Ooo for the wip game: ground
All right! This is way more than a sentence but XD
It hadn’t taken Zeb long to notice he was climbing the walls a little bit--Zeb was blunt, not stupid or unobservant--which is what had led them here, first thing in the morning, before Zeb had to go on duty.
To a training room, full of weapons, on the Palace grounds.
He turned to Zeb and raised an eyebrow in a silent question.
“Don’t worry, you’re clear to be here,” Zeb said. “Just...I dunno, thought you could use a chance to work out some tension before we figured out what to do next.”
We.
It was...a very nice feeling; another one he was still getting used to. Even after weeks and months of travelling up from the Border to Haven, learning about each other, then the whole process of clearing him, then living together, and…
We.
(comes from the Jedi of Valdemar AU which I don't think I've posted anything about in a while XD)
Send me a word!

AO3 First Lines Tag Game
I was tagged by @darkpuck!
Rules: Share the first lines of ten of your most recent fanfics and tag ten people. If you have written fewer than ten, don’t be shy and share anyway.
1. See You Soon (Star Wars)
It had been months since the three of them had been in the same place at the same time.
Technically, they still weren’t--Padme was home on Naboo for meetings with the Queen and other local politicians; Obi-Wan was in his quarters on the Dauntless; and Anakin was planetside somewhere rainy, based on the way his hair was plastered to his head and the faint not-quite-static background noise.
Still, it was something like being together, even if they couldn’t touch. The chance to see one another’s faces, hear each other’s voices--that mattered. And, for the first time in three weeks, everything had lined up so they could have a call.
2. A Question of Trust (Battlestar Galactica)
Gaius hesitated for a moment before shutting the lockbox and returning it to its hiding place under the floor.
I could leave it out, he thought. I could let her see.
Which felt faintly ridiculous to contemplate; but, then again, he was contemplating…quite a few things he’d never really thought he would, lately. And this…
He rested his fingers against his skin, familiar and smooth, still slightly damp from slipping out to the lake under cover of darkness.
3. Stay (Star Wars)
What was left of the Malevolence was no longer capable of shooting at them, even if there was still one hell of a debris field to navigate through, and some of the tension in the cockpit eased.
Some of it.
There was something about the way the three of them had moved together, had fallen into sync together; both while they were fleeing through the ship and after they’d made their escape.
It was…
Padme didn’t have a word for it, other than it felt right.
4. Snowglobe (Battlestar Galactica)
She woke up first, and quietly extracted herself from the pile of blankets next to the fireplace--the fire had gone out hours ago, probably; the ashes were cold and grey.
Gaius was still asleep, a few strands of his hair--it had grown out some in the months since she’d first approached him--falling across his face, tracing softer paths than the shadows of the firelight the night before, when they’d finally found themselves here.
5. The Secret Agent Job (Leverage/Nikita Crossover)
The last job had wrapped up, without any unexpected complications other than bringing them back to the bar an hour after closing. Which wasn’t a problem; ever since they’d helped Cora straighten things out at her father’s wake, they had keys and were trusted to be in and out of the bar without causing any trouble.
Still, it was late enough that even Parker decided to just crash here for the night rather than making her way back to wherever the hell her current apartment was. She had passed out in one of the booths; Nate and Sophie had gone upstairs; Hardison was wrapping up a few things in Lucille while Eliot cleaned up after they’d had a victory drink.
6. Incinctus (Castlevania TV Series)
“That the last of them?” Trevor asked.
“Hm,” Alucard said, eyes flicking around the clearing. “I believe everything I saw in the mirror is accounted for, yes. I’ll take another look when we get back to the castle.”
7. Under This Flooded Sky (Star Wars)
There was a quiet, unfamiliar tension on the Resolute when Ahsoka stepped off of Bo-Katan’s shuttle. Master Obi-Wan was waiting for her at the base of the ramp, hands folded into his sleeves. He looked…tired. Older.
Like he’d aged more than a decade in the months since she’d seen him last.
She’d had a bad feeling about this ever since she’d connected with Yularen, and then spoken briefly with Obi-Wan to set the meeting, and that feeling surged up in the back of her head now, stronger than it had been before.
Something is wrong.
8. Protectors (Star Wars)
There were moments when it felt as if the Force itself was holding its breath, waiting for the change that was bound to come.
Sidious had experienced several such moments before, learned to sense when they were building--and, of course, learned to exploit them. But he didn’t think it would take his skill to do so now, simply access to the right knowledge.
Project Stardust was all but complete.
He was prepared, at long last, to formally dissolve the Senate, which had remained in place as a polite fiction of limits to his power for nineteen years.
