Kat, you knew I was gonna put an ITSAY track on here to further entice you, right? The OSTs for both ITSAY and IPYTM are amazing and I listen to them constantly. Skyline is the theme of the first series, and there are several versions of it used throughout the show in both Thai and Mandarin. Red Balloon - 框不住的愛, Evangeline

Red Balloon is the lesser known Taiwanese bl predecessor to Your Name Engraved Herein (it even has the same lead actor). It's a gorgeous story of impossible first love, and it has a soundtrack of beautiful melancholy tracks like the above.

Love Sick - ผ่าน, Gunsmile Chanagan

Love Sick has a banger soundtrack. Most people remember Shake by the legendary Boy Sompob, but I have always been partial to this track (and I was today years old when I realized Gunsmile is the singer, @bengiyo did you know this!!).

The Eighth Sense - Who, Wetter

You didn't think we were getting out of here without me mentioning Wetter, did you? I love all their tracks on t8s soundtrack, but this is the one that played in the first episode and made me sit up and say what is this? I immediately ran to the internet and found all their stuff.

BL Actors Who Just...Cry So Well

Now disclaimer for this: I wouldn't say I cry easily, whether the situation in the show is intense or not doesn't really matter, for me it depends on the actors in the scene, and some are just REALLY good at crying. (Or I guess, really making me believe it.) These are actors that could be filming a scene where their toaster isn't working and I WILL cry if they do, just because the certain nuances they add to a crying scene take me out.

This is totally subjective for me, so if your fave isn't here it's not that they're bad actors by any means, they just didn't pass my personal 'emotional-vibe-check'. Or maybe I haven't seen them in anything before!!

No.1 EARTH Katsamonnat ( Cooheart)

Earth has cried in every show I've seen him in. Which means I have cried during every show I've seen him in. 11/10 performance every single time. If he has any lines when he's crying, you can tell from his voice that it's genuine. That choked up sound where your throat feels tight and it's kind of hard to get out what you're saying? He's got it down pat. As soon as it starts looking like he's in a situation that could lead to tears, I'm grabbing a tissue because I know I'm about to be a mess too.

No.2 NANON Korapat

It's the way I suddenly become an empath when this man acts. Like a lot of the people on this list, Nanon acts really well with his eyes. He gets this really sparkly sheen over them in scenes, sometimes even when they're not sad scenes, it's like the lighting is set up specifically to catch on his eyes everytime. Crazy. And let me tell you, as soon as his eyes get glassy mine do too. Then the rest of his face follows suit and it's just downhill from there. 10/10 rec watching episode 5 of bad buddy if you need to make sure your own tear ducts are in working order.

NUNEW Chawarin

I couldn't believe it when I found out Cutie Pie was his first time acting. How?

I was a wreck at the end of episode two during the car scene. I don't know how the driver managed to circle the block so effortlessly because if that was me overhearing him cry I'd have to pull over. The thing about NuNews acting that gets me when he cries, is similar to Earth. It's all in the voice. This really got me again later when he's on the phone to his mother and he pulls it away to get his bearings before he speaks again, not wanting to sound like he's crying. It's done so well and so believably I want to cut the cameras and make sure he's okay, damn.

PP Krit

Listen. Is it his acting or is it just the body's natural response when looking at this man?

In all seriousness, anyone who's been watching BL for a while has seen ITSAY. Take a shot every time one of the leads cries. I dare you. In saying that, I think Billkin probably cries more throughout the show, and he's an incredible actor too, but I wasn't using my sweater sleeves to dry my eyes until PP had his moments. There's just something about him,, he looks so small. Like I just want to wrap him in a blanket and set fire to anyone who's hurt him.

I haven't watched I Promised You The Moon yet, because I got spoiled. And I know from those spoilers Oh-Aew probably cries a lot and I'm not physically ready to lose that much moisture from my body, so.

