platinum, she realized that her father was wasting her money on all kinds of things. they had a blowout fight one night and, even though she was only seventeen, she emancipated herself and locked her father out of all of the accounts. she also left la.

(this is probably around the time she started dating her melodrama ex, after she left la).

after her second album, she settled in hilton grove because it was quiet, far from california, and a place where nobody batted an eye at a famous figure, let alone a famous figure out of costume.

A Subpar Guide To Unine

I was inspired by this video, their new album coming out on May 6, 2020, and also yanjuniverse saying something about not knowing them and wondering if there was a guide or something so yeah!

anyway please enjoy my nonsense it’s fun and there are a lot of songs and performances that I recommend looking at!

if anything is unclear, send me a message or something! i just want everyone to love Unine

Unine is the second nine member group to be created by Idol Producer/Youth With You/QCYN/whatever you want to call the competition show. The group is made up of Li Wenhan, Li Zhenning, Yao Mingming, Guanyue or Guan Yue, Jiayi, Hu Chunyang, Xia Hanyu, Chen Youwei, and He Changxi.

The official fandom name is Nano. Unine debuted with their EP 《UNLOCK》 on May 6, 2019. Their album 《U-Night Flight》 will be coming out on their one year anniversary May 6, 2020.

As someone commented on YouTube under one of their videos, I can’t remember which one please don’t ask, they are a more vocal line leaning group whereas Nine Percent was more rap line leaning. I think it’s neat to see the contrast between what people want to see in any given year and how different their music styles are.

This is also the performance where he rapped and he spent so much time practicing for it and it was successful and I am just really proud of him bc he leans more as a vocal and was really struggling and wanted to make sure he did it right and i’m jsut really proud i love himso mcuh

His dancing in this stage was unmatched by anyone else there (and this sounds biased because i am)

Li Zhenning vs Li Shenshen

on stage mans is focused and completely undaunted and carries sexier concepts well

off stage mans is baby boy. baby. he’s goofy and adorable and i love hiim so much

compares himself to a koala because “especially [his] nose shape is similar…and [his] eyes look blurred…[and he’s] sleepy all the time”

we stan a short king (he’s 5′9 which yeah, is taller than me, but still)

He dances so well and just owns any stage he is on

Rebuild is one of my favorite stages hes done and coincidentally has 5/9 members of Unine in it, though they didn’t know at the time of course

He was incredible during this stage like ugh i didn’t have a bias bc he was there, Mingming was there, Changxi was there, i had no way of surviving

The gist of the conversation was that Mingming was sort of…doubting, I guess you could say, his talents and Yixing told him to treat the show as if he were a new trainee

This led to Mingming becoming more open with the other trainees and more confident in his talents and skills and it really showed and I was really happy he was able to debut bc he deffo deserved it

Mingming’s gray and floral suit in the Rebuild stage is something i think about on a weekly basis at least it’s a really good look for him guys

also just the confidence and cockiness he has during this stage i love to see it

He also has an opportunity to really show off his dancing skills and i loved it for him

He can do imitations really well and likes to imitate Hanyu a lot

think Yesungie and Eunhyuk except accurate

He has very feline features

this has nothing to do with anything he’s just really really pretty

He knows sign language as both of his parents are deaf and when the trainees are allowed to call home, we see him talking with his mother

He has a lot of love and respect for his mother and it shows

His goal in life is to make enough money to support his family so they don’t have to work

I love Guan Yue’s “Turn Up” stage like the cockyness and confidence he has is fantastic i love to see it

his costume is also pretty good esp considering what the trainees sometimes have to wear

also Shenshen and Mingming are in it as well

His performance in Ugly Beauty was incredible also

I loved his Neighboring Tarzan performance bc he was able to include his dialect in his rap part and I love when trainees are able to bring more of themselves into a performance

I want him and Chen Linong to collab bc he was essentially idp2′s Nongnong with the infectious smile and incredible stage presence

there was a competition between two teams for each song and the winning team would get to perform on stage in front of the youth producers