A fool in possession of those two facts would be aware that this was a turning point in history.
9. Of Other Suns (Star Wars/Avatar: the Last Airbender Crossover)
“So, I’ve got good news and bad news,” Ahsoka said, rejoining Padme in the cockpit.
“Yeah?” Padme asked, looking up from her seventeenth try at getting the comms to work.
10. Preludes (Star Wars)
Faint footsteps, almost-but-not-quite masked by the soft swish of a robe against the floor; Mara focuses in on that sound, that anchor in the face of this overwhelming presence in the Force, like a gravity well, attracting everything in range.
The footsteps stop.
“You know why you are here.”
Tagging...anyone else who wants to play!!

Brief crossover snippet
So this is a thing I wrote...probably like a year ago? And after some Enabling from my roommate, I figured I’d share it XD
A couple brief notes--I don’t think I’ve posted this before, but I handwrote it out at some point (I’m guessing while I was at work on a call/in a meeting?) and then typed it up At Some Point, that much I do remember. ...except I can’t find the typed-up version anywhere. And I only found one handwritten page, when I could’ve sworn there were two??? But I might be misremembering.
Anyway, with that caveat aside, here’s a snippet of a hypothetical conversation between Zeb and Helo, in one of the like twelve different BSG/Star Wars crossover scenarios I’ve played with in my head. XD ((On the BSG side; this is during the period where Helo and Starbuck are hanging out with Sam and his people while Athena is MIA; on the Star Wars side it’s...sometime after the Rebels series finale but otherwise Vague.))
“Don’t...don’t think about it that way,” [Zeb] said. “Forgiveness is just...big. And total. It’s one of those things that is or isn’t, there’s no in-between or anything. And if you think too hard about it...” He stared out over the valley. This far from the cities, they still looked alive. He cleared his throat roughly. “Think about it too much, and it gets all tangled up, with the...with the guilt. That you’re here, and he’s here, and so many other people just...aren’t.”
“So, what, then?” [Helo] asked. “How’d you do it?”
Zeb thought about it for a moment. “...it’s about trust. Yeah. Trust.”
“Trust is easier than forgiveness?”
“Nah,” he said. “It’s not easy. None of this is easy. But it is simpler. It breaks down into pieces. It can be conditional.”
Helo made a sort of noncommittal skeptical noise in the back of his throat.
“Well, look at it this way,” Zeb said. “There’s people I absolutely trust to have my back in a fight, but I wouldn’t trust ‘em to watch my kids. Not ‘cause they’re bad people, but they’re bad with kids, specifically.”
“i see your point.”
“And with Alex...” He stared out over the valley again, thinking. “Most people, unless they’re fanatics, you can trust to act in their own self-interest. You can trust ‘em to work together, if you need each other to survive. Alex was the first--and probably still the only--Imp I’d trust not to stab me in the back the second the crisis was over. And, you know, we got to talking, and I realized we had more in common than we didn’t--even figuring he’s a spy, and all the twisty shit that comes with that. And I figured...if he took the blinders off, used his spy skills to investigate the people he worked for, instead of us...I figured I could trust him to do the right thing, once he had all the facts. And I trusted that he was...I dunno, strong enough? That resetting his brain like that wouldn’t break him.” He smiled. “And you know what? The bastard proved me right. Over and over again. And now there’s no one I trust more. He’s...my partner. No other way to put it.” He paused. “...except when he hogs all the blankets. Then he’s my nemesis again.”
Helo laughed. “Yeah. I guess that’s fair.”
He turned back to Helo. “So...I guess that’s my advice, for what it’s worth. Ask yourself if you’re willing to give her the chance to earn your trust. But, Helo--you have to really mean it. She might let you down, and yeah, you gotta be prepared for that, but if you tell her you’re giving her a chance but spend all your time expecting her to stab you in the back...” He shook his head. “It’ll blow up in your face. Trust me. It’s not fair to either of you. And if she’s telling the truth about being pregnant, it sure as hell isn’t fair to that kid.”
“...yeah.”
“So, think about it,” Zeb said. “If you can do that. And if she earns it, maybe you’ll realize, one day, that forgiveness snuck in when you weren’t looking.”