SANTA Pongsapak

Santa is my most recent addition. Like Nanon he's also really good at acting with his eyes, especially when he's happy or enamoured. When he's filming sad scenes I wouldn't say he's as quick to tears as some actors/characters but you can see it in his whole body how he's holding them back. He also does this thing where he wipes tears away really casually, most times when characters do this it's like a full moisturizing routine with how they do it, or they rub really hard at their eyes, all of which is fine, but for me personally the way Santa does it in a more casual way like he's trying to shake off the feelings is something i personally relate to. I'm really looking forward to more shows from him

Special Mention: GUN Atthaphan

Obviously Gun is 10/10, he's a special mention because he's ofc an amazing actor and originally I did cry every time he did l,, but Theory Of Love broke me and I'm fine watching him cry now 💗

Step By Step, ep 1-6

I have caught up on the aired episodes and have compiled some thoughts below the cut. Couples first, then some general show notes.

Sp*ilers ahoy!

Jaab/Jen

Jen kissing Jaab, when he seemingly has a boyfriend: Is this him giving in to pure physical attraction? Mistaking close friendship (influenced by the flattery of that friend pursuing him) for more? Is something wrong in Jen’s relationship with Mon and that’s why he kissed Jaab? (This is my preferred explanation, because I love angst and there is a lot of excellent drama potential there. However, considering they are a side couple, I think they won’t be going the evil!Mon route.)

I do think there is more to Jen’s story. I’ll be very surprised if they’re doing a straightforward cheating storyline with Jaab and Jen.

Apart from that: dang do those two have intimate chemistry. The kiss was intense. And the symbolism of ‘crossing the line’ between the two beds in order to kiss was perfect. (It also explains why the beds were so close to begin with. I’ve never once seen hotel beds placed so closely together, which I found amusing until Jaab made his move.)

Put/Pat

Up until episode 6, I half thought that maybe Put had history with Jeng too. Jeng’s interactions with Put seemed very comfortable and familiar, so it seemed like an actual triangle might be building. But it seems like that’s not the case. Too bad, because it would have been a lot better than a pining/jealous Put. In that vein, I need some ex-lovers to show up for Jeng, because he’s losing to Pat 2:0 so far. (That’s assuming Kong is an ex. Pat’s reaction to his IG posts made me think he was, and if he is it makes what Kong did even worse and might also explain why he went so far.)

I like what they’ve done with Put and Pat’s relationship so far. I like how the reveal of their history developed, and that Put isn’t actually a stalker. He’s just pining and regretful. At this point in the show, I definitely see them dating for awhile until they both realize they are trying to go back to what they had. (And also, Pat is half in love with Jeng.) It would also give Jeng the push to pursue Pat. In fact, I really hope that is the direction the rest of the season takes because I can see how it all shakes out over the next couple episodes and it would be great.

Jeng/Pat

The slowest of slow burns. I think we’ll get one kiss (and maybe an overnight) before one of them decides they can’t date while Jeng is Pat’s boss. The office-related plot (with its emphasis on appropriate workplace behavior) has been too prevalent so far for me to believe that either of them would be okay with a boss/subordinate romantic relationship. Pining/in love, yes. Actually going through with it and still working together as they are, no.

Also, I don’t mind age gaps, but Jeng looks old enough to be the CEO rather than the CEO’s son (even in scenes with his father). It throws me off a bit. He needs to smile more because when he does, he looks much younger. Perhaps that will be part of his continued character growth; learning to loosen up in general.

I am impressed with what they’ve done with Jeng so far. I don’t think I’ve seen an office drama with a character like him working on improving himself in this way. It’s nice to see and I like him more and more every episode.

Chot/Krit

10/10, no notes. Just kidding. I LOVE THEM. Bruce is the reason I started watching this show while it’s still airing and I was not disappointed. Chot is an absolute delight. And I know what Krit said about the words being enough, but I do think Chot would love a little beach ceremony, just saying.

Ae/Kunan, Beam

They are great side characters, but I did not expect a pining best friend. Not thrilled about that. Two love triangles in one show is two too many.

Selections From the TV Journal

Some of the ost music+scene pairings are jarring and odd. Music should either ‘disappear’ into the background or emphasize a significant moment. The viewer shouldn’t be distracted by song choice. Also, some of it sounded like tv commercial music.

I almost quit after episode 2. Too close to home. Also, who doesn’t use templates in PowerPoint? That’s like the first easy shortcut you learn.

Loved the product placement meta joke in episode 3.

I am past being over all of the office gossip happening out in the open where anyone could overhear. I do not like Ying.