Xixi really looked so fierce and confident in the Rebuild stage I was so proud

He also did a dance cover of EXO’s “Love Shot” and if you’ve been following me for a minute you know that i love EXO’s music and it was great to see

《SET IT OFF》 – official MV. There’s a lot of jumping out of windows, Guan Yue has purple hair, Shenshen has blue hair, and Jiayi and Xixi look great. The song is a bop, there’s a nautical theme, what more could you ask for? A coherent plot for an MV??? Overrated. It’s essentially Unine’s 《RULE BREAKER》. It’s from their second mini album “Unusual”.

《SET IT OFF》 – This is a live performance at the Mnet Asian Music Awards. I have a bone or two to pick with the sound editor of the video but they deliver a fantastic performance. I like their choreo a lot and it’s more clearly able to be seen on the live stage.

《BOMBA》 – official MV. Their first single I believe. Very colorful and fun, the song matches the vibe of the MV. Mingming’s iconic holding a geometric hanging light like a pear is from this MV. Hanyu also spends half the MV wrecking my bias. If I had more braincells I would do an analysis of the MV but alas.

《官方直拍 Like A Gentleman》 – Live performance from their fan meeting. I really like this song and the costumes for stage are stripey and I love stripes. The lights and screen in the background are in neons and it kind of gives the performance a nostalgic feeling and it’s just a really cute song.

Music Monday (7-22-19)

New Releases

Champion by Bishop Briggs: A new Bishop Briggs single! It’s her signature brand of badass alternative pop, with fiery vocals and empowering lyrics. While it’s pretty good, it’s also slightly generic. It doesn’t have the lyrical specificity that let last year’s “Baby” shine, or the fascinating instrumentation on “River” that did such a good job of setting Briggs apart from her peers. Despite that, it’s still keeping my interest going for whatever project she’s planning on releasing next, and the music video implies some kind of continuous story in her visuals, which is really exciting. (The video is badass, BTW.)

Gone by Charli XCX ft. Christine and the Queens: I’m so unbelievably hyped for Charli I can’t even put it into words. This song is catchy as fuck, the production is studded with dark synths and snappy percussion, and Charli XCX and Christine and the Queens have great vocal chemistry. I’m not the biggest fan of the electronic vocal-fragment breakdown at the end, I feel like it kind of slows the momentum of the song rather than building to a climax like I think it’s trying to, but that doesn’t detract from how great the rest of it is.

I Wish by Hayley Kiyoko: Hayley Kiyoko’s sound is getting darker, and I’m here for it. This new cut from her almost reminds me of Zolita due to it’s more sarcastic leaning lyrics and witchy accompanying visuals. The production on Kiyoko’s vocals in the chorus is an interesting choice, giving them this glassy, hazy feel, which fits the heartbroken, almost bitter tone of the lyrics. I’m so excited so see what she drops next, and if she’ll keep going in this direction, because I think that it could result in some really interesting tunes.

Looking at Me by Sabrina Carpenter: Singular Act II dropped this past Friday! While I don’t think it’s quite as good as Act I, there are still some pop bangers to be found, and this song is an example of that, it really is a stunner of a closer to the album. The Latin influence in the beat and prominent horns make the song really danceable, and Sabrina’s self-assured performance delivers the confident lyrics with panache.

Why Do You Love Me by Charlotte Lawrence: “Seventeen” was one of my favorite songs that I listened to last Summer, so I’ve been eagerly awaiting Charlotte Lawrence’s next release to see if it would be another Summer-defining bop. In short, this song sounds like what would happen if you melded “bury a friend” by Billie Eilish and “Happy Together” by The Turtles together. It’s got a nice, jaunty beat and tense atmosphere, thought it could use something more, whether that be darker bass or some more experimental production. If Charlotte Lawrence decides to go for this sound in the future, I hope that she plunges even deeper into the dark.