[the blanket joke is shamelessly stolen from my Enabling roommate. credit where credit is due XD]

NaNo Wrapup
((she says, disingenuously, as if she’s actually gotten stuff done this month))
...yeah, I didn’t XD I think I wrote all of five hundred words, if that. A lot more kept building in my brain but in situations where I could neither actively work on it nor jot down the highlights to remember later (most often when I was driving because Of Course that’s when Inspiration strikes lol)
I have actually figured out a few things, at least, just need to actually Get Things Written Down. I have some time off and no travel plans this month, plus the Liminal Space that is the last week of December tends to be very quiet at work so I’ll (hopefully) get some stuff down then. Part of what I’ve figured is a few more gaps filled in for The Other Battlestar (which still needs a better title; I will probably dive into Shakespeare to find something suitable, all of the mythological references I’m coming up with Do Not Suit); I’ve also worked out a list of possibilities for this year’s Star Wars Big Bang, which is starting up now (exciting!)
I didn’t really get any further on Incinctus. I joined a Castlevania creatives discord Ages ago, I should probably just. Like. Ask for someone to help beta/bounce ideas off of/whatever. Then I would probably unstick, lol.
So, yeah, that’s where things stand. I’m hoping to actually get some Stuff out later this month, but not really counting on it at this point. If the last couple weeks of the month go the way I’m hoping, though, I should have some things going up in January! That seems much likelier but we’ll see ::knocks on wood::
In terms of SWBB...well, I do generally appreciate feedback in terms of ‘what would y’all like to see from me’ when I’m torn between a few options, so, here’s what I have right now ((this is, of course, assuming nothing New jumps out at me before I have to Settle on something, lol)) Several of these are in fact BSG crossovers because that’s where a good chunk of my head is at and crossovers are allowed for the event.
List, along with some pros and cons, behind the cut.
Also, plug for my writing discord; and I’ll be around for an open question night if you guys are!
Crossover Option 1: Some subset of the Ghost crew, post-s4, ends up on Occupied Caprica during the Kobol arc (i.e., while Starbuck is there the first time)
Pros: This is one of the easier ones to keep self-limiting (meaning, I can have a Clear End Point and then separate the two storylines without derailing the future too much; that’s one of the harder things about plotting a BSG crossover, I’m finding. Unlike the ATLA crossover I wrote a year or two ago, it’s hard to keep these contained/reasonable, lol). Also it would focus a lot on Zeb (and, to a lesser extent, Kallus) and Zeb needs more love from fandom.
Cons: 95% of why I want to do this is to build up to/around a conversation between Zeb and Helo that I wrote a while back; I’m not really sure there’s enough here to sustain a long-form work. ...I mean, I am an Extremely Wordy Writer, lol, but still. Also I haven’t done a whole lot outside of self-indulgent RP with a friend involving the Ghost crew so I’m not 100% solid on doing them justice.
Crossover Option 2: Anakin, Obi-Wan, Ahsoka, and possibly Rex and/or Padme end up on Kobol while the first landing party is there.
Pros: Another one that’s easy to keep self-limiting (by the time the SW half of things is able to get back there, the second landing party has come and gone; radically different hyperspace/FTL tech means reconnecting On Purpose is like finding a needle in a haystack). And there’s a lot of stuff I can do with Baltar and Anakin; and Anakin and Chief; and Visions and Head!Six. And possibly even keep Crashdown from spinning out and getting shot!
Cons: A lot of this would rely on Unsettling Vibes and Mysticism which is Not my strong suit.
Crossover Option 3: Either immediately after A Measure Of Salvation or during the skipped year, a Basestar and a Clone Wars-era capital ship (probably the Resolute) cross paths.
Pros: Clones and Cylons are a connection just waiting to happen; plus I can get some of the stuff I want out of the Head!People without adding the Kobol Vibes into the mix; I also have a few Cylon OCs I could throw in because Why Not.
Cons: That self-limiting problem is a Big One here. I also don’t write a whole lot of clones other than Rex, so...yeah, doing that connection justice isn’t easy.
Non-Crossover Option 1: actually using this as an excuse to finish our faces like a mirror the way I keep saying I could
Pros: I might actually finish this! I’m still really invested in my girl Bo-Katan and the way her relationship with her sister collapses.
Cons: That whole ‘I keep saying I could’ things is. Not an exaggeration, lol. I’ve been working on this off and on for like...five years? And still have a Long Way To Go.
Non-Crossover Option 2: Dive back into Devoted!verse; pick up either Padme or the Kryze sisters’ backstory, or Anakin and Ahsoka as kids; or possibly Bail and Breha.
Pros: I do want to get back to this AU, and there’s a lot to build on. I’m not sure Bail could support a BB-length story on his own the way the other options could, but I do love him. (Kryze sisters is the most likely at this point, because half a summary popped into my head, but I don’t. I don’t really have much beyond that, lol. Anakin and Ahsoka are a close second because I just have Feelings about Sibling Bonds.)
Cons: There’s a lot of white space to fill with any of these options, figuring out what I’m doing and getting it done in a way that I feel as satisfied with as the main story in this AU is going to be difficult.