Did those two kids really put up a fake out of order sign on the showers so it’d be free for them to fool around?! Hilarious.

I really like Nan. She’s such a good work friend/mentor for Pat.

The BL industry call out was so pointed and well done, even as frustrating as it was to watch in-show. I felt for Pat and Chot in that scene.

I want to know more about Chot and Krit. Why aren’t they the main side couple? I cannot help being suspicious about the little side pairing montage in episode 5. I’m hoping it was just a straightforward ‘catch up’ deal rather than foreshadowing.

Big sighting, yay. Someone give him a lead role.

The IKEA ‘date’ was cute.

I’m glad that I stuck with the show. I’m enjoying it a lot and am looking forward to seeing what happens next.

Yesterday was a tough day, a customer got drunk and Soyoung the manager during that shift couldn't even handle it and the responsibility was passed on to me to deal with it because I am the strong and blunt one at work. But as much as I can handle it, it triggered the fuck out of me. It reminded me of what happened years ago when a customer tried to grab my boobs and no one tried to protect me. The only reason they sprung into action was when I told them I am quitting and filling a case against him. Strangely enough that even was the start of it all. It was the week before the big accident that change the fucking course of my life and why it's so hard for me to want to be alive.

I was shaking after it was all handled and I just wanted to ball up somewhere and cry. I hate not feeling safe.

That was tough, this week has been tough. My mental health is not at its best. I am still recovering from the setback of Na'Synne telling me that Krit's going to call. I noticed myself just sleeping a lot again and not having the motivation to do anything It sucks, it fuckings sucks. All that work and now I have a fucking setback. On top of that my parents and Nicole's feud is giving me anxiety. Ugh. I can't wait to have my own place and just have a reset about everything.

I want to expound on why the conversation with Pat’s dad is so awful even though it may seem innocuous. The fact that he drops by without warning is the start of it. Then his first go-to is to imply that Pat was masturbating (weak) and he should go play some sports instead (strong). He criticises his taste, lets him know that he’s being watched and reported on (the hint of panic when Pat asks if the professor is his friend…because the professor knows he’s getting along with Pran). Gives him the subtle ‘don’t embarrass me, you reflect on me, you have to be like me’. Then starts in with the suspicion (you’re hiding something and I’m gonna sniff it out) and immediately pivots to talking about Pran and slagging him off, the subtle reminder that They Are Not Our People. Don’t think he doesn’t notice Pat’s defence of Pran, even though he doesn’t comment on it. Then he ends by reinforcing his expectations of masculinity on him (hur hur I’m sure you’re getting a bunch of girls up in here, amirite?).

What sells it for me is Pat’s reactions…he’s already a bit panicked because Pran’s there and could be discovered, but there’s something about the way he responds to his dad’s 'jokes’…it’s respectfully halfhearted, or he tries to change the topic, or he cracks a joke back that isn’t really a joke (I don’t feel pressured at all). Basically, Pat knows his dad has a lot of expectations of him, of him being and behaving a certain way and in his heart he knows that he’s not the person his dad is expecting him to be, as hard as he tries to look like it on the outside, and what’s more he’s pretty sure his dad knows it, so he tries harder to act the part.

Can't stop watching the fight scene, so maybe another analysis will get it out of my head. Because every time I watch it, it takes on a new dimension...

Like how Pat's mood shifts the minute he sees Wai. He literally shakes his head when he sees him, like 'no, he's gotta go'...

Like how Wai hears menace in Pat's 'come here' where Pat meant only softness...

Like how Pran sees that Pat is sad and upset, so he does actually start to go to him with that 'come here' but Wai misinterprets everything and Pran starts to panic...

Like how Pran starts the conversation by putting on this tough performance for Wai's benefit. We've been shown since episode 3 that Pat doesn't like how Pran talks to him in public or when other people are around, that he's very sensitive to that. He is always telling Pran 'look nobody's here, you can talk to me nicely'. And here Pran's first words are to curse at him...because his stupid friend is there...

Like how Pran notices that Pat REALLY doesn't like that, his silent stare is very clear, and Pran realises he's gonna need to take a different approach...