Saddest Generation by IDER: The new IDER album Emotional Education is here and it’s really good! Their sound is so hypnotizing, studded with stunning vocal harmonies that blow me away with each listen. This track is one of the more down-tempo cuts off the album. The lyrical themes of a downtrodden youth give me Pure Heroine throwbacks, but the instrumental is more layered and warm, including a nice guitar solo near the end.

i’ll die anyway. by girl in red: I consider this the unofficial follow up to another girl in red song, “summer depression” off of last year’s chapter 1 EP. This is drenched in girl in red’s classic sound, with the washed-out vocal production and a dusky layer of low-fi over a solid, grounded indie-rock instrumental. With all of these new singles, perhaps there’s an album on the way? One can hope.

Palm Springs by Ariel Beesley: It’s finally on Spotify! I don’t have to flip flop back and forth from SoundCloud anymore! I am so in love with Ariel Beesley’s retro sound and rich vocals. The chrous on this song is accentuated with shimmering synths, electric guitars, and a swoom-worthy vocal melody that’ll get stuck in your head.

Other Favorites

Drive by Oh Wonder: God is this song charming. Not only is is super chill, it’s also super sweet. The triumphant strings, hushing vocals, and pensive lyrics instantly put me at peace.

Love Me Tender by No Frills Twins: The title calls back to Elvis? The opening bass line reminds me so much of Tame Impala? And yet this song is drenched in bubblegum bass EDM, it sounds like a track MARINA would’ve made in a forgotten era between The Family Jewels and Electra Heart. I fucking love it, this song is a banger and a half. MARINA, Allie X, and Charli XCX fans should give this track a listen for sure. No Frills Twins haven’t released anything since 2017, but I pray that they drop new music eventually, because they have some amazing songs.

Ep 1.We Only See Each Other At Weddings And Funerals

Warning: Mention of drugs (cocaine/weed are abused in this series), Swearing, Pretty gay, Female POV but can be easily changed if needed, SPOILERS, it follows the same story line as the show so there’s a ton

You opened a couple cabinets and drawers in Hargreeves’ office, on the verge of giving up. You bent over to look at the bottom shelf of his desk when you heard a warm and familiar voice say, “There’s nothing really valuable, I checked” You shot up and smiled at Klaus.

“You missed the funeral by the way.”

“Thank god,” You breathed, “Hey,” You hugged him.

“Oh, and Five’s back.” He snickered into your shoulder almost sarcastically, before pulling back but still holding you close by the biceps.

“No shit?“ You smirk, “Guess I better introduce myself.” After a brief summery of the past ten minutes you rushed down to greet Vanya before the family reunited from taking a break to process the situation of their, still 13 year old, brother’s return.

“Hi,” You smile at her. She was staring at the bookshelf, looking regretfully at her book for the second time that day. She looked up, startled by your presence. “I thought it was good.” You say pointing to it. She blushed and looking away, crossing her arms uncomfortably.

“Thanks,” She said, not looking you in the eye.

“Of course you didn't talk shit about me in it.” You smile softly, “You didn't talk about me at all, actually.”

“There was nothing to talk about, you were the only one who was ever g-” She was interrupted by Luther calling everyone into the kitchen to regroup. The ass.

“Space Boy’s calling, “ You mumbled, annoyed, rubbing her shoulder as you passed, leaving her shocked and frankly a little overwhelmed. It had been years since she last saw you. Her mind flooded with memories that simply left her feeling confused and anxious. She took another pill before following you to the kitchen.

You caught up to Alison first. “Oh, hey” She said smiling, giving you a hug. “You look nice.” She said, smiling politely.

“Thanks, so do you.” You said, debating with yourself and deciding not to bring up her divorce. You had meant to apologize for it, but after the mess that the day had been, maybe it was best to hold off for now. She smiled and walked into the kitchen. Two strong leather coated arms wrapped around your shoulders, making you grin.