Non-Crossover Option 3: Something Else I Haven’t Come Up With Yet.
Pros: Things pop into my head a lot and if I ride the wave when it does then it usually goes well??
Cons: Well. Sign-ups are technically starting, and I...don’t have the concept yet, lol.
...I think that’s about it! Thoughts, opinions? Unrelated questions? Let me know!
i guess this sort of turned into a coming attractions post lol so i’m not gonna do one on monday but here we are

Conversation
Me: I am Finally getting Actual Text down on The Other Battlestar ((admittedly not much; I've got like an eighth of the pre-attack stuff I need to get down let alone the rest of the miniseries; and a few snippets from Much later in the timeline; plus I still need a better title but the Point is))
Me: I am semi-actively working on Actually Plotting what I'll do for next year's SWBB ((admittedly this includes toying with various BSG crossover options but still))
Me: Hey, I might even have the headspace/mental energy to actually update Protectors or one of the other open SW AUs I keep getting distracted from!
Me: The Point Is, I am being Productive Ish on the things I Actually Want To Be Productive On!
My Brain:
Me: ...oh no.
My Brain: :D
Me: please no.
My Brain: HERE HAVE AN EVEN WILDER BSG CANON DIVERGENT AU.
Me: I didn't ask for this!
My Brain: BUT WE CAN BE EITHER REALLY KIND OR REALLY MEAN
Me: I understand that but--
My Brain: I EVEN HAVE A TITLE FOR YOU!
Me: Or at least a spring--no. No, no, no. I am Not Going To Give In.
My Brain: IT'S SHIIIIIIINYYYYYYYY
Me: ...maybe as an outline. *Maybe.* ...on that subject, the BSG1 outline could use some love, any chance of--
My Brain: SHIIIIIIIIIINYYYYYYYYYYYYY
Me: ....Sigh.

Coming Attractions!
Short one again, and technically a day late, ah well.
As always, feel free to check out my writing discord; and I’ll hang out for an Open Question Night if y’all are interested!
I also have a couple of meme/question lists open (one; two; three; four; five); feel free to send me some of those (please specify which list)!
Star Wars Projects:
Precipice!verse: Still not officially on hiatus because I am Determined not to let that happen, lol. I am...admittedly not sure when the next chapter/next Preludes story will come out, but.
SWBB: I am starting to toy with stuff for next year, but I don’t have a concrete idea yet...still leaning towards a BSG crossover because there’s a lot of Interesting Stuff I could do there (especially in PT/TCW era, which has always been my SW home, so to speak).
AtLA Projects:
On hold for the moment...I couldn’t sustain the momentum, alas. But I’m sure sooner or later (probably sooner) something will pop up that will get me to start Actively Working on at least the Avatar Zuko story, and maybe one of the others.
Castlevania Projects:
I swear I really am working on Incinctus XD It’s just this next chapter is being a pain in the ass; I’ve got the like...two or three after it essentially ready but This One.
BSG Projects:
The Other Battlestar is actually coming along! I’m probably just going to go in chronological order, which does mean spending a solid chunk at the beginning introducing four (or possibly five) OCs who are central to the plot (Pegasus SMO Daphne [Last Name Still Needed]; the marine officer formerly known as Rex who needs renamed [as I complained about the other day lol]; Replacement VP [who...also needs a name, lol...]; and then Atia [who does all the Science Stuff]; I am also putting a Four in play because I can, but he might not get introduced until Pegasus happens to that civilian fleet.)
...yeah, there are still some missing names here XD I’m also still not super happy with the title, but I have yet to come up with a better one...and toying with the idea of doing one POV per chapter and having the POV character as the chapter title (like I did with Take a Bond of Fate; or some other internal structure, but that can be settled once I have more text.
But I did have fun earlier today poking at Fleet!Cavil and how some of his gambits are altered. Little taste (rough/unedited/draft-y; not sure I like some of the wording I’m using here, but still):
He could, technically, refer to them as Shelly and Vera, but it felt so...undignified, to think of them as anything other than what they were. They were Cylons, not humans. The names were a convenient fiction while they were completing the genocide.
And now, he supposed, the mop-up after.
Still, a way to distinguish them would be useful, especially since they had gone to such lengths to distinguish themselves. Fine. Six-A would be the buttoned-up librarian, and Six-B would be the clever prostitute.
Anyway, I’m going to keep pushing at this; goal is to work on it a little bit each day and hopefully these holes will fill in as I go. I’m also thinking ahead to NaNo, and how I want to split my time there...but hopefully I’ll have started posting this before we get there, lol.