Like how Pat makes that bitter comment about the song being 'lousy' and Pran understands that he REALLY didn't like that he played the song, but he doesn't understand why. Pran is really panicking now because Pat is very clearly big time Upset and he doesn't have a clue what's going to come out of his mouth next and Wai is right there...

Like how Pran then thinks Pat came to fight when it was the absolute last thing on his mind. Pran thinks Pat is angry and doesn't realise that he's jealous. It's not even so much the fact that Wai is there, it's the fact that Pran is choosing Wai's feelings over his...

Like how at the end, after Wai has left and Pran has walked away, Pat just sits there shaken by the violence of his own feelings. This absolutely wasn't how he meant for this to go but he just couldn't help himself, couldn't stop himself...

the wind felt heavy against your body, feeling more violent than usual. why? he was dead right? choked out sobs come out from the silhouette youre holding. your hands automatically grip around his shoulders, trying to refrain yourself from breaking down, your misty tears threatening to fall at any moment.

“i…im s-sor-sorry.” the brunette cries harder, his glasses getting fogged up by the moment as he grips onto your forearms, looking away from the figure. his shoulders shake in his attempt to quiet down himself, which makes you bring him in closer, arms protectively gripping around his body. you hush the boy while staring at him. the one you saw pass away. the one you and krit cried over as the life from his eyes slipped away, the one who cried for you to end it all.

“jack.” you finally breathed out which results the figure to jolt, his expression goes from confusion to fear to regret and everything in between. you try to open your mouth once more, just to say anything, to see if hes real but nothing comes out. your eyes widen when jack shifts his foot back, his hands rolling into a fist while he keeps taking steps back. krit jumps from your arms, walking towards the other in a quick pace in which you follow with no hesitation. krit reaches out an arm, just one small graze, please.

that’s all i need. to make sure hes real. safe.

“i miss you.” krit choked out, new fresh tears rolling down his face, jack flinches and comes to a complete stop which makes krit reach both arms out wrapping jack in a tight embrace letting all the crying comes out. your eyes finally start to water from the scene.

jack stares in shock, eyes shifting from you to krit for a while. his breath hitching and arms seemingly wanting to touch his lovers but he freezes. his face crumbles in result, starting another waterfall. the two of them slide down on the floor, becoming a sobbing mess so you walk over with a small smile, eyebrows dipping and drowning yourself in bittersweet feelings. krit reaches up and tugs you down along them, you comply and wrap your arms around the two of them, missing this warmth.

“please, just hold me.” jack sobs out, and he didnt even need to say any of the sort. you’ll both hold him forever, never letting him go again.

Wei watches Until We Meet Again Ep 16

Today’s flashback starts with a birth. Kard Trivinij is the father. I think this is Pharm’s birth. And I guessed right! Wow, Pharm’s dad was cute. He inherited some good genes. I can also see why Pharm is reminded of his dad by Dean at times. There’s a gentleness in his aura, but Pharm’s the only one who gets that gentle aura from Dean!

We next see Pharm meeting his uncle Krit with Sin. Sin asks his dad how long he’ll stare at Pharm and Krit says he hasn’t seen Pharm for ten years, so he wants to look for a while. Krit says Pharm looks like his mom and nothing like Kard. That’s a complement, Pharm’s mom is also very pretty. Krit says he thinks they should get to know each other before seeing the grandfather. 

Krit then admits that the last time he saw Pharm was for his father’s funeral. Pharm is surprised that Krit went. Krit says of course since Kard was his brother. Even his grandfather had went, but Pharm was off doing something else so he didn’t see them. Pharm says he’s glad to hear they came as his mom doesn’t often talk about his dad’s side of the family. Krit says he’s not surprised as Pharm’s father hated the grandfather, too stubborn and full of pride. Kard had even changed his name to Pharm’s mother’s name to get away. Pharm asks why his dad hated grandfather so much, and Krit says grandfather caused Kard to lose the person he respected the most.

Pharm then says that his mom told him about Krit and that he named him. Krit is surprised and asks what he means. Pharm says his name means strength and that his brother’s name, Phoom, means land. Krit looks confused before remembering that he came up with the name for Phoom, but another uncle chose Pharm. 