“Hi, Diego” You smile, turning to face him. “How’s the force.”

“Got kicked out of the police academy years ago, still kicking ass though.” He smiled for the first time that night. You laughed, he kept his arm around your shoulder as you entered the kitchen together, separating to take your seats. You chose an empty one in front of Vanya, seeing at you wanted to avoid Luther. You never did get along. Vanya scooted back a little, not trying to be rude but she was still… A little lost about what she felt for you. You tried to ignore it but your heart sank a little at the gesture.

“Luther,” You say, smiling grimly at him. He glared at you before facing Five.

“So are we going to talk about what just happened, “Luther asked staring at the child as he brought out a plate and marshmallows. “Its been seventeen years.”

“It’s been a lot longer than that.” Five grunts, teleporting onto the counter to get bread.

“I haven’t missed that.” Luther sighs. You were dumbfounded but amazed, beaming widely before making eye contact with Klaus, who was perched on top of the table behind you. He nodded, eyebrows raided, smiling at your astonishment. You had only ever heard of his power, seeing it in person was surreal.

“Where’d you go?” Diego presses.

“The future, it’s shit by the way.”

“Called it,” Klaus exclaims, making you smile at your lap before resting your head on your hand, watching Five assemble his sandwich.

“I should've listened to the old man. Jumping through space is one thing, jumping through time is a roll of the dice.” He paused looking a Klaus, “Nice dress.”

“Oh, well danke” He grinned, twirling Alison’s skirt.

“Wait, how’d you get back” Vanya asked from behind you.

“In the end I had to project my consciousness forward into a suspended quantum state version of myself that exists across every possible instance of time.” He explained quickly, making you blink in shock.

“That makes no sense.” Diego deadpans.

“Well it would if you were smarter.” Diego stood ready to throw hands with a thirteen year old, when you interrupted Luther before he could even start.

“Wait repeat it slowly, I think I can process it then.”

“Who the hell are you?” He comments, furrowing his brow and taking a bite of his sandwich. You stand and hold out your hand ready to finally introduce yourself.

“She’s not important, how long were you there?” Luther asks. You look at him mouth open in surprise.

“Wh- Excuse you!”

“Forty five years give or take.” Five answers.

“I’m (Y/N)” You say, taking his hand to shake it.

“So what are you saying? That your fifty eight?”

“No my consciousnesses it fifty eight. Apparently my body is now thirteen again.”

“Wait how does that even work,” Vanya asks, ushering you to sit back down, as your eyes shot dagger into Luther’s shoulder, making Klaus chuckle behind his hand.

“Delores kept saying the equations were off. Bet shes laughing now.”

You walked around the small library that the house head. Hundreds, no thousands of notes about the others, but not a single thing about you. Three years of literal torture for absolutely nothing. You sigh, stressed and confused. You though about the night’s events with Vanya. It was like there was nothing between you two again. You clench your fist, taking a breath before going downstairs to find her.

“(Y/N),” Klaus called catching up to you and wrapping his arm around yours. Your expression softened as you looked over at him. “Could your incredible, beautiful, absolutely lovely and considerate self… spare a ride?” He smiled sheepishly. You frowned.

“Sorry sweetheart, you know I would, but I walked here.” You say, hugging him and apologizing again. He shrugs, kissing your cheek before going off to look for Diego. You blush and sigh. Running a hand down your face. “Pogo, hey” He looks up, smiling at you.

“Yes, miss (Y/N)”

“Have you seen Vanya?” His smile disappears almost instantly.

“She just left.” You sigh. “I’m sorry-”

“It’s fine, thanks.” You say patting his shoulder before waving to Grace, who looked spaced out but waved back, smiling widely at you. You head out, your apartment only about a block away, You passed one of your usual dealers and pulled out a couple dollars, thanking him before quickly stashing it in your pocket. You’d needed after that shit show, and you weren’t even there for half of it.