(As for other BSG projects--various random prompts that have flitted around my brain; Serenissima; pondering a For Sorrow Sung rewrite--those are not a Focus at the moment but are definitely hanging around and might see some movement as well. I also need to get back to my rewatch...)
Other Fanfic Projects:
My PodTogether project went live! It is a Leverage/Nikita crossover, and I had a great time putting it together and working with farkenshnoffingottom (who was my podficcer).
Original Fic:
I do love the summer challenges on Rainbowfic because I always get stuff done there, lol. I think I did some really nice things this time around.
I am vaguely poking at some of the other/more long-term projects (Lady Mordred; one or two alternate history things; that first contact novel I was working on for NaNo one year...) but no actual text has made it down lately. I should get back into those...
...I think that pretty much sums it up!

Coming Attractions
First Monday of the month, trying to get back into the habit of doing these...
As always, I’m hanging around for Open Question Night--my askbox is always open, but tonight I’ll be keeping an active eye on it. Anything related to any of the fandoms I’ve posted here or on AO3 is fair game, or my original stuff if you’re familiar, etc. I do take prompts, but given how slow I’ve been at putting out content lately, I don’t guarantee filling any in anything approaching a timely manner, lol.
Probably a short update this month, but I still like doing these so here goes.
Star Wars:
Trying to get back into writing Protectors and/or Preludes, both of which are Way overdue for an update. Also starting to poke at possibilities for next year’s BB, because I do enjoy participating a lot. The Obi-Wan series didn’t spark as much inspiration as I’d hoped (although I did love it a lot!) so we’ll see how that goes.
Castlevania:
I ran into a roadblock with Incinctus faster than I expected. I forgot that Chapter 4 was only half-done, and I keep forgetting to actually finish it, lol. I know more or less what I’m doing, I just need to sit down and get the actual words on paper, so to speak. And then I should be able to get back to regular updates for a while.
Battlestar Galactica:
Having now watched all the stuff I actively Need for The Other Battlestar, I’m starting to put actual text together (beyond a couple of snippets I’ve already written here and there, a couple of which I’ve posted here, including the one that I wrote 10+ years ago). I’m going back and forth on whether or not I want to ignore a particular timeline detail from Razor, and toying with how I want to structure it (there’s a fair amount I need to cover in the miniseries, but a good chunk of it is establishing the relevant OCs for this AU and I know that’s not always the best place to start; but on the other hand, if I just jump into 33 and/or Pegasus encountering its civilian fleet, that...I feel like that wouldn’t really Work.)
Also need to work out an Official Title for this story, lol, but that can come when I actually get around to posting it.
I am enjoying fleshing out the I need--also going back and forth on whether or not to include a Four who will remain incognito until the end of the fic; there are some plot points that would be easier to get around if he’s there, plus I feel like there’s a lot to explore with Fours that we don’t get as much of as we could and I’d like the excuse to work with one extensively. That being said, I’m leaning towards no, I think he would cause more problems than he solved for me, but the idea refuses to die.) As a tangent to that, the senior medical officer on Pegasus is going to be fairly prominent, and figuring out how many subordinates/etc. I need to build for her is. Like. ...I googled what the medical department on an aircraft carrier is supposed to be and. It’s A Lot. (Cottle having...basically just him and Ishay and maybe a couple of corpsmen/I feel like there’s more than just the two of them in a couple of the surgery scenes...anyway, that’s justified in that Galactica was stripped down to a skeleton crew. Given that Pegasus had just docked for extended rehaul/shore leave/etc., I’m not sure that holds true there? But, then again, we don’t know the full makeup of the 700some people who died then...I’m overthinking this, lol. Anyway, I did decide that Daphne gets at least one additional doctor from the stripped civilian fleet, which is where the Four would come in if I do involve one, but that’s a separate conversation.)
Other Fanfic Projects:
Working on pod-together, this year’s project is a Leverage/Nikita crossover which is proving a lot of fun to work on! And my reader/partner likes what I’ve put together thus far so hopefully this’ll appeal to a general/broader audience as well.
Original Fic:
Thanks to a rainbowfic challenge, I’ll hopefully/probably/fingers crossed actually do some this month? We shall see...
I think that about covers it! Like I said, a fairly short one this month. What about you guys, what are you working on?
((Also, do y’all want to see me post more WIP snippets on here? And/or on my Discord, if you’re there? Obviously not for challenges like pod-together/big bang/etc., which have Rules about reveals, but for the other stuff. I don’t mind sharing (clearly; I’ve put things out before, lol), but.))

today on ‘things my brain fed me at 2:30 am’
star wars/bsg fusion
not a regular crossover (which i’m usually more interested in), but a fusion.
with athena as the vader analogue.