Sin sits up and asks if there is a third brother, and Krit says that he does have one. Sin asks why he’s never mentioned it before and they should have met him. Krit admits the brother has already passed away at a young age. Krit then says he doesn’t have any brothers left and the mood drops. After a moment of silence, Krit tells everyone to start eating the lunch in front of them, but he remains pensive. 

Krit then remembers a scene with him, Korn, and Kard. Korn stares at a candy or a toy and Krit asks what it is. Korn says it’s a candy and Kard asks if he’s going to eat it or if he can have it. Kard calls him stingy and Krit calls Kard a glutton. Korn tells them he got the candy from his special person, Kard asks who it is but Korn refuses to say. Krit asks if he has a secret and Korn just shakes his head. Korn then demands to know how their homework is going and Kard says he doesn’t want to do it because he has to find out what their names mean. He’s embarrassed because all their names start the same. (This is a pretty Asian thing to do IMO.) 

Krit comes up and says that he thinks it’s good that all their names start the same as it immediately shows they’re related and brothers. Kard still complains and promises his child’s name won’t start with a K. Krit tells him he’ll name his kid and Kard continues to object. Korn suggests the name Pharm and says that since Pharm means strength, he hopes that Kard’s son will have the strength to overcome obstacles. Krit objects to Korn picking the name and tells Kard to have two sons so he can name the other one. He chooses Phoom because it starts with P and they sound alike. Kard complains and promises not to use the two names and his brothers ask why not. They tickle him until he agrees to use the names. (It’s so nice to see a sweet moment between the three brothers. We don’t get enough of that from the past scenes.)

Another flashback to Pharm’s birth and his grandfather lurks outside the door. He walks away and Krit asks why he won’t go in. Grandpa is upset that Kard didn’t even use his surname. Krit chastises him, but his father says he doesn’t think Kard wants to see him. He asks Krit to give a gift to Pharm and say it’s from Krit instead of him. Krit tells him that Korn chose the name Pharm and tells him the story of how they chose the name. Grandpa gets sad and nods, but walks away anyway. 

In the next scene, the group are driving to see Pharm’s grandfather and Krit seems to be remembering alot and getting emotional. Dean texts Pharm to ask where he is and Pharm replies that they’re on the way to Sin’s house. Dean promises to be there soon. Sin announces that they’ve arrived and Krit tells Sin to take Pharm in first. Krit stands outside, still thinking, remembering, and staring dramatically into the middle distance.

As they walk in, Sin tells Pharm that grandpa usually stays in the back of the house. Sin says that grandpa is probably sleeping now and that Pharm can go take a look around. Sin also directs Pharm to grandpa’s study and tells him he can go read there if he wants. Sin gets a call and promises to be right back after answering it and leaves Pharm to his own devices. 

Pharm decides to walk around, slowly looking at everything in the house. Dean’s dog tag is front and center as an accessory that Pharm is wearing. Pharm walks deeper into the house and Krit finally walks in asking for him. Sin says that Pharm is downstairs and then asks Krit what was his older brother’s name. Krit asks why he’s asking and Sin is curious. He wants to know if the theme of starting names of all the kids with the same syllable was kept in his dad’s generation. Krit calls Sin relentless and then tells him that his brother’s name was Korn. 

Sin then remembers his talk with Dean and asks what the cause of Korn’s death was. Krit asks again why Sin wants to know and Sin replies that Korn committed suicide before asking why his father tried to hide that. Sin remembers his attempts to get info from the police station and remembers that information about Korn was forbidden, even his name. However, at that time, Sin was watched by his father. Krit says he’s not trying to hide anything, but he’s trying to find out where he found those names he’s asking about. 

Krit tells Sin that he wants Sin and Sorn to be happy and they don’t have to worry about this issue, but he eventually explains that Korn and Intouch were lovers like Sin and Sorn. Krit then explains that Korn and Intouch committed suicide because of the grandfather. Krit says he doesn’t want Sin to hate his grandfather and Sin asks how he can hate him. I guess because grandpa has never done anything wrong to him. 

