Continue on from the last post, I started writing up an advertisement from 4 weeks ago saying that I am available to teach privately. It was nerve wrecking as it will be my first time teaching people. One of my classmate have the experience of posting advertisement online and have been guiding me on what to write. She told me that every week I should post one advertisement as only one definitely won’t work.
At the start, my first advertisement on sgclassified (the first picture) is pretty bare as I don’t have any experience on teaching and I wrote it too complicated so my classmate helped me on it. It was so hard writing about myself, what I can do and what I will do for the students.
The following week, I wrote the second advertisement (the second picture). I just copy and paste the first advertisement and posted it on Gumtree. After showing it during the session with my lecturer and my classmates, I added more stuff into the advertisement, created a professional email and putting a picture of myself onto it. After editing it for a million times, the advertisement seems to be coming alive.
After telling my main study teacher about the advertisements, I was given a chance to follow his son’s piano teacher late December to observe on how to teach young children. The next following day, the son’s teacher approached me and given me her contact number, saying that she is willing to help me on the teaching aspects. I was told by both my main study teacher and the piano teacher that it is better that I teach until Grade 5 for now and when I get comfortable, continue on to Grade 8 teaching with her guidance.
The third week, I posted another advertisement on Claseek (the third picture) and started to get some responses from it. But the offers that I got were either unrelevant to what I want to do or just plain suspicious. There was one offering more than what I offer but the employer has requirements on the teacher’s outfit and I declined it right after that.
The fourth week, I posted the latest advertisement on Locanto (the fourth picture). It is still new and I continue to edit it as I look through a few advertisements as reference. Right now, I am trying to contact music schools if they are willing to accept interns and sending my CV to them.