((not that i actually plan to write this in part because filling out the rest of the cast is Hard and also i am Not killing helo but. a thought experiment, i guess? it (potentially) works as a luke & vader story more than anything else but it does work. and also i started thinking about the things athena and anakin have in common which. was more than i initially thought lol))
i may or may not delete this in the morning because again 2:30 am XD but it’s a Thought

Random Crossover Notes
I don't intend to actually write this (even as an AU outline; at least not yet; I'm hoping it will either die and/or interest some of the maybe five people who are invested in both fandoms enough to be worth exploring further, lol).
But it came bursting back into my head tonight and in an effort to get it out, going to ramble a bit!
This is a Wheel of Time/Battlestar Galactica crossover. (Of the...it's not a fusion exactly; and it's not a 'the Fleet stumbles across this world' direct crossover; it's 'characters from BSG exist and have always existed on this planet and fit into the fabric of this world'. That kind of crossover. the second kind could Also be interesting but that is another problem I Do Not Need
This includes decisions about:
Baltar
Caprica
Tory
Roslin
Billy
Starbuck (though not much)
Some speculation/vague thoughts about Lee and Zarek
Also includes an OC of mine.
Part of why I don't intend to actually Write It is I don't...really have all that much yet.
This did originally exist 10-15 years ago; back when I wrote a single one-shot and had plans for a much longer AU in WoT and was active in BSG fandom. Accordingly, it's more aligned with book!verse than show!verse, though I'd probably bring in some show!verse stuff I liked if I were actually writing the thing. How many of the original details I'm actually remembering (beyond the First Concept Idea) and how are new as of the past few hours, IDEK. It does also involve an OC of mine because screw it, this is my self-indulgent BS, I wanna.
((She could probably be cut in this case but. Again. Mine. I wanna. XD))
Anyway.
So, as with a lot of my initial Concepts, this starts with Baltar. Obviously, he's a channeler.
He's also Seanchan.
He's da'covale, but da'covale to a Very high-ranking High Lord, meaning he has higher status than some of the Lower Blood. He has yet to be identified as a channeler.
My OC, as usual, is Atia, his daughter. She's marath'damane and is well aware of what she is. She's...been raised in this culture, and wouldn't resist the searchers/sul'dam when they come for her...except she's aware of what her father is. She doesn't like the idea of him being gentled/killed and while there's only so much she can do to help she feels like she has to do Something.
Caprica is a sul'dam, in service to the same High Lord/Lady as Gaius and Atia. She and Gaius meet and fall in love with each other; at some point she twigs onto either him or Atia, and the three of them run away together. Not sure if they manage to find a place in the Return fleet or if they cross the ocean All By Themselves, but.
And then at Some point they run into some subset of the WoT cast but...yeah, this is pretty much as far as I got XD Gaius would probably eventually end up at the Black Tower. He and Caprica would probably be Very Into the idea of Warder-bonding each other when they get there.
...and yeah, that's about as far as I got, lol. Figuring out where other BSG characters might fit into this world is...complicated, lol. Partly because only half-remembering the tapestry of cultures/alliances/etc.; partly because in a couple of cases there are roles that would fit An aspect of a character but Very Much Not others (e.g., I can honestly see Lee aligning himself with Galad's subset of the Whitecloaks except there is zero chance of Bill as a Whitecloak sooooooooo yeah. Athena would be either another sul'dam or Aiel, I can't decide which works better. ...actually, Aiel; she and Boomer are both Shaido but Athena breaks with her clan when the Aiel fracture? Or something...)
Anyway, if anyone else has any thoughts I'd appreciate them XD
ETA: So I myself had some additional thoughts, lol.
First--Starbuck and Mat. They just. They would either be Instant Bros or Thoroughly Despise One Another there is no in between. They're just. Like. If I was doing a Fusion, Starbuck would 100% fill the Mat role, they are so much alike and I love them both for it. Anyway, I lean towards timelining it so they can be Bros because that's way more interesting/fun for me personally. See above re: self-indulgence, lol. (They have also slept together at least twice.)
Second--Zarek might actually be interesting as a Whitecloak. Not in the sense that he fully believes/buys into their rhetoric, but...I don't know, it could fit his blend of 'I believe some of this, but I'm also using it as an avenue to gain Power.' And again with the Lee vibes, especially if Lee starts Considering joining as part of the storyline, even if he doesn't start there? IDK though, I keep going back and forth on this one.