Pharm goes deeper and deeper into the house, looking at the books and things in a dark room. He picks a book and looks at the title. As  he flips through it, he finds a pressed flower. Oh no... was this Korn’s book? It was! Pharm finds Korn’s name written in it and has a flash of memory of In bothering Korn while he was reading it. Pharm says Korn’s name out loud and pulls the book a bit closer to look at the name written. He remembers more about the day In bothered Korn while he was reading the book before he puts it back and finds a tin on the shelf. As he pulls it out, another book falls. Pharm sits on the floor to look through the book that fell and you can see him getting more emotional. It’s a photo album with pictures of Korn!

As Pharm looks through the photos, he remembers more scenes with Korn and In. Pharm starts to breathe faster and a little heavier as he turns to the tin he had originally pulled off the shelf. He opens it to find photos and trinkets of Korn and In, including an old photo of them together. More and more memories come up in Pharm’s mind. Pharm starts crying in earnest for Korn, holding the photo to his chest as he cries. Pharm then starts to look through the other things and find the gun that Korn and In committed suicide with. WHY IS THAT IN THE BOX? HAVEN’T YOU JERKS HEARD OF PROPER GUN SAFETY AND SECURING OF LIVE FIREARMS? WHO DECIDED TO GIVE PHARM A GUN? WHY WOULD YOU GIVE HIM A GUN?

Pharm then remembers the suicide of Korn and In as he holds the gun which causes more crying. PHARM PUT THE GUN DOWN. IT IS NOT FOR YOU AND YOU SHOULD NOT HOLD IT. IT’S BAD JUJU. Pharm reaches into the tin and also finds the apartment key with the keychain In made. Pharm takes the key and the gun and walks off. NO. DO NOT. PHARM COME BACK. STOP.

The next scene is the grandfather being brought in on a wheelchair. He’s on the phone with someone talking about Korn and In and he promises to take care of it and thanks Antika (NOOO WHY ARE YOU TALKING TO HIM AN?). He thanks her and hangs up before asking to be alone so his caretaker leaves. Grandpa then notices the things that Pharm had left on the ground and Krit and Sin run over to ask if he met Pharm yet. Sin promises to go look for Pharm and Krit helps his father pick up Korn’s picture. Sin runs back and says Pharm left with a gun. Grandpa says he knows where Pharm is going and carefully folds the picture of Korn and In before putting it in his pocket. 

Dean gets a call as he’s driving and Sin asks where he is. Dean says he’s going to Sin’s house and Sin tells him Pharm has run off. Sin then explains that he thinks Pharm saw something in a box and asks if Dean remembers what he asked him to look up. Dean says he asked Sin to look up Korn and Intouch. Sin tells him that Korn is Sin’s uncle which means he’s Pharm’s uncle too. Dean grits his teeth and hangs up on Sin and Dean calls Pharm. Dean tries to figure out where Pharm is and Pharm tells him he’s at “their place” and that Dean knows where it is. Pharm hangs up on Dean and Dean struggles to think about what Pharm means before it hits him, the apartment Korn and In picked. 

The next scene is a memory of Korn and In picking the condo. In says his dad thinks buying a condo is silly because you don’t actually own the land and Korn says his dad feels the same. The two decide this is good for them, and go in to take a look.

In the present, Pharm continues walking with the gun and key to the apartment. So in Thailand, they just let sad dramatic boys take walks in the rain with a gun? Like they don’t even try to stop you? Pharm remembers In’s time in the rain with Korn before their suicides and stops for a moment before continuing on. 

Pharm enters the building and goes to the apartment, finding it has a sign that says no entry without permission. Pharm touches the door, remembering the last time Korn and In were there before he unlocks it and enters. Pharm looks around at all the old things that are still there. The memories keep coming as Pharm sits down on the couch left there and at last, Pharm cries. At last, Pharm’s hand moves away from the gun, but he starts to rock himself back and forth. 

Dean finally shows up to comfort him and Dean pulls Pharm away from the couch. Dean tells him they should go back to their home and Pharm calls him a liar before reaching for the gun and asking what Dean will do if he leaves him first, holding the gun to his chin. I guess this is the start of the KornIn possession resolution thing. 

The preview is sad with Dean cutting a red thread and saying that they don’t have to love each other anymore. Next week looks like it’s going to be some more pain, but as I have heard from people who read the novel, it’s important for the DeanPharm relationship. Pharm needs to know his feelings aren’t because of In’s feelings and I guess this is how they’re going to do it.