Next, Roslin. I toyed with a few different options for her. She's definitely not an Aes Sedai; initially I was thinking she might be the head of one of the groups like the Kin (if I'm remembering the name right? The women who were rejected by the Tower and formed their own quiet underground networks) or an Aiel Wise One. But then I realized--you know who absolutely is an Aes Sedai?
Tory (probably Grey ajah, maybe White).
So then it all falls into place. We squeeze a little country/principality somewhere onto the map; normally the ruler there wouldn't merit an Aes Sedai advisor, but after a messy/disputed succession, Siuan did agree to send someone, and that someone was Tory. Billy, of course, is Roslin's son/heir.
Still thinking about where anyone/everyone else might fit, but also this line:
Caprica--In the end, we're not much more than thieves. We stole a damane. We stole an a'dam. ...we stole ourselves.
...so yeah. XD And now opening it up for additional thoughts.

Consort
Author: shadowsong26
Rating: PG-13
Fandom: Star Wars/Heralds of Valdemar crossover
Characters: Anakin, Padme, Obi-Wan
Warnings: Implied sex.
Summary: Padme’s wedding night, in the Jedi of Valdemar AU.
Disclaimer: All characters are the property of their respective creators.
Notes: Written for the Year of the OTP event. May prompt: fantasy/medieval/dark knights of steel AU.
Most of the Jedi of Valdemar AU can be found here on AO3; I’ve also posted some other snippets/worldbuilding notes/etc. on tumblr.
(I am also doing this for BSG and some of my original ‘verses, if you’re interested in checking those out! One ship per canon. The fanfic ones will be posted to AO3 probably a day or two after they’re on tumblr. This fic is also available on AO3 here. Master list of all fills can be found here.)
Padme was a Herald as much as she was Queen, and a Herald always did her duty. And that meant having a legal heir, through a legal marriage to one man--possibly even a stranger, if it was necessary to buy peace on one of her borders.
Or within them.
But, fortunately, there were no likely eligible princes outside of Valdemar; and of the available men who had sided with Dooku during the recent unrest, none of them could be satisfied this way.
None of the ones she’d be willing to trust that close to her, anyway.
Which meant she was free to marry according to her heart--a relief, she knew, to her Council, which had been encouraging her to make any choice for years now.
And it was probably for the best; she thought--she hoped--she could have tolerated marriage to someone other than either of her lifebonded partners, but it would have been. Difficult. To say the very least.
Which was the other problem.
The other Heralds knew, of course, that she and Obi-Wan and Anakin were that rarest of things, a lifebonded triad. But the Heralds were not the only people to whom she was accountable, and while there were a few religious sects in the Kingdom who permitted polygamy, most of Valdemar would not tolerate a bigamist Queen.
So, for today, for the grand spectacle and the ceremony, for the man who would actually hold the title of King or Prince Consort, she had had to choose.
It hadn’t been a difficult choice, really. While both were Heralds and so either could be crowned, neither of her boys especially wanted to be King. But Obi-Wan’s talents ran so strongly in that direction that he would feel obligated to accept the crown as her Co-Consort. Anakin, on the other hand, could get away with the lesser title of Prince Consort, in his own eyes, and in the eyes of the rest of the Circle and the Court. He still might be King someday, if they changed their minds (or if he outlived her), but no one would feel he had to.
But that was for today. That was for her duty, and her people, and the Valdemar she and her partners served.
For tonight…
Tonight there was no glittering ceremony; there was no priest; there was no legal seal.
But there was a vow.
And this, as far as she was concerned, was her true marriage. The three of them, exchanging promises in the dark; the feeling of Obi-Wan’s beard against her cheek he kissed her; Anakin’s breath warm in her ear as, even one-handed, he deftly unlaced the back of her gown.
The gods witnessed them; they witnessed each other; they consummated this marriage together.
Anakin might be her official, legal husband. She might have had to make a choice, for duty’s sake. And she was a Herald as much as she was a Queen, and a Herald always did her duty.
But where it really, truly counted, in her eyes and her mind and her heart, Queen Padme of Valdemar married both of them that day.

Coming Attractions
First Monday of the month, so here we go!
Usual plug for my writing discord here; I’ll hang around for an Open Question Night as well.
Another short one/not a whole lot to say, lol. But still, I’d like to keep in this habit.
PodTogether:
Writing is essentially finished; a couple minor things that might end up changing depending on what my partner/podficcer says, but I am going to No Longer Fuss With It unless I’m told otherwise, because the alternative would be me Continuing to fuss with it until posting which doesn’t work for this challenge :P
There are a couple bits I feel are a little rushed, but overall I’m pretty happy with what I put together. It’s a Nikita/Leverage crossover, and I had fun working on it. It’ll be up...end of this month/beginning of next month, depending on where we end up in the posting schedule.
Star Wars:
Haven’t...really gotten anything done this past month, oh well. Uh, I do hope to actually get back into the swing of things because I genuinely want to continue/get to future arcs in Precipice!verse, but...well, we’ll see.
I’m also continuing to Ponder things I might write for next year’s BB, because I really love participating in it. Might be a crossover (a couple of BSG crossovers are still lurking in the back of my head, lol), might be something that occurs to me over the next few months somehow...I guess you’ll know when I know? XD
BSG:
I have some time off coming up later this month and I’m planning on using that to buckle down and actually get enough going on The Other Battlestar (which still needs a better title; I will take suggestions, lol) to start posting it at the end of this month.
Castlevania:
Incinctus will update sometime this week, I am saying it here and now. The next chapter is almost done, lol. And then Hopefully I’ll update on a semi-regular basis after that...
Original Fic:
I did actually get some done this month! \o/ First time in...lol, nearly a year, based on the dates on RF...but still! Things happened!
...yeah, that was a short one this month. But it’s nice to check in anyway? So...yeah. What are you guys working on? And/or what’s on your mind, in terms of Open Question Night? I’d love to hear from you!

“Love is an incredibly potent force,” the entity said, taking another drag on his cigarette. “Perhaps the most powerful in the universe. And like all powerful things, it can be be used to build or to destroy.” Anakin’s eyes narrowed. “If it’s destructive, it’s not real love.” The entity laughed. “Love is infinite. Vast beyond your comprehension. Claiming that it isn’t real unless it uplifts the people who love and those around them is reductive. And naive. And we both know it is simply not true.”
[...]
“I am walking through the wake of the destruction love can cause. The devastation wrought by my charge and the man who loved her. The man whose face I wear, whose love she used to destroy everything. I am guiding her toward using her love more constructively. To rebuild. To break the cycle.” The cigarette was gone and the entity tilted his head, studying Anakin with those shadowy, fathomless eyes. “I wonder, Scion--what exactly are you doing with yours?”

No proper Coming Attractions this month because a) I didn’t get much of anything done last month so it would basically be a lot of repetition; and b) I forgot and we’re over a week into the month now anyway soooooo...yeah. XD
But a couple bullet point Things!
- The BSG1 crossover AU outline is still in the works; hopefully will be posted here soon because BSG is where my head is living now, almost more than SW or Castlevania which are close seconds.
- Rather than working on my current SWBB as I should be, I’ve been poking at a couple of SW/BSG crossovers which might be workable for next year? -- Option the First: some subset of the Rebels main cast (including, at minimum, Alex and Zeb, but possibly also throwing in other members of the Ghost Crew) ends up on Occupied Caprica for a while. --- This gives us: a) additional people to advise Sam on how to run a resistance movement; b) there’s a Conversation Zeb and Helo could have that’s Interesting; c) Cavil pinging off all of Alex’s ‘There’s Something Up Here’ radars -- Option the Second: Anakin, Ahsoka, and possibly Obi-Wan and/or Padme end up on Kobol while the first landing party is there. --- This gives us: a) some Interesting Stuff with Visions (I have this Bit in my head where it’s like <This Is Not Your War, Scion> and figuring out how to describe Head!Six from Anakin’s POV; and also Baltar maybe getting a flash of Anakin’s future would be cool...); b) someone who can actually Tactics their way out of this situation better than Crashdown -- Option the Third: clones + basestar???? --- This one speaks for itself but I have fewer ideas on where actually to go with it/which basestar and at what point in the timeline/etc. (although if we dive into the first half of s3, that gets some overlap with the Kobol stuff in addition to clones and Cylons...hmmmm...)

Rating: G
Fandom: AtLA, Star Wars
Characters: Padme, Ahsoka, Aang, Sokka, Katara, Toph, Iroh, Zuko, Ty Lee; also featuring brief appearances from Mai and Azula
Warnings: War/canon-typical violence.
Summary: During the latter half of the Clone Wars, Padme and Ahsoka run into some trouble and crash on a strange, uncharted planet. While repairing their ship, they run into a couple of Force-sensitive locals, a melee a trois, and some unexpected new abilities...
Disclaimer: All characters are the property of their respective creators.
Notes: This was written for pod_together 2021, which was a whole lot of fun! I had a great time working with my partner/reader on this project, both in the brainstorming stage and then in the editing/recording stage. Akaihyou did an awesome job with the podfic and you should definitely listen to it!
(I also definitely have further headcanons for this crossover, which I may or may not return to at some point, depending on how much time/brain other projects take up!)
Find it here (both text and podfic) on Ao3!
